The sound of the bell above the door chimed as Laramie stepped into the bustling café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the chatter of regular patrons. His eyes scanned the room until they settled on Katherine, who stood behind the counter, her furrowed brows showing deep concentration.

Katherine’s hands trembled as she balanced the tray of drinks, her heart pounding wildly. Suddenly, a slip of her hand caused a glass of water to spill onto a nearby customer.

“I’m so sorry, sir,” Katherine apologized, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she hurriedly grabbed a cloth to clean up the mess.

But the customer was not appeased. “You clumsy fool!” he spat, his voice thick with anger. “Can’t you do anything right?”
