Chapter 2 Hunting For Money System

I drove my motorbike in an uncertain direction. I have no place to go home to. I've been living in the house Sofia's parents gave us. Sofia is the daughter of the richest man in town. Her parents didn't approve of our marriage from the start, but Sofia insisted on marrying me. I thought she'd always be like that, but this time I realised she couldn't bear a simple life with me.

I felt the air around me grow cold. It looks like it's going to rain soon. I even heard the sound of lightning starting to strike. But I don't care. All I want to do now is let out the emotions that are in my heart.

Where shall I go tonight? I have nowhere to go home to. I rode on with a wandering mind. When I woke up, I felt something strange. The road had become so empty. There were no vehicles to my left or right. I wondered where all the cars and motorbikes had gone.

I looked back ahead, but my eyes were immediately blinded by the white light in front of me. I ignored it and kept my bike moving forward.

"What's going on?" But the moment I entered the light, I felt my body become light, and I felt like I was flying. I couldn't even control my body, as if someone were lifting me up.

Shit! Where was my bike? Even the only item I had disappeared.

What was that sound? Why does it seem to be inside my head? What was that gate?

My body was still floating in a space that had no edges. White light was all I could see. I tried to move to fight the current, but my strength was useless here. Finally, I don't know how long ago, my feet stepped on something. My vision immediately became clear. Up, down, right, left, forwards, and backwards.

Before my curiosity about my current whereabouts had disappeared, a transparent screen appeared in front of me, displaying a huge array of numbers.

Still confused as to what exactly was going on, I simply fell silent when I saw the writing in front of me.

"What is this? Is this some kind of game?"

The curious me pressed the "YES" button on the transparent screen in front of me. Immediately, the image of a bag of gold appeared in front of me.

I watched the screen carefully. In the top right corner was an image of a small bag of gold with the number one million written on it. In the left corner were the words "LEVEL 1". At the bottom left was the word

"SKILL" and at the bottom right was the word "INVENTORY".

At the top centre was my name, Leon Durand. Out of curiosity, I pressed it.

I felt like I was in a game world now. I pressed the back button and pressed the INVENTORY button instead, and the screen in front of me instantly changed.

[BLANK]

I then pressed the BACK button and the SKILL button.

[EMPTY]

I pressed the BACK button, and the previous screen appeared. I used to play a lot of games, and this looked familiar. I tried to blink my eyes a few times to convince myself I wasn't dreaming.

[You're not dreaming.]

I tiptoed in surprise when I heard the voice again. I thought what I had heard earlier was just a hallucination, but it turned out that the voice was real.

"Who are you?"

[I am the one who will guide you in this HUNTING FOR MONEY SYSTEM. Just call me Newt].

"Hunting for money system?" I frowned when I heard that word. "Do I have to hunt for money?"

[Exactly. You have to hunt in this dungeon to get gold coins. A gold coin is worth 1,000 dollars].

"What? One gold coin is worth $1,000. I have a million gold coins, which means I have... I counted with my fingers. "A billion dollars!" Between shock and disbelief. How could I have so much money? "You're not playing me, are you?"

[I've never played the players. I'm just a guide, not a player].

"Can I change the money now?" I couldn't hide my happy expression. I had already imagined that a mansion and a luxury car would be mine.

[Of course you can. Press the picture of the money bag first and wait for my next instruction].

I obeyed Newt's orders. I pressed the top left of the screen, and the screen in front of me changed instantly.

I stared at the screen for a long time. I wasn't really sure, but there was no harm in trying. I took a deep breath and finally did what Newt asked. The screen changed, and I entered 100,000 as a trial. Soon after, I felt the phone in my pocket vibrate.

I took the phone out of my pocket and opened the incoming message. My eyes were wide open when I saw the series of numbers listed.

I was speechless when I saw my current balance. Is this for real? I rubbed my eyes to make sure what I was seeing wasn't an illusion.

"Is this real money?" I muttered.

[Of course. You can buy anything with it].

I couldn't hide my happy face. I'm sure the smile on my lips was wide enough for everyone to see that I was happy.

While I was dumbfounded by the contents of my account, some zombies suddenly came towards me. My face, which had looked happy, immediately became tense. Their shapes were truly terrifying. It was almost like what I often see in films. Their heads were tilted with their tongues sticking out. Their eyes were full of white, with a small black dot in the centre. I saw rotting wounds on their faces and some parts of their bodies. I could even smell the stench from where I was standing.

"Why are they here?" I stepped back as the zombies slowly approached me. I was afraid they would bite me and make me like them. At least that's what I know from the film.

[The name of this system is "Hunting for Money". So you have to hunt in this Smooky Hollow dungeon to get coins that can be turned into money."]

"Then what am I supposed to do with them?" I was just happy to have so much money, but suddenly I was terrified when I saw what was in front of me.

[You have to destroy them to collect coins.]

Damn it. How can I kill so many monsters? I have so much money; should I just get out of this dungeon?

"Newt, can I leave this dungeon now?"

[You can't leave until you've killed 50 creatures.]

"What? So I have to kill 50 zombies first?"

[That's right. Once you kill 50 creatures, the Smoky Hollow Gate will reopen, and you can leave."]

I tore my hair out because I was at a dead end. What do I do to kill them all?
