Briana was working hard in her office, typing on her computer and finalizing a collaboration proposal for the LCN Group.

Gene opened her office door and informed her, "Miss Vasconcelos, we have good news! It seems like we have more time for you to present the project!"

"What do you mean?" Briana raised her eyes from the monitor and looked at Gene, very surprised.

"There was a setback with the project manager. It seems like the group president is cleaning the house, getting rid of the rotten apples," Gene commented.

Gene knew this because Mark had informed him beforehand.

With the sudden dismissal of Frank Ross, Mark didn't want his wife to stress about finishing the project, so he arranged for her to be informed.

Briana allowed herself to relax and roll her tense shoulders, "Phew! Thank goodness. I can finish this more calmly and go by there tomorrow."

"It seems like luck is on our side!" Gene winked and then left.

“You have a point, Lord Ferro,” Ribeiro conceded, though his hand hovered instinctively over his notebook, the habits of a by-the-book officer dying hard. “But I still need to maintain proper protocol for the station records.”Mark’s lips curled into a cynical smirk. “Just write that the imbecile attacked me, and I acted in legitimate self-defense.”“And when exactly will this hypothetical defense take place?”“I’m willing to bet my chips it happens at Christopher and Elara's engagement party.”Ribeiro’s jaw went slack, his eyes widening in disbelief. “But... the party is happening at your house!”“If you are worrying about Briana and my son, don't,” Mark said, leaning in close. He lowered his voice to a conspiratorial whisper, breathing the intricate details of his security measures directly into the sergeant’s ear, ensuring only Ribeiro could hear the trap being set.Nearby, Mary Ellen was in the middle of gathering witness statements when she spotted the hushed conference. Her nose

Briana rested against the plush pillows of her hospital bed, the exhaustion of childbirth slowly ebbing away into a comfortable, hazy fatigue. The door clicked open, and Vargas stepped inside. He was dressed in his doctor’s scrubs, but the professional mask he usually wore had slipped. His shoulders were tight, his jaw set.Briana knew that look. It wasn't a medical update."Okay," she said, her voice cutting through the quiet room. "Spit it out."Vargas hesitated, shifting his weight. "Lady Ferro, I truly wish I didn't have to be the bearer of bad news."Briana gripped the bedsheet. "But you have to tell me what happened, right? Drakov struck again?""Everything points to him."Her breath hitched, and her throat tightened, making her voice thick with sudden emotion. "Is my son... is he never going to meet his father?"Vargas moved quickly to the bedside, his posture shifting from stiff to solicitous. "Don't say that, Lady Ferro! Lord Ferro survived the attempt. In fact, it didn't loo

Paramedics moved quickly through the shattered storefront, guiding dazed customers to safety.A few limped toward waiting ambulances, glass still glittering in their hair.Mary Ellen stood on the sidewalk, arms crossed, eyes sharp. She had already abandoned any thought of interviewing Celia today. When she spotted Mark stepping through the broken doorway, she knew exactly where her focus belonged.Mark met her gaze and raised an eyebrow. “I thought you were on your way out.”Mary Ellen jerked her thumb toward the street. “I was. Swear to God. The explosion went off right behind me. All I saw in the rearview was smoke and fire.”Mark dusted glass from his sleeve. “Good. Then you can head to the hospital. Or back to Vasconcelos.”Mary Ellen shook her head. “Not a chance. João’s on his way.”Jake and several stunned customers exchanged puzzled glances. To them, the arriving officer was

She forced a tight smile. “Come back later. Can’t you see we’re still packing? Or did you just come to gloat?”Celia set the box down gently. “Mrs. Vasconcelos, I’ve explained multiple times. I never set out to sabotage anyone.”Claudia’s eyes flashed. “But you got all the credit!”“That was the director’s decision. And your son’s.”Katrina’s voice cracked with disbelief. “Celia, I thought we were friends.”Celia met her gaze without heat. “I thought so too, until I realized you only kept me around to help you destroy Briana. Something that was never going to happen.”Katrina’s lips curled into a venomous smile. “Don’t say that. You think this is over? After a nice long vacation, I’ll come back stronger than ever.”Celia exhaled slowly. “Don’t start. I don’t want to hear it.”Katrina leaned closer, eyes glittering. “There was a time you hated Briana just as much as I do.”Celia’s voice stayed level. “You clearly didn’t hear what I said last time. Mark sipped his cappuccino, letting the foam linger on his lip. “I gave her strict instructions. She promised to keep it clean.”Jake gave a bitter laugh. “After you said that, sure.”“No. She brought it up first, though I think she was mocking Celia when she did.”Jake rubbed the back of his neck. “Don’t trust her completely, Mark. God, it feels like Celia will never get a break.”Mark set the cup down. His tone softened, almost matchmaking. “It bothers you. A lot.”Jake exhaled, defeated. “Fine. You win. I still care about her. But I couldn’t keep dating someone who was dead-set on sleeping her way up the Vasconcelos ladder just for a promotion.”Mark’s expression didn’t change, but his voice carried quiet promise. “No man deserves that. And if you found out she built everything she has now without selling herself... would that change anything for you?”Jake’s eyes glistened. “It would.”Mark gave a small nod which translated: leave it to me, then lifted the cup again. Before the co

What’s wrong?”Mark crouched slightly, studying the seam where the hood met the body. “I’ve got a bad feeling someone’s been messing with my car.”Regis let out a dry laugh. “The guy didn’t even bother hiding it, huh?”“Easy,” Mark murmured. “Could be nothing. Or it could be everything.”He knew Drakov had the resources to pull something like this — send someone to tamper with the vehicle while he was upstairs talking.
