*SLIDE*
The doors slid opened, we walked in and then the button for fifth floor was pressed. The doors closed back up as our ascension took place from one floor to the next and on getting to the third floor the elevator stopped for the first time since entering then a lady with her daughter, some inches shorter than I was, entered and turned their backs to us.
The lady pressed the button for the seventh floor which was the last floor of the building then she turned and both her and Brian exchanged pleasantries while I tried avoiding any form of contact with the little girl, who on the other hand was constantly staring at me all the way till the doors opened again on the fifth floor and Brian and I stepped out. I was so happy to get out of there.
*STARE*
After covertly rushing out of the elevator I stood quietly for a minute the moment I got to see the fifth floor and in all honesty it wasn't what I had imagined it to have been like when I made the jump back. It was mundane and ordinarily simple, with just a bunch of desks, paperwork and workers.
'They must have really gone through many changes in my time thanks to mine and other's help'
The elevator door closing behind me and making a dinging noise snapped me out from my thoughts when I saw that Brian had already stepped ahead of me and after walking up to join him again Brian introduced me to the rest of the workforce and the daughters of some who had families as his lovely daughter, Amanda.
...Brian had his own office as the managing director of the logistics department by the left side of the room but besides that nothing else in the room deserved a second look. It still surprised me at how the GHA was able to replace WHO while looking like this. Connections really matters a lot in this world and how they managed to privatize a global body just flew above my head.
Although, I have to give them mercy that the GHA building is recently built after the founder successfully took the mantle as the overseer of the territory's health and safety and also their old company building wasn't structured for this type of work and since the company is doing very well in it's area there was really no need to change it to serve as the GHA. But still, they could have made things a lot better like how the bottom floor with Divia looked so cool.
.We entered into Brian's office and sat down with Brian behind his desk and me at the other side just like how it was in the principal's office. After seeing that I was comfortable in the seat, Brian gave me my share of the hotdogs which was a single box of one hotdog then we both ate and threw the napkins and boxes in the wastebin beside the desk. He helped me to waste mine.
After waiting two minutes for the food to digest Brian went back to work as usual and started to fill out some documents left on the desk while I waited for the supposed "BRING YOUR DAUGHTER TO WORK DAY" to start but it looked like this was going to be it, first the hotdogs then next me spending the rest of my day looking over at a strange guy.
*TSK*
'Shit! This is such a waste of time, but those hotdogs were nice though'
..An hour and a half had passed and Brian was still at it arranging documents and with me having nothing else to do but watch I decided to do some information surfing with my eyes as I began to move my head around and then by chance I looked over at one of the documents Brian had on his desk and it wrote on top UNIFICATION OF TREATMENT FACILITIES— BLE BY DOT LOG CHIPS
"Hmm?" I grunted while also tilting my head and scrunching my eyebrows
"I know you're bored but rightfully speaking you're supposed to be in school as I arrange all these stuff, not really my fault" Brian said and then smiled with eyes still planted on his work.
"That's not it" I replied
"What is it then?" He asked flipping to the next page of his documents
"This document over here" I tapped on the header then separated the said document and pulled it out
"What does it mean?" My inability to see the complete heading had restricted my understanding of the subject before I asked the question.
He dropped his pen then took a pause from his work to look at the file I had in my hand
"Ooh that file, it's something that you wouldn't be able to understand" he smiled.
"Common, since I have nothing else to do we can as well just talk about your work and pass the time, for starters we can go with this" I flailed the document in front of his face
"Alright madam, alright" he transitioned from a smile to a chuckle and I could see that the tension from being chased from school and the kid outside had completely left him
"Well, as the name says UNIFICATION OF TREATMENT FACILITIES WITH PARAMOUNT MEDICARE IN THE UNITED STATES ACCESSIBLE BY DOT LOG CHIP..."
With the full heading of the document being displayed I could already tell what the gist of it was but since I had already asked before I saw the full name I had to now complete the process.
Brian continued "Once i'm done checking it out and the Government approves it all hospitals in the United States are going to give easy access to people with the Dot Log Chip implants since their chips would have already recorded more than half of what is wrong with them before they even get to the hospital and therefore make the work of the doctors easier. No need for long waits to get a meeting with a doctor and something like that"
*SHH*
Brian gritted his teeth consciously
"Sorry I got carried away, was that too much for you to understand?"
"Oh, not at all. I understood perfectly well and it is nice actually" I gave a fake smile which prompted Brian to continue
"We are doing great work here Amanda, just imagine... blah blah blah"
At this point I stopped paying attention to what Brian was saying. I was too pre-occupied with my own thoughts at the moment
'So my suspicions were spot on and that's how they started gaining clout with the Logs. First they brought the notion to easy medicare with it then for those still stubborn to get implants when the Pyrex 9 broke out they were treated like second class citizens to those who had the Logs making more people to want the logs and the benefits they brought... Very smart'
..*TICK* *TOCK*Another hour passed with me and Brian both sitting in silence while a monochrome type of clock on the desk continued to count the time.
