Thirty Eight

Aiden's alarm clock beeped incessantly, dragging him out of a deep sleep.

He groaned, rubbing his bleary eyes as he fumbled for his phone to silence the noise.

Dragging himself out of bed, he shuffled into the bathroom, splashing water on his face to try and wake up.

He ran a hand through his hair, grimacing at the unruly tangle that greeted him. After a quick shower and shave, he dressed in a navy suit and crisp white shirt, fastening his tie with deft fingers. Today was another long day. One that was especially special. Today was the D-Day.

Downstairs, the smell of freshly brewed coffee beckoned, and he made his way to the kitchen, grabbing a mug and pouring himself a generous helping of the steaming liquid. He sipped it slowly, savoring the rich, earthy flavor.

As he drank, he checked his emails and made a few calls, making sure everything was for his trip home.
