For a few seconds, Ivy stares at Lorette like she (Ivy) has suddenly electrocuted.

“Weston didn't tell me a lot about you, just the part that you had a child for him. The rest I figured it out myself,” Lorette says and she means every word of it. Last night, she got everything she needed to fit in the puzzle of Weston's child and ex girlfriend.

“I tried to make an effort for Weston to look for you so you both can come to an agreement about how he's going to take full parentage over Hannah but I'm starting to regret it now.”

“Well,” Ivy says, “you'd better regret it. I'm five months pregnant with Weston and that's what I came to tell him.”

Now, it's Lorette's turn to be shocked.

“Even myself I'm shocked. I went to the doctor just yesterday and confirmed it. I guess I've been too busy in the past few months to take notice of it.” She goes back to the sofa and sits down. “I'mma give you advice, Miss…”

Ivy looks at Lorette. “If you're wise, you'll apply the advice. Don't p

Weston is putting on an apron when Lorette and Santiago come back in. They both seem to look shocked to see him in the kitchen as if nothing happened. As if his fucking ex didn't just make his face go red in embarrassment. “That girl is—” Santiago is starting to say when Lorette covers his mouth with her palm. “What're you up to?” Lorette asks Weston. Weston can see her giving Santiago a scolding look. He pretends not to see them. The last thing on his mind now is to explain any shit to them. Last night, he almost couldn't sleep after telling Lorette about his daughter. Really, her scolding kind of gets to him. How the fuck did he become a father when he was just twenty? Not like Hannah isn't the best thing that has ever happened to him, it's the guilt, the damn guilt of knowing he could have waited some more time. He could have waited until he knew what parenthood is really about. No matter how he thought about it, he could have done something. He could have noticed

He covers his nose and quickly walks to the sitting room to see the source of the smell. The damn smell is not from the sitting room. It's from the damn kitchen where Santiago is supposed to be making the omelette. Weston slowly enters the kitchen. The first thing that catches his sight is the odd black stuff inside the ocean of oil in the frying pan. He rushes it and quickly turns off the stove. The omelette is so damn burnt that Weston can swear he's never seen any food as burnt as this all his life. “Shit,” he mutters. He glances around the kitchen to see Santiago leaning on the wall and staring at the phone like he just got rejected from a crush of fifty years. Weston shakes his head slowly. He opens the windows in the kitchen. He goes to the sitting room to open the window. The burnt smell is strong there and right on one of the sofas is Lorette clutching a pillow to her chest, her eyes fixed on the plasma TV. “Didn't you smell it too?” He asks but she doesn't seem to he

“And, you know, when you're solving other people's problems, you forget about yours and sometimes you might even find out your problem is nothing compared to others.” “I don't know the problem yet but my problem right now is far more complicated than other people's problem,” Weston says and sits down. “So, there is this girl I have been seeing for the past two months,” Santiago says. “We're not not doing that type of exclusive dating. I see other girls and she sees other men too which we're both cool at. I mean, I'm not ready to commit to any relationship now.”Weston takes a bite of the food and nods. “I don't remember, but I think last month was her birthday, she didn't tell me but I found out about it on her Instagram page, so I bought her a limited edition bag and a ring. Don't ask me why I bought a ring for her, I didn't propose to her. I made it clear that the ring wasn't some shitty proposal, I just loved the ring and wanted her to have

Weston stands up. “Do the dishes. I'm going to rest. It's almost midnight.” He drops his plates in the sink. “I have an idea. We'll make Lorette do the dishes.” “Stop being a dic—”“Have you ever seen Lorette looking scared? I doubt you have. Won't you want to see?” “I won't…” well…Weston thinks about it, has he ever seen Lorette scared? No. “Stop being a kid,” he mutters more to himself than to Santiago. “I know what to do to get her scared,” Santiago says. “We can make her do the dishes once she's scared.” “I'm against this,” Weston protests weakly just to make his damn brain stop reminding him that this isn't a good idea. He'd really love to see how Lorette looks when she's scared, even though he knows he's being a jerk. “She must be watching some horror movies again,” Santiago whispers to Weston as they tiptoe out of the kitchen. “She's always super focused anytime she's watch

Lorette honks the horn for the hundredth time since they started the drive even though there is no car in front of them. “You're sure this will go well? San isn't all that careful around women, you know. He can piss a woman off within a second,” Lorette says. “I don't think that's what should be on your mind right now,” Weston says, glancing at himself in the mirror. He's sure his father would disown him if he happens to see him along the road and recognize him with the blonde wig and makeup that makes him look like a woman. “It looks good on you, really, stop making a fuss about it,” Lorette says. Weston glances at her. With the short wig and a bit of camouflage moustache she has, he'd have mistaken her for a man. “Don't look at me like that.” She honks the horn again. “Why won't I, sir?” “Stop…” she groans. “Just tell me what you have in mind. It ain't going to be funny if we're in there and that woman comes to

