After the fight with Bastet, Madeline was celebrated so much anyone would think she won the lottery. Bastet had suggested a little party to celebrate their growth. Even though they were both winners and losers, everyone had to admit that the star of the day was undoubtedly Madeline. While Derek inquired from Madeline about the specifications of her power, Lydia and Tiny exchange opinions about their fight. Aesir on the other hand felt a bit down.

Even though Tiny had always been the toughest, Aesir had always been the strongest. But now regardless of how hard he had worked, He had only barely made any improvements. Derek that was usually the weakest could now challenge him and Madeline that was always a coward could now stand out enough in a fight with Bastet. Aesir wondered if he could have stood a chance against Madeline and her creatures not to talk of Bastet herself. He felt the zeal to work harder than ever and so he took an early exit from th

Bastet dropped Aesir off in his room, "Poor boy," she whispered as she left the room. She went back to meet the others in the hall. How it happened, she did not know. But Tiny and Lydia were having an arm-wrestling competition. Apparently Tiny wanted a rematch of sorts.Bastet went back to her seat and watched the kids as they played at the table. She couldn't help but smile. She knew times like this would not always come. It was best for them to enjoy themselves whenever the opportunity presented itself. The world of Writers was never a nice one. She looked at Derek and could not help but shake her head. She could imagine how rough the road would be for him. And worse, he was part human. Those Writers in the noble families would look for every opportunity to eat him raw. She knew the only thing that could secure his life was strength.Even the House of Thembeka would not take lightly to a weak heir. And at

Derek had not returned to the hall but went back to his room. He was in no mood for celebrations. The only matter on his mind was how to rescue Maria from the Nathifa family. After nearly an entire day of pondering, he finally came up with a plane roughly in his head. But he knew he would not be able to do it alone. And so, this resulted in the small meeting in his room. Naturally, the meeting attendees were Tiny, Aesir and Madeline. Lydia was most definitely not invited. She was Bastet's acolyte. That alone spoke volumes of where her loyalty lay. Derek did not want a situation where he was snitched to Bastet because of a careless trust. The only people he could truly trust with his back turned and eyes closed are those currently in this room with him.Since Derek came back from the Red sea, he had become a lot more sensitive to runes. Although he could not control all runes, it was basically not an issue to sense their presence. He had noti

Lydia could not believe her eyes. Before her, were three creatures with ropes around their necks fastened to a tree. She recognised them at first sight. They had the head, front legs and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. These things were about the size of a full-grown horse. These were Griffins. She immediately asked Derek, "Where did you get the Griffins from?" Derek was more surprised about her presence here than answering her. He could not understand why she decided to tag along. The Griffins were from Bastet's temple. It was part of her collection. Griffins were rare creatures, at least in this world. Bastet had more than fifty of these guys just lazying around in their pen. Derek had come across them when exploring the runes of the temple. This was what he had planned out for their transportation. The reason was simple. They could not use planes. Derek was afraid Bastet would be able to track them and

Along the way, introductions had already been made. Derek carried Aesir over one shoulder while Tiny carried Madeline and they followed the Monopod."Come along, just a little further. We are almost there." Old man vis urged as there went through a large area of vegetation so thick it appeared dark under daylight. After they passed through, Derek could not believe his eyes. This was not what he expected. When old man Elvis invited, he thought at most he was going to see a village of 20 to 30 monopods. But by the estimate of his sight, he could have sworn this was a village of at least several hundred. There were houses everywhere made from or within the trees. There were children playing all around, mothers cooking outside and even a group of Monopod men that hopped by carrying a live boar tied to a long stick. This was a thriving community.According to Lydia who was unsurprisingly the only one with a phone, they were somewhere aroun

Derek had his hands over their heads. He concentrated on using energy from his soul rune to push the dummy runes simultaneously into Aesir and Madeline. This was definitely not easy. If not for that he had been draining and refilling his soul rune for a while now when making the dummy soul runes, he would have not been proficient in controlling his soul rune energy. And to add to that, he was having assistance from Hayaa. Soul runes were the foundation of any writer. It was a sign of Destiny's acknowledgement as a ruler. Even a dummy soul rune although never created until now was being passed, the natural rules of the world would not allow it. Hayaa was using her authority as an Origin rune to blanket this atrocity. The rune that Derek had made on their foreheads glowed in a similar blue colour as the dummy runes that was being passed into them. Derek could feel it. Their souls. He could even feel the voices trying their h

