Chapter Six

Shoulders squared, chin held high, and her nose in the air, Dame Katrine Kenton haughtily stepped foot into her living room, a slumped Cash was the first person her eyes rested on and she glowered. Tilting her head away from his form, she rolled her eyes, with her mouth downturned and sneered, muttering underneath her breath

“Wretched fool”

Swatting at the air, with her lips still downturned, she finally noticed her gathered family, raising her eyebrow, her gaze on Jason her favourite grandchild, she asked no one in particular

“What's happening here? What has the fool done again?” she groaned loudly

Jason decided to be the mouthpiece of the family, stepping forward, he placed a chaste peck on both her cheeks, before relieving her of her purse and hooking his arm with hers,

“Nothing grandma. Only that the fool decided to grow balls and assault Vivian, not only that, he chose to insult us and Vivian’s guest to top it all up” Jason rolled his eyes as he spoke, the drama and Cash’s humiliation that he had witnessed wasn't enough and he clamoured for more,

“He did what!?” Katrina bellowed, her nostrils billowing unseen smoke, she narrowed her eyes at Cash, gritting her teeth.

“What do you have to say you incompetent fool?”

Cash couldn't dare look her in the eyes, he avoided her gaze, his mind and heart racing. He glanced at her quickly, and almost immediately averted his gaze to the floor once more.

“I'll make sure to deal with you properly! Laying your god-forsaken hand on my precious grandchild!”

Moving closer to Vivian, she enveloped Vivian who had suddenly turned a drama queen, shivering with tears on her face, in a hug, running her hands all over Vivian’s body

“Are you ok, are you hurt anywhere, my sweet girl?” Vivian shook her head, sniffling and nudged her head towards Justin’s direction

“I'm alright Grandma. It's just my guest who he disgraced that concerns me”

Katrine, who hadn't acknowledged Justin’s presence, looked his way and smiled warmly

“I'm sorry for the embarrassment young man, I can assure you that we were all raised with manners, sans that foolish man over there” She pointedly looked at Cash, eyeing him, turning her attention back on Justin

“I apologise, be rest assured that the nonentity will be dealt with for his insubordination”

Still looking at Justin, she could tell he was of influence and affluence with the way he was dressed, and how he carried himself, leaning forward, she nodded slightly, she complimented Justin

“I must say you do look and clean up nice, your shoes are impeccable.” Justin's cheeks turned red as he blushed. Thumb and index finger resting on her chin, she tilted her head to the side, as if lost in thought, and gave a smile that reached her eyes

“Do I know you somewhere Sir? You do look familiar”

Smiling widely, Justin responded to her

“I'm not sure we've met before now. You probably must have met my father, I'm his younger version. Maybe that's why I seem familiar to you”

Katrina knew she didn't know him or his father, yet she feigned recognition. She wanted to know who the well-dressed and polished fellow was

“Most likely. I didn't catch your name though”

Justin rubbed the back of his head and smiled sheepishly, stretching his hand for a handshake, he introduced himself to Katrina

“I'm sorry about that. I'm Justin Dane, and my father is Victor Dane, we own and run several businesses. We are the owners of Dane co…”

“Cosmetics” Katrina finished for him, her eyes wide as a saucer, with her cheeks flushed.

While he had been making the introduction, she had instantly known his family business. Their company had been seeking a contract in Dane Cosmetics for a while now, and this information was only privy to a few people. Katrina knew she had gold in her hands, and couldn't possibly let it go, rather she would clean it the more, and value it the way she ought to.

Her blood began to boil over, her breath becoming heavy, she narrowed her eyes in Cash’s direction, gritting her teeth as she did. Cash would have made her and her company lose a great deal and connection because he was supposedly jealous. For someone who wasn't even a worthy person in the first place, the more she thought of it, the more she seethed.

Jason could feel his grandmother’s anger directed at Cash and he smirked, feeling giddy, knowing fully well that there was going to be another round of Cash’s humiliation.

Cash could feel Katrine’s intense gaze on him, and his heart raced, wringing his hands together, he feared for the worst. As the matriarch of the family, Katrina’s word and action was bond, she was highly feared and revered in the family.

Before he could react, and beg for forgiveness once again, he heard the pitty patter of tiny feet, as his daughter came running down, her nanny chasing after her. Wasting no time, she flung herself on Cash, wrapping her tiny arms around his leg

“Dada!”

He looked down on her, and smiled warmly at her cute face, her beautiful blue eyes smiling back at him, smoothing his hands over her dark curls, she was a carbon copy of her mother. He yearned to crouch down to her level, embrace her into his arms, and hightail from their family’s presence.

His daughter stretched out her arms, indicating that she wanted to be carried by him, lightly stomping her little feet in anticipation. Just as Cash bent forward to pick her up, Katrina’s bellowed, scowling at the nanny

“Get that child out of here this minute!”

Scrambling, the nanny wasted no time in picking up the wailing child, who kept fighting to get down from the nanny’s hand and race back to her father, the sight broke Cash’s heart, causing tears to glide down his face once more.

Katrina walked up to where he stood, glowering and baring her teeth at him. Cash slumped his shoulders, his feet shuffling, waiting for the worst to ensue.

“You will leave my house this minute you ingrate!”

His eyes widening, Cash faltered to the back, blinking rapidly and repeatedly as he did, trying to process what he just heard.

Opening his mouth, with a shaky voice, he stammered gaping at Katrina

“I d-do n-noot hhave a pplace to sleep Ma”

Still glowering, Katrina raised her eyebrows, rolling her eyes, she smirked at him,

“You should have thought about that before you ridiculed my guest, you fool!”

Everyone present felt happy within themselves as they looked on, it was high time Cash got dealt with. Jason who couldn't refrain himself snickered at Cash and smugly uttered

“Your name is Cash, you should probably use your name to book a hotel you know” and winked at Cash

Jason’s statement caused everyone to chortle loudly, and Cash to grimace, his cheeks and ears going red, as he fought against another round of tears.

Cash didn't acknowledge Jason’s words, but promptly got on his knees, bowing his head and stretching his hands as he attempted to beg Katrina. Before Cash’s hand grazed her legs, she flung them away.

Giving a brittle laugh, Katrina sniggered,

“I'll be going upstairs now. I do not want to see you here by the time I'm back downstairs, at least for tonight!” turning to Jason “Ensure he leaves my house tonight!”

In the same breath, she turned to Justin who was smiling widely, face beaming and nodded her head at him and smiled at him. “Welcome to our home Justin, the pest has been ridden off” and gracefully walked upstairs, not looking back.

Jason with Justin’s help swiftly got into action, teasing and taunting Cash whose hands had gone limp, staring down at the floor. Roughly pulling him up from his knees

“You heard grandmother! You aren't wanted here!” They both dragged his limp body to the door and roughly shoved him out the door. Closed the door behind Cash and rubbed their palms together to get rid of the touch. Just as the door closed, everyone jubilated, as though they were in celebration.

Behind the closed door, Cash crumbled to the ground, slumping his limp body on the cold ground.
