After leaving Bruno and Ghea, Anna continued to chuckle as she drove, remembering the faces of the two people who looked surprised that Anna was richer than Bruno. She glanced back at Dakota. "Did you see how surprised their faces were? It was so funny."
Dakota smiled in response to Anna's words. She didn't expect that a seemingly shy woman like Anna could do such a brave thing. "It turns out you're brave enough to fight them too."
Anna smiled, watched Dakota for a moment, then focused back on looking straight ahead. "That's because of you. You helped me first. Thank you, Dakota."
Dakota nodded her head in response to Anna's thanks. "Now we're even. You don't have to treat me anymore."
Anna immediately turned to Dakota with a severe look in her eyes. She shook her head, disagreeing with the man's words. "I can't. I've promised to treat you better than today, Dakota. And you can't refuse it."
Dakota nodded with a chuckle. "Okay."
Although she refused on her lips, she was pleased in her heart. Today's treat alone was enough for her, even though everything was a mess because of Ghea and Bruno's arrival.
Anna glanced at her watch. The look on her face changed from happy to panicked. "Ah, Dakota. I'm sorry, I don't think I can take you home now. I'm really late. Do you mind if I ask you to accompany me to the company? I promise when I'm done, I'll take you home."
Dakota paused, considering it. But looking at Anna's agitated face, she finally nodded, agreeing to Anna's request. "Okay."
Anna smiled with relief. "Thank you, Dakota." Anna raised her index finger. "I owe you one more favor."
Dakota only responded with a smile. Anna immediately accelerated her vehicle towards the company where she worked. Finally, the car stopped right in front of a large and tall building with many floors. Dakota and Anna got out of the vehicle.
Dakota was confused about why Anna didn't park her car directly in the parking lot, but soon, the question in her head was answered when they started to step near the door. One of the security officers respectfully approached Anna.
The security guard bowed halfway before Anna. "Good morning, Miss." He extended his hand to Anna.
"Morning." Anna smiled kindly back at the security guard, then gave the guard her car keys.
Dakota understood that the security guard would park Anna's car there. Dakota walked into the company, following Anna.
Anna glanced at her watch again. "Dakota, I'm sorry. I'm really very late. Can you wait for me here for a while?" Anna led Dakota to sit inside the lobby on the sofa in the waiting room. "I promise, just for a little while. It won't take an hour."
Dakota nodded her head, agreeing to Anna's request. "Okay."
Anna strokes Dakota's arm with an anxious look on her face. "You can order any food from the staff here. Please forgive me. I have to go now."
Dakota smiled as she nodded. "Yes, no problem. Just relax, Anna."
Anna smiled. "Thank you." She waved goodbye to Dakota, then stepped into the elevator to head to the company's meeting room on the second floor.
Almost thirty minutes had passed, and Anna hadn't returned. Dakota began to feel bored. She repeatedly read the magazine on the table. Occasionally, she even adjusts her sitting position. She didn't want to order food like Anna said because her stomach still didn't feel hungry. Dakota began to be confused about what else to do to kill boredom.
Dakota got up from her couch and then looked around the lobby. She was pretty amazed by the very luxurious state of the hall. The floor and walls were covered with granite tiles that sparkled beautifully. Dakota was also interested in one of the nature paintings displayed there. It looked expensive and classy even though it was just an ordinary landscape painting.
"Hey, who are you?" Dakota was startled by the voice of a man who suddenly came to surprise her.
Dakota turned his head towards the direction the voice came from and noticed the neatly dressed man who greeted him. A light blue shirt with black cotton pants and black pentacle shoes. Dakota smiled, trying to be friendly.
Dakota extended his hand to the man, introducing himself. "I'm Dakota."
The man with the name tag named Dominic frowned, taking in Dakota's appearance from head to toe. "You're not an employee here? Your clothes are wrinkled and dull. It's so ugly. How can you be here? This is no place for a man like you."
Dakota was a little surprised by Dominic's insult. She retracted her hand as she watched the man in front of her. "I was waiting for Anna."
