Two

"What do you mean?" Aiden's voice was choked with desperation. "I had five thousand dollars in there just yesterday night!"

The teller gave him a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry sir,"

Aiden's eyes widened immediately, he had gone past what the teller was saying but was now trying to reconnect things. The teller couldn't be lying and that money was in his account just yesterday.

Aiden's stomach twisted into knots. How could this happen? He had been so careful with his money, only withdrawing what he needed to survive. And so there was no way he would have mistakenly spent it.

His mind was swaying towards one possibility but Aiden was trying to avoid coming to that conclusion.

But it made no other sense otherwise.

He took a deep breath and dialed Amby's number, his heart racing with anxiety and anger as he put the phone to his ear with shaking hands. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes as he waited for a few rings before she finally answered the phone

"Hey, Aiden," Amby said, sounding as cheerful as ever.

"Hey, Amb. I don't know how to say this but I wanted to ask if you probably took some money from my account. My grandmother's hospital bills. I'm sorry for asking like that but you know, you are the only one that has my pin and all my passwords." Even though he was brimming with anger on the inside, Aiden calmly asked his question praying and hoping that he was wrong.

The phone suddenly went silent from the other side, putting Aiden's heart at a very rough pace. He feared for what was about to come next.

"Yes, Aiden. I took the money," she said calmly.

Aiden felt his anger boil over. "How could you do something like that? My grandmother needs that money for her medical treatment," he shouted, belatedly reducing his voice as people in the bank began to look at him.

"I don't care, Aiden. You never give me anything, and I needed the money," Amby retorted.

"That money wasn't yours to take, Amby. You had no right to take it," Aiden replied, his voice stern.

"I had every right, Aiden. You owe me," Amby snapped back.

"What? I owe you? Amby, I can't even believe you are saying this right now. That money was for my grandmother's bills."

"Fuck, I don't care Aiden. She can go ahead and die for all I care... look, I don't feel sorry for what I did, Aiden. And I don't want to talk about it anymore," Amby said, her voice cold.

"Amby, how can you say that ?!!" His voice shook with emotion as he spoke with her on the phone.

Aiden felt his heart break. He couldn't believe that the woman he loved could be so callous and selfish, he had always known this part of her, but to this extent?!

"See Aiden, I had to get a lot of new bags and shit. As you know I love to live an updated life. And if you are still not cool with it. We can break up, I mean even for me at this point. Managing with you is hell, I've tried enough, haven't I?"

"I guess that is the best decision huh..." He replied, overtaken by the anger of what she just said.

"Wow... you are taking this more nicely than I thought, is it because I cursed your grandmother. Yes, well sure. Goodbye. Fuck you! Disaapear from my life!"

"You took the words right out of my mouth..." Before he could complete his statement she had hung up.

Aiden sat there for a moment, staring at his phone in disbelief. He couldn't believe that it was over between them, but he knew deep down that it was the right decision. He had to focus on his grandmother's health and getting the money she needed for her treatment. And he knew that he couldn't trust Amby ever again.

His brows furrowed together and he stormed out of the bank, he couldn't help his mind, and the next moment he began to recall their memories together.

She had always been the sweet girl in the early years of their relationship, she was the college beauty that he managed to win– even at that time, he always believed it was based on luck. He was handsome no doubt but Aiden was the type of guy that always felt there would be someone out there better than him

It wasn't a lack of confidence, it was just a cautious nature of his. Along the line even during their college days as she started dating Amby would request expensive and outrageous things. Aiden didn't mind, he was deeply in love then and was a total simp.

Until things started getting rough after he graduated, unable to further his education, he had to work part-time jobs in other to take care of his grandparents and eventually he got a job as an office clerk in a law firm. Still, he divides his income into three, one for his grandparents, one for amby, and whatever is left of the last one for him.

But nothing he ever does will be enough, it was from that point that Aiden was finding it hard to bear her responsibilities. But he still hung on, despite how hard it was, he had never thought of breaking up with her, not even once.

Aiden's shoulders shuddered as he walked down. He was going to cry if he keeps thinking about her.

But as he tried to hold back the tears– with the next step he took, tears streamed down his face and he could feel his heart sinking with each step.