'Looks like my coming here was a burst huh!? Fuck! I should have just returned when I failed entering into Brian's body but we know what other consequence that would have caused' I thought.
"Sorry about not giving you attention on our special day Amanda but now I'm done, so let's get it on" He smiled as he closed the final document with a bang of his hands on the table.
Just as he was getting ready with arranging the documents and keeping everything back in place the landline rang with a message from his assistant *RING*
"Yes Eunice?" he answered.
"Sorry sir but I was just told to inform you that there is an emergency meeting scheduled for 1 pm today and you are required to be in attendance" said Eunice on the other side of the line.
"Seriously?"
'What's going on?' My eyes fidget in anxiety.
"Yes sir. I suggest that you start getting ready" She insisted.
"An emergency meeting, does that mean that he'll be there as well?" Brian's eyes lit up a bit
"No, unfortunately not Sir" said Eunice and just as quickly as Brian got excited so did his Glee go down the drain.
"Alright, I'll get ready... Come to my office, there's something I want you to do for me before I head to the meeting"
The call finally ended and feeling guilty about having to leave Brian looked over to me with puppy dog eyes "I'm so sorry, I just got a meeting meant for next week moved up to this afternoon by 1 pm and I have to get things ready fast"
"1 pm?" My expression changed and I got a boost of energy. Slouching on the chair earlier I sat upright and looked at the time on the monochrome type clock in front of me and it read [12:31 pm]
"It's almost 1 pm Bri— umm I mean dad" I said and he took a look at his wrist watch to confirm.
With little time to spare he rushed, found, prepared and arranged the needed documents for the meeting and fifteen minutes since the call with his assistant ended the doors opened. It was his Eunice coming in to remind him of the meeting scheduled for one 1 pm in case he hadn't been serious with it over the phone and also to help him prepare if he wasn't ready yet.
This was my chance, the opportunity I had been looking for since I got here and now everything was lining up for me to carry out my plans. I almost couldn't contain my joy.
"Amanda, i'm going to go to my meeting now but I'll be back soon, wait for me here and if you need anything Eunice will be right outside to take care of anything you need, Okay?"
"Okay!" i replied enthusiastically and this time it was all me. Amanda's emotions weren't coming through to make me giddy
*STEP*
Brian went out with his assistant and seconds later poked his head into the office through the door saying "Since our bring your daughter to work day has been cancelled I'll find a way to make it up to you, I promise. Alright bye!"
*CLICK*
The door was closed. Left all alone, I rushed out of my seat and locked the door behind them before I began to contemplate on how I was going to get my hands on the GHA Dot Logs Black Box program from five stories up while it was in the sub level AKA the underground basement floor.
I needed a plan and I needed one quick and not just any plan, I needed a plan that accommodated my current dilemma, being in a grade schooler's body trying to sneak into a highly secured room, d******d codes and then return back without being caught.
I didn't want to do anything that would change the current time stream I was in too much and just jumping into the wrong body had already made its own butterfly effects that I haven't calculated for yet.
..Unlike my previous plan which solely focused on needing Brian's body to work in the case of just strolling into the room, using my ID card and biometrics to unlock all closed doors and using my authority figure as deterrent for any suspicious eyes that could come my way, but now I had to do a lot of sneaking around and bypassing in order to succeed.
For the plan to succeed, I needed really suphisticated equipments to handle some aspects of the bypassing. But since I didn't have any of those, I had to look for easily assessible materials that could give me the same results.
For that, I looked around the office for said materials.