Dominic's brow furrowed even more at Dakota's mention of Anna's name. His heart spoke. Anna? Which woman did he mention? As far as I know, there is only one Anna in this office, none other than Miss Anna.
Dominic folded his hands in front of him, giving Dakota a sharp look. "You mean Miss Anna? Are you kidding me?"
Dakota heard the man's inner voice. She immediately nodded her head, agreeing with the man's words. "Yes, Anna."
Dominic chuckled at the severe look on Dakota's face. "You even dare to say her name directly? Shameless!"
Dominic's voice was so loud that some other employees turned their heads toward them. Some employees were curious and approached, crowding around Dakota and Dominic.
A woman dressed in a white shirt approached Dominic. "What's going on? What's all the fuss about? This is an office, not an amusement park."
Dominic chuckles in annoyance as he points his index finger in Dakota's face. "Look, a homeless man walks into the office and he says he's waiting for a woman named Anna. Is there any other Anna here, other than Miss Anna? And how dare he say her name directly without any frills."
The female employee immediately glanced at Dakota, looking sharply with eyes that moved up and down, watching Dakota's appearance. "Wow, a tramp like you is presumptuous to enter this office. Never mind, you should just leave here. You're dirty. You don't belong in a place like this."
Dakota exhaled in response to those people, still remaining calm. "I'll leave after Anna is done since I came with her."
The female employee named Elie chuckled while scrunching her waist. "Hey, don't you know who Miss Anna is? She's the daughter of the owner and CEO of this company. Are you kidding me? How could you come with Miss Anna. What a no-brainer!"
Dominic pushed Dakota's shoulder with the tip of his index finger. "Just get out of here! No more talking and making up stories!"
Dakota threw Dominic's hand off his shoulder, leaving Dominic stunned. The few employees who saw it immediately cheered in disgust, thinking Dakota was dirty.
Dominic was angry with what Dakota had done. "How dare you touch me. How dare you touch me! Get lost!"
Elie raised his hand, calling for security. "Security! Come quickly!"
The security officer standing guard in front of the lobby door turned around, entered the office, and immediately approached them. "Can I help you?"
Elie pointed his index finger at Dakota with a very annoyed look. "Look at this! How can a man like this just walk into the office? Are you guys not doing your jobs well enough to let a guy like this in?"
The security guard watched Dakota with a furrowed brow. "I don't know when this man came and how he got in here."
Dakota looked at the security guard, who was already different from the previous security guard because he had changed shifts. "The other security guard saw me come in with Anna."
The employees laughed at Dakota's answer. "You suck. Stop making up stories because we won't believe you."
"Never mind, get her out of here." Dominic pushed Dakota's body until it hit the security guard. "What a nuisance!"
The security guard grabbed Dakota's arm. "Come on, you'd better follow me out of here!""Let go. I told you, I came with Anna." Dakota tried his best to remain silent, even though the security guard was equally trying to drag Dakota's body away from there. All the employees were laughing at Dakota. Dominic was again rude to Dakota by pushing the man's body. "Don't make up stories. We as employees here have never come together with Miss Anna. Are you dreaming in broad daylight like this? You're crazy!"Another woman shook her head while chuckling in annoyance. After all, everyone here knew that not just anyone could get close to Anna. "You'd better get out of here now before we call the manager to kick you out because if Manager Robin intervenes, you'll be sent straight to jail!"Dominic chuckled. He actually felt satisfied hearing that. "Let him go to jail. I'm sure, he must be a poor person with no home." He folded his arms across his chest. "A poor person like him deserves to live i
Everyone there was shocked to hear Anna's story. How could a messy-looking man like Dakota be Anna's lover? They all looked at each other. Their heads were all in the same place, wondering what was happening. The one who could least accept this was Dominic. He approached Anna boldly. "Excuse me, are you kidding me? How could a man like him be your lover?"Anna gave Dominic a sharp look, even sharper than before. "Watch your language. What's wrong with him? I won't forgive anyone who insulted him earlier, including you, Dominic." Anna held Dakota's wrist as she gave the man a deep look. "Come on, let's get out of here."They all fell silent, feeling bad for Anna. Because this was also very surprising for all of them. They thought that Anna's lover was a man from a respected family and was very rich like Anna, but in fact, it was a shabby-looking man like Dakota. However, they also couldn't deny that Anna had said it herself. Anna led Dakota out of the lobby, regardless of the confused