The Central Mesis Humus as the name implies is a farming ground. But Humans were not the only kind of mortals being farmed here. In general, the lives of mortals serve as anima for Writers. But unlike humans that could only produce anima, some races had other usefulness. Like the Monopods, there had a value that other creatures did not.Items such as scrolls that held powerful runes or runes cast need some special ingredients to hold their power in place. The leg of a monopod was a special one. It had far more use than this, but using it as an ingredient for scrolls was a major one. Monopods have been hunted and used until they became an endangered species. More like Elephants or wild cats. A Writer of noble blood had inherited a small group of monopods from his father and had brought them to Earth, the Central farming ground. This was where he reared them.Old man Vis remembered how his people suffered. Their numbers were neve

Derek could not believe what he had just heard. This monopod's life had been terrible, one filled with fear and continuous pain. But that did not mean he should take out his frustrations on him. "What about my friends? What did you do to them?" "Oh! the two ladies are fine. I am just going to use them a bit differently. See, I know they are not Writers. They do not need to die like you." Derek felt a wave of relief wash through him. "But they are still friends of a Writer and nothing good can come out of that. They will become properties of the Grootslang. Same thing with the other two in the lab." Meanwhile... Beneath Old man Vis's huge tree, in a temporarily makeshift prison made of thick branches as bars, Lydia and Tiny lay with their backs against the wall and their hands tied with natural cottage ropes above their heads. Tiny opened her eyes. She could barely see around h

While Old man Vis had gone to take care of his guests, Derek was fed continually with water from a big bowl. The monopod feeding him the water could not believe his eyes. This guy had already finished about 12litres of water and he was not stopping. He had thought of just giving up about 6 litres of water ago but Derek had reminded him that Old man Vis said that he could have as much water as he needed. And so Derek consumed nearly 80litres of water before he stopped, feeling better and refreshed. He could also feel that Hayaa had woken up early from her nap because of the poison and was now helping him push it out through the wound old man Vis had made on his chest. If only old man Vis knew that Derek and water had moved from worse enemies to best friends, he definitely would not have let him come close to so much as moist from the air.The monopod looked on in surprise as the dying man that Old man Vis had said he should look after or kill

And mounting it's back, she delivered a crushing blow to its neck.*Caw!* It screamed again. However, she did not stop for a bit and after the fourth blow, the eagle passed out. Derek and Aesir stared at her in surprise as she slowly stood from the eagle's back. She made fierce eye contact with Derek and then looked away. Aesir turned to Derek with a brow up, and Derek raised his hands in surrender, "what I'm innocent. I swear!" "Of course you are." Aesir smiled and walked away.Manila began work immediately. The plan was to use the bird as a distraction for the scorpions so that they could pass. The best way to do this would be for them to make sure that the beast could no longer pick up flight.Manila was unsurprisingly skilled at this. She cut out the feathers of the beast.Aesir and Derek also joined her and helped. Soon eno

Derek could not help but look at them and observe them. These were not like the scorpions he knew from earth. For one, they produced webbings from their tail end. Also, there seemed to be very organized and particularly busy. Some of them were bigger, but those big ones were few. And from the looks of it, they monitored the activities of the smaller ones. But it will be far better than to have those things have our scent. Cause ones they do, they will follow us for a very long time." Manila advised."Hmmm. Is there no way to distract them?" Madeline nodded her head in understanding to Chief Sasha's words."So what does this have to do with aura?" Madeline asked."Well! Every thing." She picked up another stone from the ground, "according to your definition of aura, then aura is this object in your hands. And has stated earlier, it weighs you down over time." Chief Sasha turned and threw the stone into the water, then she turned once more and slowly released her aura, "However, if you understand that all it is, is an extension of your body, then behold the weight is gone. After all, your hands have always been attached to the rest of your body and you don't hear them complaining."Those words suddenly stroke difference to Madeline. Meanwhile, back at the mountain that belonged to the Waka tribe, Derek sat crossed legged in a cave assigned to him. This cave was by far a better one than the one he had and his friends had been sharing on first arrival. Also it was decorated appropriately and it even had a bed in the middle made of several animal fur. Derek had already given out instruction that he would loved to be left alone for a while, if not the entrance to this place would have been crowded by people. With rumours of the tribe having a writer as a guest, every body wanted to meet him. Also, tales of his marvelous feat from the battle earlier in the day had reached their ears.He was as good as a god to them at this point. At the entrance of the cave already lay all sorts of gifts for him. However, Derek was not all that interested in playing messiah at the moment. He just had too much on his mind. Too much problems that needed his attention. One of which was the pressing matter that both his women were mis