Lorette can't find her voice. Instead, she nods. Lorette has no idea how long the kiss lasted but it felt like just a second. A second that seems like eternity at the same time. By the time he takes his lips off hers, she's breathless. They're both breathless. “You're…you're something else, Lorette,” Weston says, his voice sounding like the best note of music she's ever and will ever hear. He slowly lets go of her face and brings the car to a halt in front of Jace's house. A man comes around and asks Weston a few questions. Lorette doesn't hear them, all she sees is Weston and damn, how the hell can a kiss be so good? The gate opens and Weston drives in. He's saying something to her but she can't hear it. He stops the car and glances at her. A frown appears on his damn compelling face. “I think I like you, Weston,” Lorette says before she can stop to think. Before Weston can react, she opens the door and goes out.

“Shit. I almost fainted. What's she seen since she started working for you?” Santiago asks.“Nothin’. I'm clean when she's around. Playing the role of the good guy. She's pretty much a chatting type,” Jace says. “But you can't be sure, bro.” “I wonder why boss promoted you with you suspecting everything,” Jace says. “You can't trust nobody, bro. I don't trust no one.” “Update me, man…” Weston hears the clicking of glass cups. “No update. Personal information.” “Boss said he gave you a special assignment,” Weston hears Santiago say. “Special means I can't share with nobody.”“Not even me?” “You've been disappointing me these days…can't tell you shit like I used to do. I don't trust to begin with but you've been disappointing me,” Santiago says. “How?” “Ivy. What's with you and her?”“Oh…? That? Just needed some way to get into that family and she sh

For crying out loud, he almost didn't believe it when he saw Weston's car coming inside Jace's house and to think the two went as far as using a damn disguise to conceal their fucking identity? He can forgive anything but he can't forgive it when people use him against his will. What the fuck is Weston trying to do? Using him against his plan? He gets up from the bed to check the camera he installed in the room. He stops the recording and checks the footage of the last few minutes. He slept for two hours. The pills are working so damn well. He

“I have now,” Weston drops the picture frame on the sofa and carries Hannah in arms. “How is that? Did they disappear and come back?” She asks. “Daddy, how do people become people? I have not seen anyone jump down from the sky. Are there places where people go to pick babies? Daddy…answer me…” she whines as he carries her in the car. “Which of them should I answer first?” “When I grow up, can I become an actor? I will be on the screen. Will you watch my movies?” “Of course. Why won't I?” About two hours later when Weston drives to his parents house, Hannah is sleeping in the back seat probably tired of rambling for hours. He smiles as he parks the park and wakes her. “Have we arrived?” She asks, looking at him sleepily. Weston nods. “Big pop and lala are waiting to see you.” He helps her get out of the car and holds her hand. He's barely climbed the first step leading to the house when his mother rushes

Later that evening, Weston is in the sitting room, watching Lorette and Hannah have one of their long funny conversations as they prepare for a visit to his parents. “When I grow older, I want to be a museum tour guide,” Hannah says. “Didn't you say you want to be a make-up artist some minutes ago?” Lorette asks as he helps her into her shoes. “I can do that as a side job. When I don't have clients in the shop, I'll quickly go to the museum,” Hannah says. “What about the online cooking tutorials? How are you going to have time for that?” “Oh…that? Daddy, I can shoot videos at midnight, right?” Weston frowns. “When are you going to sleep then?” “I can sleep for two hours.” “Two hours?” Weston asks in horror. “Yes. I am going to shoot the cooking tutorial videos for like two hours. Another two hours, I'll use it to shoot videos for my dance clas

Three days later, Weston knocks at the door of a hospital room before going in. The patient on the bed raises his head. He stares at Weston then at Hannah whom Weston is holding.“You're okay?” Weston asks before realizing it's the dumbest question to ask a person on a hospital bed. “Yes…?” Jose answers. Weston can't really tell if Jose is trying to play dumb too or he doesn't know what he's saying. “Hannah, meet Jose, he's one of the best friends that daddy has,” Weston tells his daughter. “And, Jose, this is my daughter.” Jose's mouth parts slightly. He closes it a few seconds later and smiles. “She…she looks young.” Weston chuckles. “Young? What's a five year old supposed to look like? Old?” “I…sorry. I mean. Shit. You have a sure way of taking me by surprise.” “You think so?” Weston strides to Jose's bed. He drops the fruit basket in his hand on the table. “Last time I checked, you did some

