Chapter 9

"What! Since when? I know that he's your brother but you need to involve the police if it's serious. Maybe they can teach him a little lesson and he'll turn away from his mischievous ways." George said in a little raised voice, he was still wondering how Prince and Austin became brothers. The guy was the opposite of Prince.

If he hadn't stuck around Prince for sometime, he would not have believed that the young man was Prince's younger brother.

"I'm just going to give him what he wants so he doesn't expose my identity to the public. You know how much I enjoy my privacy and wouldn't want the world to know who I am. I'm not ready for that kind of life. Moreover, I don't want Lara and Kyle to know yet. I'm going to deal with them until they come crawling on their knees." Prince explained the situation and George quickly got the point.

"I think I understand you. However, you have to do something about your brother or he'd be your bane."

Kyle had slipped out of the engagement party without anyone noticing. He received a distress call from his manager and ran off to find out what the problem was. It was when he left the venue that he realized the repercussions of what he did. He shouldn't have left the place in the manner that he did and without dismissing his guests. It was going to raise a lot of eyebrows and people would reach their own conclusion without learning about the real issue.

Out of all the times, it was during their engagement that he had to get such a call. In fact, the call was a heartbreaking one.

Upon reaching the building that housed the man's office, Kyle hurriedly ran into the elevator that took him to the floor of his manager's office. 

Swiftly, he ran out of the elevator as soon as it was flung open. "Mr Chamberlain, what did I just hear?" Kyle said after he pushed the man's office door without knocking. He was breathing heavily and obviously restless.

The man understood Kyle's distress and didn't bother about the way he bagged into his office. "Calm down Kyle. We'll find a way to sort things out." The man said with so much concern in his words. He was also in distress because it was his job to get good movie roles for Kyle. If the job wasn't coming, how would he be paid?

"How can I calm down? Tell me why Royal production called off the project I was about to start with them? I've already been given the lead role and the script and I've started working towards it. The production is to start next week after my engagement. I thought you discussed this with them?" Kyle was agitated. He was so confused at the moment.

What was really happening? It had never happened to him before since he became a big movie star. In fact, producers were rushing him and the role taken away from him was a big gig. The role was indeed big with lots of work on his side and the amount he was to be paid was huge.

"Ugh, actually. There's more problems. I think you didn't understand it when I said it over the phone. Royal production doesn't want to have anything to do with you again. Even in the future, they'd never call you again." Mr Chamberlain carefully stated the points and Kyle's mouth fell apart in bewilderment. "What? Is this some kind of sick joke? You've got to be kidding me. No, that's not acceptable. I need to hear it myself. They have to tell me by themselves that they no longer need my services. I give them what they want and they can't just ditch me for no reason."

Kyle whisked out his phone from his suit pocket and dialed a number.

Ring Ring Ring.

The person on the other end picked on the second ring.

"Hello Sir. I just heard something from my manager now and I need to confirm the information. I don't understand…"

Kyle was still speaking when he was interrupted. "Mr Kyle Sherman. I'm sorry about the inconveniences. We've already communicated with your manager. I think you should direct your questions to him."

The call ended and Kyle nearly threw his phone away but restrained himself. He glared at the man in front of him as if he was an enemy.

"Kyle, don't get yourself worked up, you're an actor who knows his onions. I'm sure they'll call you back and apologize. Moreover, there are other producers who would do anything to have you in their movies."

Mr Chamberlain was still speaking when a call came into his phone. He took up his phone and stared at it. Recognizing the caller ID, he smiled and turned to face Kyle.

"I told you not to worry yourself and that another production company would call you. In fact, you'll be the most sought after especially as people have seen the video of your engagement with Lara. Mark my words, they'd start calling you both for couples endorsement deals." The man said to Kyle with his face beaming with smiles. The phone was still ringing in his hand and he immediately picked it up.

With the words that the man had just said, Kyle's face began to brighten as he heaved a sigh.

With so much delight and expectations, Kyle watched Mr Chamberlain as he spoke on the phone.

"I don't understand what you're trying to say. Is anything the matter?"

Kyle listened as the man's bright face suddenly turned worrisome and this caused him to be a little tense. The man finished answering the call with a long face. Carefully, he placed his phone on the table and turned to face Kyle.

Kyle was restless.

He ran towards the man and grabbed him by his arms. "Tell me, what did the person say? You're getting me worried with that look on your face. Talk to me. Is there something I should be worried about?"

Kyle was getting confused. He was still trying to place a finger on the reason why Royal production canceled every deal with him. His thoughts flashed to where Lara was and he quickly waved it off. He needed to save his career first before thinking about getting married to her. Moreover, her career was still intact.

He was still in his perplexed state when the door was flung open. Startled, the two men's gaze fell on the person who just came into the office in a haste.

With furrowed brows, Mr Chamberlain said to them. "Who have you guys offended?"
