I take off running. I hear their boots hitting the ground as they follow after me. “Spix, open map” I say and a small map opens up at my side. The red dot is still there and beaming, pointing me in the direction of Inara's pit. A spear of ice swooshes past me and lodges itself inside a tree. Panting, I don't take my eyes off the red dot as I run like my life depends on it, because it does. I jump over a fallen tree and slide under another. The earth splits beneath me and I land on my back. “Give me the gem, boy” Cane growls. I get on my feet and throw a weak energy ball at him. It lands at his feet and he stares down in confusion. I spent all my energy on that punch. There is only little left until I am rendered useless and I have to use Ayra's system. I just hope it won't come to that. The after effects of the host system is not a pleasant experience. “ARGH!” Cane exclaims as I kick sand in his eyes. “I'll kill you!” I hear him yell as I take off in a differ
[NEW LOCATION UNLOCKED]“It's definitely different” Ravena breaks the silence. It's an empty space with mirrors on every corner. The hallways are lined with mirrors on each sidd that reflect whoever goes through them. There's no one here but us. “Hello?” She calls out. Her voice echoes through the hall of mirrors. She levitates into the air to survey the area for a possible exit. When she lands, there's a worried look on her face. “There's nothing in here but mirrors” “What is this place?“ Kara asked. She had recovered after taking Inara's tonic but she still held on to my shoulder for support when she wasn't walking. “It's a maze” Axel says, analysing the routes in front of us. There were four paths in front of us, each lined with mirrors facing the walkway like walls. “Spix, can you run a check on this area and find the host's dwelling like you did with Inara's pit?” I want to know. We might be walking into our deaths if we take each path individually. We had to be 1
[STEALTH MODE ACTIVATED. S-RANK HOSTS DETECTED]A light peeked in through the half closed door and into the dark closet I stood in. I had no idea where I had been transported to but I knew I was definitely not on the 55th chamber anymore. The air in here was different and oddly familiar. It sent a chill down my spine. There are people talking in the background but the voices are too far away and muffled to hear what they were saying. I move closer to the open door and strained my ear to hear more. “Are you sure about this?“ A female voice said. “She could get hurt down there. If she doesn't succeed in finding Iris then there may be no hope of getting her back. She's the only one who can open the gates” “She will succeed Laura. We have to trust her. It's the only way we can stop the pantheon. Once she returns, we will send the homunculus to destroy Eden Bizarre” A man said pulling her into his arms. “And what if it's defective this time? We almost lost everything becaus
[NEW LOCATION UNLOCKED: CHAMBER 56. THE KINGDOM OF CAD AND CROWE. MORE ITEMS AVAILABLE AT THE STORE]“WELCOME! WELCOME!” Someone yelled as we walked through the portal. A short man stood at the other end, wearing an odd outfit. He wore a jester's hat with little silver balls at the tips that jingled everytime he turned his head. “Oh JOLLY! YOU HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED. NOW THE KING WON'T HAVE MY HEAD!” He screamed at the top of his lungs, clapping his hands and bouncing from one foot to the other with a pink glow on his face. We all turn to each other with a skeptical look on our face. It wasn't strange that the hosts knew we were coming but it was strange that someone would be expecting our arrival at the entrance of the chamber. “Who are you?” I ask, regarding the little man. The exaggerated pink blush on his cheeks turned a brighter pink as he cusps his face and squirms in delight. What a strange man. “My! My! How rude of me. I have not introduced myself. I am Chancy the
“My lord!“ Chancy yells, running over to us and falling on his knees. In fact, everyone in the vicinity was bowing to the King. “You should not have come. I was just about to lead them to the palace” Chancy adds. The King regards me and for a moment I start to doubt if he's truly blind. “Very well. You must be tired from your travels. Come. Rest in my palace and we shall talk when you are well rested” he says turning to mount his horse. His eyes land on Kara who is now walking this way and he squints in confusion, turning his head towards me and then back to Karam he shakes his head, deciding to not comment on whatever he saw. “Chancy! Treat them with utmost care! These are our guests. I will see you all at the palace so you can shed light on this new situation” he orders before turning his horse around. “As you wish my lord!“ Chancy yells as he bows towards the king. “That is the king?“ Ravena says once he was out of earshot and the villagers had resumed their t
Knox I never truly understood my purpose in this life and i have always found it ridiculous whenever i hear people say everyone has a purpose. I'm sure anyone who took one look at me felt the same. I didn't understand the concept behind my existence and what was the thought process behind whoever decided to put me on this earth. I was born with an illness guaranteed to kill me eventually. The doctors said it was a miracle that i had managed to live so long but i believed it was the universe's way of prolonging my suffering on earth. After all, how could it be a miracle if there wasn't any chance of a good life afterwards. My brain was apparently the only thing that could function well enough. When i was eight years old, i was put in a wheelchair and I never got up again. My illness got worse and eventually I stopped talking, i was hospitalized and forgotten. The only interactions I had was with my nurse, Greta or Gloria or something who came to check if i was alive. The
Host? Am I a host? Does that mean i have powers. Was i the host Kara saw on her radar? I have so many questions on my mind but no one else to answer them. “Spix… Am i a host? What does all this mean?“ I ask again still not clear from Kara's explanation. I stare down at the statistics tab wishing i could understand what the hell it meant and why it was here in the first place. Magical tabs didn't just open up out of nowhere when i was still alive. “Name: Knox. Powers are undefined as you will level up through consumption. You have 0 past life abilities as you have not acquired any skill or experiences to assist you on your journey through the after life. Your rank is Host. Hosts are one with the system and they exist to serve the system and their main objective is to lessen the number of souls who make ot to the gates” Spix explains. “This doesn't make any sense. Not that anything has ever made sense. Am i truly dead? How did i end up here? That woman from the hospital…
When i open my eyes, a glowing pair of golden eyes are glaring at me. It startles me that i almost jump out of my skin. I look around to find that I'm no longer in the cave nor am i in the hospital. I'm behind bars. Kara is in a similar cell, her eyes are glowing but i can see the anger in them. She's sitting with back to the wall, her hair is no longer in the ponytail like she had it when we first met in the cave. She's all ruffled up probably from fighting off Axel earlier. He must be stronger than i thought. “What are you looking at?“ She asks and i turn my head away from her to take in the rest of my surroundings. I move towards the door of the cell and try to push it open but it doesn't budge. There are no windows and the only way out is through the door, judging by the stairway leading up, Up was not a place I wanted to go. “Spix” i say and the system tab pops up in front of me. “You are currently in the dome. A fortress north of Eden central owned by The deep ci
