last update2024-11-25 22:31:06

At the Braspolis police station, Karl tries to help Mark's situation by providing a strong testimony.

“How did you meet Mark Ferro, Mr. Carvalho?”

Karl answered promptly, “I met him at a party held at the Braz Social Club. A little gathering to reconnect with our old college classmates.”

Ribeiro was taken aback. “Really? That party didn’t have something to do with the arrest of two guests after quite a commotion occurred, with gang members trying to assault the female guests, did it?”

Karl clicked his fingers. “THAT! It was at that party! Fernanda Gabas, a perpetual jealous of Briana, orchestrated that scandal, trying to ruin everything and then blaming it on her. She was arrested along with her boyfriend, who claimed to have connections to the underworld.”

Ribeiro pursed his lips. “I was involved in that arrest. Small world.”

“Not the world, Braspolis,” Karl quipped. “Well, I met Briana’s husband at that party. I remember several people accusing Mark of having called the gang

Mark asked Joana for a lawyer, leaving her stunned. Mark, with all his power, could turn the police station and the entire corporation upside down if he wanted to. But since he decided to maintain his disguise, he needed to act like an ordinary citizen. However, he would not settle for a mediocre option. He would have the best lawyers available. Joana cleared her throat. “Ahem... Manager Ferro, I may not be impartial, but my cousin Theodore Damascene is an excellent lawyer, the son of my late uncle.” “Isn’t he the current owner of the whole firm?” Mark asked with a smile. Joana, however, misunderstood his smile. “I mean, of course, we can offer you a cheaper lawyer.” Mark gestured. “That won’t be necessary, Joana. Well, do you know why I'm asking you this?” Joana nodded. “Yesterday, a sergeant with a comedian vibe showed up at Glamour looking for you. I read a rather uninformative article in LCN accusing you of having cut the brakes on the car belonging to Manager Vasconcelos’

“KATRINA!” Briana jumped up as if she felt thumbtacks on her chair. Katrina smiled devilishly as she entered Briana and Luana’s office. She slammed the door shut, in a sinister and frightening manner. Luana shoved her hand into her blazer pocket, prepared to push her phone if necessary. She asked, “What do you think you’re doing here? Do you and your husband really think you can come into this company and cause chaos—” “IS THIS A COMPANY?” Katrina rudely interrupted Luana. “It doesn’t seem like one to me. Here looks like a vile den of debauchery, according to Celia Soares.” Briana narrowed her eyes. “What do you have to do with that shameless hussy?” Katrina feigned surprise. “Oops! Did I accidentally reveal a secret about your husband?” “Mark has nothing to do with Celia anymore, thank goodness!” Briana shouted. Katrina was amused. “Celia is now an assistant at Vasconcelos Company, along with Adrian Curtis. It seems fate brought them back together. And they are both very emp

Regis stepped outside first to find out who was honking so obnoxiously. Fortunately, they didn’t live in a crowded neighborhood, or the neighbors would know that someone was visiting Mark in a flashy manner. As he approached the car, Regis felt an electric current run through his body. “Are you... James Ross?” “How does the butler know me if this is the first time I’ve set foot here?” James got out of the car with a mocking expression. “I recognized you from the newspapers and articles showing you leaving the Red Light nightclub,” Regis replied defiantly. James’s arrogant smile faded. “Well, the butler knows how to talk tough! I’m going to recommend to Mark that he fires you, you know-it-all!” “You didn’t come here to talk to my boss about domestic matters,” Regis interjected, blocking the path with gravel. “No, I came to talk to him about my brother-in-law’s attempted murder.” “Seems like you care a lot about your brother-in-law’s life, huh?” Regis raised one eyebrow. James couldn’t believe it.First, he took a huge kick to the stomach from Mark, leaving him sore for a day. Now, his butler had him pinned against the hood of the car, wrenching his left arm behind his back as if he wanted to break it!Can’t anyone have a civil conversation around here?“Let me go, you crazy butler! If you don’t, I’ll send the police after you instead of your boss!”“You have no grounds to imprison my boss!” Regis grumbled through clenched teeth. “I suggest you get out of here and never come back! Only Sandro Vasconcelos is allowed to step foot here!”“This is absurd!” James roared, feeling the pain intensify…Regis released his arm, just short of breaking it. James, in a panic, grasped his arm wide-eyed and gasping. This feels like a nightmare!“Get in that car and go! My boss doesn’t have time to talk to insignificant people like you! Let alone tamper with the brakes of someone not worth five cents!”“The butler really is a tough guy with sharp words, huh?” James sh