“Hey, Santiago,” his godfather says once there is an answer at the other end. “How are you, sir?”“I…I'm sorry.” His godfather shut his eyes. “What the fuck did you do again? I already told you I got Weston and Lorette covered. I have Weston's kid with me, I'll use her to—” “That's not it,” his father cuts in quickly. “I…um…I told Weston about Dylan.” For a lot of seconds, there is silence at the other end. “Where are you?” Santiago's voice is unbelievably too calm for the revelation. “Home, of course.” “Let's talk face to face.” Then the line goes off. The phone falls from his godfather's hand. He runs his hand through his grey hair. “You have a kid?” “Am I supposed to answer that?” “If I knew you had a kid, I'd have abducted her and used her against you. I had no idea at all.”What? Is he out of his mind? His godfather raises his head and looks at Weston. “Once San

Weston can tell from the look on her face that there is something more. He waits for her to tell him. “I stumbled in on San and his father arguing one day, San was kind of telling his father to keep shut if he doesn't want his ass in the pool.” Weston waits. He's sure she isn't just telling him just for telling sake. There must be something more. He waits a while longer, forcing his damn brain not to think his daughter is five and she's with fucking Santiago. “He hates it when people snitch on him,” Lorette adds. “Kind of…he…” she lets out a deep breath. “Sorry. I just…I had no idea I'd be telling this to anyone.” For some seconds, she stops to get her emotions back together. “Even if San tells me something as little as what he ate last night that nobody knows about, he doesn't want me to tell anyone. When…I think we were sixteen when I first realized it. He told me he was fooling around with a girl and I kind of jokingly told the girl to tak

Weston stops the car and runs his hand through his hair. “I begged you, apologized to you, did all sorts of things but you still didn't agree to get married to me, so why do you keep asking about your daughter?” “When did you apologize to me?” There is silence at the other end before Ivy starts to talk. “Okay, since you want to hear it, I'mma tell you. If there is anything I regret, it's having Hannah. I thought you would dump me for some other women later if I didn't have a child for you since you don't really seem all that ready to get married to me. I needed something to assure me you're not going anywhere and getting pregnant seemed like the best deal.” Weston bites hard on his lower lip. “You must have figured this out but I stopped using contraceptives without telling you. But I'm starting to realize it's all stupid now. If I knew Hannah was going to be a burden to me, I wouldn't have gotten pregna

With rage, he dials Santiago's number. “What the fuck do you think you're doing?” He shouts. “Hey, you wanna make me deaf or something?” “Whatever shit you're up to, you should know better than to involve my daughter.” “What can you do?” “Where the hell are you?” “Not so easy, bro. Not so easy. I need to spend some time playing with Hannah and getting to know her before we come to an agreement of what to do. Till then, stay anxious.” With that, the line goes off. Weston dials the number again, it doesn't ring. Obviously, Santiago blocked him. He dials another number. “Find out where that fucking bastard is.” “Alright, sir.” He dials his father's number. “I need to find out where Santiago is.” “Okay. Is everything okay?” “No but I don't have the

Weston comes out of his car. It's been more than thirty minutes since the cop pulled him over but he's not responded to him since then. The other cars he pulled over before Weston's are long gone and the cop doesn't seem like he has anything he's doing at the moment. “Excuse me,” Weston calls the cop’s attention. The cop glances at Weston. “I'll attend to you soon, I'm quite busy.” “If you're not going to come check whatever it is that you want to check, I might as well start going. I didn't do anything wrong in the first place.” “You didn't do anything wrong?” The cop scoffs. “Was that how you were supposed to put on your seatbelt? Was that how you were supposed to fasten it?!” Weston frowns. “What?” Is there a certain way to fasten seat belts? “Come with me,” the cop says, already walking to Weston's car. They get to the car and t

“Daddy was smiling in the picture Abigail gave to me. And, daddy only smiles when he is with people he likes.” Santiago chuckles again. “How old are you?” “I am five years old. How old are you?” “Me? I'm the same age as your father.” “Daddy is…um…twenty five. You're twenty five?!” She asks in surprise.Santiago nods. “Yeah. Why?”“Daddy said monsters are old, like five hundred years old. And Father Richard said only monsters kill people. Does that mean you're a young monster?” The smile dies off Santiago's face. “I'm not a fucking monster.”“‘Fucking’? What does that mean? Do you have a dictionary? I'll look up the meaning.” “I mean, I'm not a monster. That's the meaning.” He glances at Hannah to see her staring at him. The glasses on her face feel like some gadget she's using to scan his thoughts. “What…” he clears his throat. “You can't see without your glasses?” She sighs. “It's a lon
