“Have you been sleeping since we left?!” She shoots a murderous glare at him.

With a head bow, Aiden mutters some series of sorrys.

“He's growing lazier day by day,” Aiden's father-in-law says.

“Why won't he? All he does is wake up, eat, sleep and then repeat the circle over and over again.”

“Mom…” Harper cries.

Her mother looks at her. She opens her mouth to talk but soon closes it. “I'll let it slide this morning because of you, dear. But you…” she shoots another glare at Aiden. “Be prepared to start working before the end of this week. It's time you started contributing to this family. I can't continue feeding a useless full-grown man.”

She hisses and goes in with her husband.

Harper sighs as soon as they are gone. “You're not going to say anything to that either?”

Aiden shrugs. “It's time to start working if you actually think about it.”

“Damn! Do you know how much work you do in this house? Do you know how many hours of sleep— four hours of sleep is all you get everyday to be able to meet up with the house chores? Mown the lawn, do all the cleaning, cook—”

Aiden silences her with an unexpected hug. “I'm proud of you too, babe,” he says into her shoulders.

She snugs closer to Aiden. “I thought we were not going to give her the contract,” she mutters. “The man was pretty weird, asking me some really weird questions.”

Aiden smirks. “What did he ask you?”

She pulls away from him. “Nothing serious. Just this and that. I need to have some hours of sleep.”

Aiden nods. “I'll join you in bed soon. There are still some dishes to wash.”

She nods before walking to their room. Aiden makes a mental note to get her a ring later in the day. She's been patient with him for too long.

He saunters to the kitchen.

By the time Aiden is done with the morning meal, it's some minutes past nine in the morning. Yeah, cooking here is like working in a hotel. None of the members of the family eat the same food.

His mother-in-law especially has to try five different foods to see which one she wants to eat. On days when her emotions shoot up past the normal, she'd ask him to cook something entirely different after he's finished cooking and in the end, she'll complain about a bad appetite, completely making all his effort go into a waste.

Aiden sets the dishes on the table.

He hears a honk by the door.

He frowns. No one is expecting anyone this morning, well…as far as he knows.

He goes to the gate to open it. A Lamborghini Veneno Roadster drives in. Still wondering who the owner of the car is, Aiden closes the gate and to the car.

Wesley comes out from the car.

Aiden resists a scoff as he goes toward the door.

“Hello, Mister?” Wesley calls.

Aiden grabs the door handle. Slowly he turns around. “What?”

“I got some things for mother and father and my bestie, could you help me get them inside?”

Aiden scoffs. “Mother and father?”

He tosses her car key to Aiden. “Get the things inside and stop asking me stupid questions.”

“Suppose I refuse?”

“I guess you have parked your things because you're parking out of this house then.”

“If you bought—”

“Hey, dude, this is going to be the first and last warning I'll ever give you, don't try shit with me anymore. The moment I give orders, follow them. You and I are far from each other in every way than for you to talk shit to me like this.” He hisses and storms inside.

Aiden turns around to go inside. Who the fuck does Wesley think he is to give orders? He wants to snap at Wesley that he should come get his things by himself when he sees his father-in-law.

His father-in-law shoots him an angry look. “Go back and get those things,” his father-in-law orders and goes back inside.

Aiden's first impulse is to snap at the damn old man but he stops himself. He can't mess things up right now. He's been enduring this shit for the past two years, he might as well endure it to the end, get done with his mission and get the hell out of this place.

Minutes later, he dumps the gifts in the sitting room, glances at the dining room in time to see Wesley wiping the corner of Harper's mouth with a napkin.

“I heard you also applied for the contract with the Vicholas group Wesley,” Aiden's father-in-law says.

“Yes…”

“This is what I've been saying, honey,” Aiden's mother-in-law says. “We're so lucky to have been able to get the contract.”

“Actually…” Wesley clears his throat. “I didn't mean to say this but when I got inside the man's office last night, he gave me the contract…”

From where Aiden stays, he frowns. What the fuck?