Mark felt it wasn’t the time to relax and celebrate victory regarding the parking lot video. He and Vargas sat in red upholstered chairs to talk and plan. “Lord Ferro, tell me more about what you think.”“Here’s the thing, Vargas: just as Christopher has been insisting on accusing me of tampering with his family’s car brakes, James has started accusing me of being a criminal with my wife... in our intimate moments.”Vargas widened his eyes, horrified. “WOW! How can this guy have such a twisted mind?”“That’s why I started to suspect. Where did this crazy idea come from?” Mark frowned. “Then I remembered the video Adrian tried to show at that party. Anyone who watches that video without knowing what Anthony Curtis did to Briana is going to think I took advantage of her that day.”“So, James Ross saw the video too?” Vargas asked, perplexed.“It must have been that. It would explain why Adrian quit Glamour and found another job so quickly, precisely at Vasconcelos Company.”“And now your

Briana was determined to defend her and Mark’s names at any cost. “James, I need you to listen to me and understand.” She pleaded. “Mark and I are not responsible for everything that’s happening in our family.”Upon realizing that Briana would not admit to loving James, he felt disappointed. Breaking his inflated smile, he retorted, “Briana, you came here just to talk about that?”“What do you mean, JUST to talk about that?” Briana frowned. “We NEED to talk about it! James, if you really love me, you wouldn’t believe such a slander.”“Hey! Don’t come at me with those arguments!” James extended his index finger. “Don’t talk like you care about my feelings for you. That would be very vile of you, Briana, and it would prove that my wife was right about you.”Briana felt outraged by James’s reaction. “You’re acting like a teenager who has a crush on a high school beauty; still, you have the nerve to say ‘my wife’ as if it meant something to you.”James shook his head. “This is what I need

Vargas smiled in understanding. “Yes, Lord Ferro. I have one or two assistants who know a bit about computing.”“Great. Make sure someone snoops around James’s computer to see if he has a copy of the parking lot video. I imagine he came here to talk about it, but Regis didn’t even let him past the front yard.”“What a condescending guy. How do people like that get high corporate positions?” Vargas expressed internal indignation.“By lying and deceiving the unwary,” Mark replied. “If Gilson Vasconcelos knew the truth about his son-in-law, he wouldn’t have supported the marriage.”“It seems to me that Gilson is also someone who lies and deceives,” Vargas said as he stood up. “Lord Ferro, I’ll be leaving now.”“Keep up the good work, Vargas,” Mark bade him farewell. When Mark asked if the assistants Vargas had planted at Vasconcelos knew anything about computers, he wasn’t asking if they could perform basic tasks like typing a letter or creating a financial spreadsheet. He wanted to know

Ray had deliberately saved the contact under that name, knowing that if anyone else happened to glimpse his screen, they wouldn’t read “LORD Ferro.” Better to be safe than scandalized. He answered coolly. “Hello?”Mark dragged out a chair and sat, phone pressed to his ear.“Hello,” he said smoothly. “How’s it going? Have they slandered you yet?”On the other end, Ray chuckled. “Nah. Outside the Glamour Studios in the soft haze of late afternoon, Karl wandered through the active set of Times of Glory. Just ahead, a medieval-themed scene was in full swing.Actors, dressed as villagers and warriors of a bygone age, performed fluently without cue cards, their lines clearly memorized and rehearsed. Camera operators moved with precision, capturing the best angles while the head writer monitored the script closely, making sure every detail aligned with the original plan.Nearby, the makeup artists took a brief pause from their usual duties to admire the view — specifically, one of the actors clad in an open leather vest that showcased a chiseled, lightly hairy chest. Another actor, dressed as a warrior, gripped a faux sword that looked startlingly real at first glance.Celia arrived on set, walking quietly to avoid disrupting the scene. She knew the rules — any interruption would get her thrown off the set by the director, and Karl wouldn’t hesitate to report her to Bri