Dakota had re-entered the campus. As usual, everyone's gaze remained the same, looking down on him and insulting him. However, Dakota didn't care about that because her only goal was college. There were still thirty minutes before Dakota's first class started. Dakota decided to relax first in the campus park while rereading the lessons passed during this week."Well, well, who's here? I thought, you wouldn't come to campus anymore after having a rich lover, Dakota."The voice was very familiar to Dakota. Who else, if not Ghea. Dakota was too lazy to face Ghea again. The man immediately got up, intending to leave, ignoring Ghea. But after a short step, Ghea had already blocked his body.Still feeling annoyed about the incident that day, Ghea ruffled her waist and stared at Dakota with a sharp, hateful look. "Where are you going? After managing to get a rich lover, now you're being arrogant like that to me? It's disgusting. You lousy loser, man!"There were only two of them here. Ghea s
Dakota didn't go to class. He deliberately searched for the woman in his mind's eye, who was raped by Hansen. He remembered that the woman's name was Adelle from the law school. Dakota couldn't figure out if Hansen had the heart to take away his chastity. Dakota immediately looked for Adelle's class. He frowned when he passed one of the classes, and then his footsteps stopped. "I kind of saw her there."Dakota took a few steps back, then looked into the classroom where Adelle was. He continued to watch the woman. Adelle looked glum and quiet, sitting in the back row. Dakota was sure that Adelle was mentally shaken by the rape. Dakota had to talk to Adelle. He decided to wait for Adelle until the class was over.Just after one hour, Adelle came out of her class. Dakota, who had been waiting since before, immediately approached the woman by holding Adelle's hand. Suddenly, she was shocked and scared."Let go of me!" Adelle tried to release Dakota's hand. She was terrified, thinking that
Adelle looked at Dakota. The doubts in her heart had disappeared because she saw the look in Dakota's eyes that implied sincerity. Adelle was sure that with this, she would get that justice. Adelle nodded her head in agreement with Dakota.Dakota smiled, then began to make a mutually agreed plan. "We'll set him up. I'll get him to confess to everything he's done, but we have to get him on tape." Dakota was still holding Adelle's cell phone. "I need your cell phone to record his confession because I don't have a cell phone."Adelle nodded her head, agreeing to Dakota's request. "Go ahead, there isn't anything important on there anyway."Dakota nodded. "Alright. We'll divide the tasks for this."They talked about how the flow in their trap should go smoothly. Both had agreed on it, and Dakota had prepared a scenario for Hansen to fall for the web.Adelle glanced at her watch, which was already unnoticed. They talked for almost half an hour. "Ah, I'm sorry. I have to go to class soon. I
Hansen's brow furrowed. However, his face still looked utterly innocent. "Everything you said was just nonsense, Dakota. You're just wasting my precious time. Before you report me, I will first report you to the authorities for defamation of your own professor."Hansen grinned. He took out his cell phone and dialed the police station. "I want to report my student who defamed his own lecturer. The location is in a park area near the Conburgh campus."The police officer on the other side responded to Hansen's report. "Yes, sir. We will be there shortly to follow up on your report."Hansen hung up the phone while grinning at Dakota. "Look, you're the one getting arrested by the police, Dakota. You can't do anything to me."Hansen wasn't messing around with that. He could use this situation to his advantage. By reporting Dakota to the police, of course, the campus will not believe Dakota, even with the evidence Dakota has.Dakota looked at Hansen with a severe look. "Are you sure you can
Dakota was now satisfied that his scholarship money had returned and he had also helped solve Adelle's problem. The scholarship money for the past few months was not given to him, including the support money, supplies, and other money that the campus gave as an appreciation for him having received the highest score in the last semester had also entered his personal account. Yesterday, the campus had corrected his data again. In fact, the campus also asked the bank to block Hansen's account so that it would no longer be misused.Dakota included moving behind the scenes, so his name was not too dragged into the case involving Hansen with the police. Everyone on campus only knew about Hansen's arrest because the campus had managed to track data and get some evidence from students. That's all, according to the agreement made by Dakota and the campus. Even so, he was still in an unpleasant situation because some lecturers looked at him with sharp eyes, because of course the lecturers knew
