Chapter 9: The Right Time To Begin Responding.

"No need, I want to take things slowly. If I suddenly stand too high, it won't win people's hearts." Anderson said.

"Alright, tomorrow, you will surely become the chairman of that corporation." Mr. Lewis said.

For people like Mr. Lewis, with global achievements, even if his grandson wanted the entire city of Lightharbor, it wouldn't be a problem. But surprisingly, he only wanted a small corporation!

"Second, on the 14th of this month, prepare a grand wedding for me in Lightharbor." Anderson began stating his second condition.

“Who are you marrying?”

"Three years ago, when I got married, it's a pity I didn’t have a wedding then. The 14th this month is my anniversary with Lauren Harris. I want her to be truly happy that day, so I will organize a wedding for her." Anderson said.

"Can I attend then?" Mr. Lewis asked, appearing smaller and more humble than ever. It was evident that even a boss like him could seem so diminished in front of his grandson, clearly showing his deep love for Anderson.

"If others don't discover your identity. I don't want my true identity exposed. My father was framed and led to bankruptcy; until I avenge this, I won't reveal who I am. Moreover, if I stand too high, those people won't dare trouble me, making my revenge difficult." Anderson said slowly, his eyes showing a hint of ruthlessness when mentioning his enemies.

"Alright, I understand. As long as it's what you want, I'll fully support you. But one thing, stop addressing me so formally, call me grandfather for once."

"Grandfather." Anderson said briefly, but it was enough to deeply move Mr. Lewis, as if it renewed his hope of finding his daughter.

Then Anderson said: "Can you help conceal information about our meeting today? I don't want others making wild guesses."

"The fact that I met you can be concealed, but my visit here today can't be hidden. I came in a hurry and didn't have time to change vehicles."

Anderson could only nod and said: "That will have to do. I must go now, and you should return home safely."

After Anderson left, Mr. Lewis, alone in the room, signaled for his bodyguard. He then added a few strands of hair into a ziplock bag on the table and handed it to the bodyguard. Though he said nothing, the bodyguard knew what to do.

Mr. Lewis gazed somberly down from the balcony, where Anderson's parked car was being retrieved. The figure was small but recognizable as Anderson: "Investigate everything about my grandson. Those who harmed him, I will not spare a single one."

"Yes, boss."

...

Meanwhile, Anderson was on his way home when the system finally spoke: "Congratulations on completing the mission, you have received a reward of two million USD."

The mission assigned by the system was: "Regain the heir status of the Lewis family." This was the task given to him while he was in the car with Lauren.

The system then said: "The way you work is efficient, facing the boss without a hint of fear."

Anderson didn't reply. It wasn't that he wasn't afraid, but in front of Mr. Lewis, familial affection made him realize that the old man was not to be feared, at least not between them, as a blood connection made their interaction easier.

Then, Anderson asked: "Have the Harris family realized the necklace I gifted was genuine?"

"I'll scan for information, please wait." The system responded while running a code line on the screen, followed by a video clip showing Caroline picking up Anderson's phone from the shattered.

She exclaimed: "Grandma, this necklace might actually be real!"

"Why? Why do you say that?" Chase Harris, Caroline's father, asked.

"There's a phone here that scanned the QR code of the necklace. Maybe… we should take the necklace and its box to Eclipse Prestige to check, it might be..." Caroline suggested.

"Huh, how could someone as poor as him afford real jewelry? There’s no need to waste time checking." Conrad stubbornly refused to believe, doubting Anderson could afford genuine goods.

"Caroline, go and check it anyway. Besides, we can use it as proof that Anderson gifted a fake, let's see what he has to say then."

"Okay."

Anderson signaled to stop the video at that point, knowing how the rest would unfold. Those people always looked down on him for being poor; he wondered how they'd react when they realized they had carelessly lost $200 million.

Then, the system spoke again: "The system assigns a mission: buy a house for your wife and slap Caroline in the face. She's about to marry, and the Lopez family is preparing a honeymoon villa for her and Conrad in the Dream Flower Royal area. You must buy the most luxurious house there for your wife."

"Do I have enough reward money?"

"Of course not, so you need to earn the money yourself."

"How much is the villa in Dream Flower Royal?"

"The cheapest is a million dollars, but the most luxurious, the innermost one, costs five million dollars."

Anderson didn't say anything. His total assets were now just about one million eight hundred thousand dollars. Buying a one million dollar house wouldn't be enough to compete with Conrad and Caroline, but anything more expensive was out of his budget. He suddenly thought of his grandfather, Fernando Lewis, who could help if the system couldn’t. Mr. Lewis was his financial backbone. But first, he needed to buy a new phone since he had left his old one at the Harris house.

Thinking this, Anderson went out to buy a phone and then returned home.

As soon as he got home, he saw his in-laws and wife waiting on the sofa. Before he could speak, his mother-in-law berated him: “You useless man, do you know how much you’ve embarrassed us? Gifting a fake necklace is one thing, but then you say you’ll organize a wedding with my daughter. I ask you, do you have money for a wedding ring, for booking a banquet? Or even for printing the invitations?”

“Mom, I said I can do it.”

“I was foolish to believe you. Ever since Lauren married you, she hasn’t had a single day of peace!”

Anderson didn’t respond, fed up with his mother-in-law’s scolding, and stood up to leave. But his mother-in-law seemed not done yet: “Where are you going? I haven’t finished speaking.”

“Mom, please don’t be hard on Anderson anymore, he’s already under a lot of pressure today, let it be.” Lauren intervened, watching Anderson's retreating figure. She had once longed to marry him, but now she felt utterly confused. She didn’t want to live like this anymore.
