Switch on the TV

Ring! Ring!

A call came in, disturbing Rachel who was furious. She rushed towards her phone only to see it was her mom who was addressed as the grandmother of the family. Seeing her call made Rachel tense. She instantly knew something must be wrong or something must have happened.

Quickly she picked up the call.

“Grandmother” she called out with a smile but the tone she heard over the phone made her serious.

“Have you seen the news?” The woman asked, almost as though she was yelling.

“The news? I haven’t watched TV for a while, Grandmother” Rachel replied. It wasn't clear to her why grandmother was saying such things at times like this. There are other issues to attend to rather than watching TV.

“You fool, switch it on now. After you have seen what I am talking about, you call me” she yelled and hung up the phone. Rachel trembled. She feared she must have done something and that would mean she would incur grandmother's wrath.

“What’s it? What happened?” Stephen, who was impatiently