I needed an ID card to access the elevator and not just any regular ID card but a special personnel ID card to gain access into the Black room(where the Blackbox was integrated) and only three people currently present in the whole building should have it, I assumed. A flash drive to copy the Black Box program, USB cable, couple of wires to bypass some security cells and panels but if not wires any conducting material would do just the same. A screwdriver, tape, powder and a micro processor which could be found in any smartphone. I felt like Mickey Mouse and Dora the explorer all mixed into a single body and the urge to say "this is a surprise tool that will help us later" after I thought about the powder made me to crack a smile. With all the limitations I had with the bypassing equipments it was now left to my genius with tech systems and hardware remodification to showcase itself, and yes, those are just names I
I took in a deep breath of air and then released a slow sigh, preparing myself mentally for what I had ahead of me. This very act and thought filled me with a minute chill in my joints, but that wasn't going to halt me from my objective at this stage of the plan I had managed to get myself to, regardless of the obstacles I had and was still going to face. "Alright, it's time to head out" I pulled the dangling cords on the straps of the backpack which was already worn on my back at the time and this action caused the backpack straps to tighten a bit more, fitting a little bit better than before. Next I buckled the backpack around my waist to prevent it from falling off, also pulling the straps by the buckle to make it fit even tighter. Now all set, I walked over, stretched once more and got into the vents, closing it back behind me but unfortunately I wasn't able to screw the nuts shut because there wasn't enough of an opening for my hand to fit through to do
I stood inside the elevator, with no rather prevalent emotion being noticed over the others I already had (feeling a sense of premature accomplishment would have been understandable for a situation like this but there was nothing) and pressed the button for the ground floor first, because you needed to be in the ground floor before you could follow the security procedures that lets you access the sub level floor. The elevator began to descend from one floor to the next with the lights above the door flicking on and off with each level reached and with having only three floors before I reached the my first stop in the journey, I wouldn't be doing that much standing and waiting. As I got to the ground floor it stopped, well paused being the operative for me because that wasn't my final destination. I stood close to the door, staring slightly to the right and under all the designated floor buttons was a gold coloured protruding rectangle shape
"Hey, Greg, check this out with me will you" said one of the security personnel in the security room inside the fourth floor. "What is it Matt?" replied a rather preoccupied Greg with a tone hinting at being annoyed by what was asked of him to do. Officers Gregory and Mathew Jones, who were both sitting in front of the monitors with each having been doing their own thing for a while now, except that that was about to become interrupted by Mathew. Greg had his feet kicked high and crossed, resting on the dashboard underneath and connected to the monitors while his face and mind were both emersed in his video game screen (Messengers of the High Realms: Apocalypse) while Mathew watched the camera feed nonchalantly seconds earlier. "What is it Matt? You know that I'm in a heated battle right now. I'm about to beat the other team for the first time ever and it only took me like, you know, a month to get to this level. This boss of theirs with cod
The wailing noise of the alarm was steadily bouncing off the walls of the room I was in and into my ears, causing me to panick more and more with every passing second. Meanwhile, directly above me and with a distance of couple hundreds of meters. In the monitor room of the fourth security floor, Greg and Mathew panicked as well. "What's going on Greg, what's that alarm for?-- What did you do?!" Mathew asked as he stood up abrasively, pushing his entire weight on the dashboard as he supported himself with his hands which were placed around the blinking alarm light. "Tsk" Greg smacked his tongue. Mathew's accusing words caused Greg to become distracted from his previous panicking state. They had both forgotten their Workers handbook at home. As a fact, Mathew had asked Greg to pack his for him before they came to work today, but Greg, not really seeing the value in the handbook because there hasn't been a need for it until now, wil
""The Blackroom?"" Both Mathew and Greg exclaimed in unison then from that point on only Greg asked the next question as the elevator descended "You mentioned that name earlier, but what's so important about this so called Blackroom anyway, Chief? "Yeah, I was wondering the same thing Sir. Why is this room so important and high clearance that we didn't even know about it or how to get there until you came and are now taking us there?" asked Mathew They made it all the way to the ground floor first then Jerry extended his hand in an attempt to follow the procedure for the elevator to go to the sub level floor next but the second his finger got close to the gold protruding rectangle shape with the wings emblem on it, the elevator started moving downwards, throwing him off balance. "What the!" exclaimed Jerry in shock and confusion as he staggered, trying to get his heart rate back to normal as the unexpected motion of the elevator not on
After becoming aware of what was happening around me, I quickly stood up and just as quickly dashed to my backpack and zipped it shut as fast as I could. Not being able to close it completely as the parts of some of the tools I had used earlier stuck out a little *STEP* As the door was almost half way closed, I started to sprint for the door with the backpack in my hand. Knowing that I had to get the backpack out first I started giving it a strong backwards momentum and then a forward thrust with each step I took and at the peak of my throwing arm length I let go and the backpack was flung all the way through the opening of the door which was now about sixty-five percent closed at the time. *STEP* *STEP* I finally managed to get close enough to the door, which was now about seventy-five percent closed, then I powered my legs and jumped forward as hard as I possibly could in a diving position with my arms extended and making it out of the door
After the elevator had stopped abruptly, which was entirely due to my interference in tempering with the circuit board, Jerry Stringer, Mathew and Greg Jones all staggered while they tried to find their balance once again. In my attempt to short circuit the controls for the door, I might have accidentally disturbed the sensors attached to the breaking system, affecting the stopping of the elevator itself. However, this was an action that was only momentarily. "What was that?!" Greg asked with his heart racing but was left with no answers from the two men present there with him. Later on, seeing as no one was willing to answer his question Greg went on to ask yet another one because this man wasn't one to be deterred by silence, not at all. "Umm question..." he raised his hand like a student who was about to ask his teacher something in class "Does what just happened mean that we're finally there, umm i mean here, umm whatever preposition is needed!" he