Dakota frowned. This had absolutely nothing to do with Ghea. They were accused carelessly for what Dakota didn't do, linking it to the misfortune Dakota had experienced. Dakota glanced at Rudolf, who was smiling as the students in the class shouted at Dakota. He just realized Rudolf's inner voice that he heard earlier in the cafeteria. Apparently, this was what Rudolf had planned for him.Rudolf grinned at Dakota. The look in his eyes flashed seemed to show dislike for Dakota. "Just admit it, Dakota. We've even got the evidence."A man in a blue shirt came in carrying some papers that Dakota didn't know what they were. "We found your worksheets from last semester's exam and they are exactly the same as the ones on this answer sheet. Maybe you stole the answer sheet from the previous lecturer and worked together to get the scholarship?"Everyone in the class was getting annoyed, shaking their heads in disbelief. "It turns out his innocent face was a lie. He stole the answer sheets to g
"What is this? Why is the news like this?" the aunt stared at the screen dumbfounded. The news they prepared and presented to the media to attack Dakota suddenly turned around and attacked them. Moreover, the news exposed their family's confidential matters."It is known that the family of the O'connor family heir's adoptive father before returning to the O'connor family treated the heir with bad manners." The man presenting the news spoke loudly with the news. "They took the money from her father's death insurance without giving any of the money left to Dakota."They were dumbfounded, looking at each other. Not understanding how it could have happened. They had no idea that news about themselves would be exposed to the media. They weren't necessary, so they didn't think the press would target them."How did they find out about that?" They were stunned. Even Dakota didn't know about her adoptive father's insurance, and his will wasn't read in front of her. She hadn't received any supp
"What the hell is Dakota doing to us?" Said the uncle, who was currently on the side of the road not far from Dakota's company. They were all forcibly evicted by the security guards and threatened to be reported to the authorities if they were still there. So, with the people forced to leave, they looked disgruntled and upset."I don't accept what he did to us." The aunt coaxing Dakota with her sweet words now showed her true face. "She can't just kick us out."The people strolling and blocking the other pedestrians seemed to be very indifferent to the other people. They walked and stopped, walked and stopped again without caring. There were three women and two men, but none cared about Dakota. The woman who had blonde hair and looked younger than them looked at her brothers with a similar look on her face. "He can't be allowed. We must teach Dakota a lesson." The woman privatized hi,."Lesson?" The woman who approached Dakota earlier turned his attention to the woman. "What do you me
"Dakota, you're such a joker." The woman, whose face looked shocked a moment ago, now turned soft. She chuckled while patting Dakota's arm.But Dakota had a different expression. He ignored what the woman was doing and just glanced at her with her gaze looking down because they were quite short and too close to her.The woman touched Dakota's hand like she was used to doing that every time she met Dakota. She didn't seem awkward at all, even though to Dakota, what she was doing was a nuisance. The woman's eyes widened, and with her face as friendly as possible, she spoke, "You are very easy to joke with. I can tell that you're a good person." She complimented Dakota, flicking her gaze towards the others, and the men greeted the woman's words with pitched exclamations. "After all, we're the ones who took care of you when you were little. If it wasn't for us, you wouldn't be in this place right now." She spoke with pride."That's right!" The others exclaimed. "We are the family that too
"I told you to let me in!" Snapped the man, Dakota's uncle, while Dakota's status was unknown.Because the news about Dakota circulated across the country and appeared in the newspapers, people who recognized Dakota recognized Dakota's picture, which was only taken briefly because the O'Connor family still guarded his identity. But for people who intersect with her, of course, Dakota's silhouette is so easy for them to recognize. Therefore, the uncle is currently in the leading company owned by the O'Connor family to find Dakota."Sorry, but you can't come in." The guard at the building's main door blocked his uncle Dakota's attempt to break in.Since they were so insistent on getting in, they seemed normal at first. But when asked what their purpose was and if they had made a schedule to meet, the people, instead of answering argued to be allowed to enter. The man with slightly bleached hair near his ears brushed off the guard's hand. "I told you I was his uncle! Didn't you hear me?"
"How could this be Dakota?" The voice of a woman in the crowd on the street, staring at the street billboard that showed an announcement about Dakota. The woman stared wide-eyed at Dakota's appearance, which had changed 180 degrees from the Dakota she once recognized. The woman tightly clenched her hand that held her bag tightly, her eyes did not move from where they were, listening to the news being aired all over the country. She was Gea, the woman who rejected Dakota's love five times because Dakota was just a poor man. Gea used to really dislike Dakota because of Dakota's poor status. She was upset that a poor man like Dakota dared to like someone like her.But now, Gea seemed frustrated to know the truth. "I should have just accepted it back then." She regretted it. "If I was with him, my life wouldn't have been possible like it is today."She grumbled in annoyance, her past suddenly came back into her head, she remembered the figure of Dakota who used to like her but she rejecte
"I heard that there are many guests coming today." A glamorous woman in a dress cut low on the chest spoke to a man before her.The man nodded. "Yes. I saw from the guest list that the guests invited by them are three times more than the guests they usually invite." The classic-looking man responded. Many people dressed in luxurious clothes in the ballroom of the residence occupied by the O'Connor family as one of their leisure homes. They wore hand oes, clothes, and jewelry from world designers with limited items. They seemed to enjoy the party even though the main event had not started.Their conversations varied, ranging from simple greetings by those who rarely met because they had their own busy schedules, talking about business and what was trending among the upper-class people, to talking about their respective lifestyles as show-offs."Almost everyone who comes to this place is critical." In the middle of the party, the other guests were observing the guests. The woman with br
"I got a lot done today." Dakota stretches his shoulders in the spinning chair before the computer screen.A few days ago, James had given him various assignments that suddenly became jobs he had to take care of and learn about.Starting with learning about their family tree, the company run by their family, and the people involved with their family, all Dakota learned because of James' orders to him.James wanted Dakota to know that as a basis, then after he understood it, James made Dakota tour each of their subsidiaries, but Dakota was there to accompany him and look around. For a whole week, Dakota's schedule was packed with things James had in mind after observing him. Dakota still remembers that just when he thought his schedule was over, James said, "It's time to introduce you to the public. You've prepared everything you need to know, and now it's time for you to emerge as the heir of the O'Connor family.""I have prepared the guest list. Mr. James said you need to look at it
"Hands off!" she snapped at the officer loudly. "What are you doing?" he looked panicked and worriedly at Dakota. "Sorry I came late, sir."All of them looked shocked and couldn't believe what they saw, especially the manager and the security guard, who recognized the man with the cane as their senior officer in the mall. The man was the highest leader of their branch mall. He was the managing director. The manager looked nervous. He read the situation and tried to realize what was happening. "Mr. Director, what are you doing here?" he looked confused. "Don't you have an important meeting today? Why can't you?" Those questions came to mind.As he said them one by one, he was like getting the scattered puzzle pieces and being able to put them together clearly, then his face turned anxious and panicked looking at Dakota. He looked at Dakota with a fierce look. "No way, so he owns this mall, like he said? he's not lying?" the man thought to himself.Dakota glanced at him with a slight sn
"Come to the watchdog room section. Some people are giving me a hard time in this place," Dakota said right after their call was connected."You're currently at the mall, sir?" the voice on the other end sounded panicked. Without giving Dakota a chance to answer his question, he spoke again, "Yes, sir, I'll be right there." He ended their phone call. He ended their phone call.Dakota contacted one of the highest-ranking staff in the mall. It was true that Dakota did have the largest share there. But he did not run it and take a position as one of the board of directors there because his work was already too much, and he just wanted to take his profit opportunities.Being an investor for them was much more flexible because he couldn't divide his time while he had a lot of work.As their call ended, the woman looked at him with a laugh. "What are you doing? Who did you call?" She chuckled. She really couldn't believe that Dakota was the one who owned such a big mall.Even being one of t
