After about twenty minutes of waiting, all nervous about how the test would go and at the same time a bit happy that his strength was no longer the same, at least not until he was exposed to sunlight again, he heard an announcement.
"All recruits have arrived. Everyone, please head to the test area that corresponds to your group number."
During the twenty minutes of waiting, each line was appointed as a group. So like this, Erix's group became the 8th group since they were the 8th in line if numbered from the left.
Everyone was confused when they heard the announcement. They were currently in a foggy environment, so there was no way they would be able to find their way anywhere around there. Erix also had the same thought.
However, they weren't able to linger on the thought for long, because their surroundings suddenly started to change.
From the once foggy grey land, it turned into an ash-colored wasteland.
The new arena was brightly lit up, unlike the foggy ground. There was no sign of life/greeneries there and it looked more like an abandoned planet.
High up in the sky were two bright suns that were radiating tremendous joules of heat, as well as harsh ultraviolet radiation. It was obvious the place wasn't earth.
Well, that was the students' assumption after seeing the two suns up in the sky.
Everyone in the foggy environment was present in the ash wasteland.
They were all in the same position as they were back on the foggy ground.
Students were amazed at the sudden change of environment.
Though technology advanced greatly after the war, it still was very rare to find teleportation like how they just arrived in the ash wasteland.
While other students were busy observing the ash-colored wasteland, Erix was disheartened by the notification he got the very moment his body was exposed to sunlight.
[Host has been exposed to direct sunlight]
[All stats have gone back to normal]
The message came with a great setback in strength.
Well, it wasn't a setback, instead, it was just his body returning to normal.
His once light and nimble body became very pale and heavy.
Finally, his body was back to normal.
'Why? Why?' He thought. 'Why can't I have something good in my life? I'm tired of all the bullying and torture. Moments ago I was having the strength of an E-human, but now I'm back to toddler strength. Just how the f**k does this motherf**king system work? It's f**king annoying.'
[Host can be punished for talking bad of the system]
'Go to hell with your punishment, I don't care, bitch!' Erix subconsciously barked.
[Host is the definition of bitch]
[Warning!]
[Any more foul language from host, severe punishment would be initiated and death shall be inevitable]
Upon receiving that last message, Erix couldn't help but get afraid.
'A thing with the power to give and take away strength should be feared.' He thought. 'In the future, I will make sure not to provoke this bitc… I mean system.'
He was only nervous at first because he had his hopes on the system's bonus strength, but after losing it now, he wasn't only nervous again but afraid.
"I'm Leo Kane, your examiner for today's test. I will be leading group 8 to their test arena, so I expect everyone in group 8 to follow me."
The teacher assigned to Erix's group announced before walking into the wasteland.
The whole group followed Leo as he led them deeper into the wasteland away from other groups.
It wasn't only Erix's group but many other groups equally followed their examiners to their test areas.
The teacher, Leo, was a big muscular young man, with dark spiky blond hair, a full well-kept beard, and hazel eyes. He was probably in his middle twenties.
He had broad shoulders and stood tall with an impressive height of 6'5. He was wearing a regular muscle shirt that exposed his bulging pecs.
After a few minutes of walking, Leo came to a halt. And with a poker smile plastered all over his face, he turned around and said to the students.
"The test will be held here. "
Just as he said that weird-looking machines started appearing all over the wasteland in front of the students. It appeared randomly.
"Your first test will be with this strength machine. Just attack the red point on the machine with whatever attack or weapon you want, and it will give back a number, like this!"
Leo stepped back and took a fighting stance in front of the machine.
Then he punched the machine with such immense strength that it caused shock waves
The number on the machine started to skyrocket.
100 points
350 points
560 points
1037 points
4573 points
10028 points
55893 points
105899 points
210006 points
The number finally stopped at 210006 points. Leo's power level was 210006 and that was around the rank of an SS-human.
The students were all speechless as they stared at Leo in admiration.
"Sorry guys, I lost my balance due to the softness of the ground, otherwise, I could have shown a better example."
At that point, the student's jaws dropped even further than before.
They had a hard time believing what they had just heard.
"Well anyway, this is the second and final test. The agility and reflex test. Just stand here for a few moments and then the holograms of spikes will shoot at you with increasing speed. Your goal is to last as long as possible without being touched by the spikes. I won't be showing a demonstration for this test since we are low on time. Any questions before we start?"
The group just stared back in silence.
"By your silence, I assume you all are ready for the test. Stay in your line. I will call your names according to the line and please come up and take your test."
After that, the exam went by quickly. Each student would be taken by Leo to the test area where they would carry out their test.
Some students had really interesting abilities which made Erix more nervous.
As the line was decreasing, Erix was approaching more and more towards the test zone.
However, each time he took a step forward, his anxiety increased.
Since he now knew his life in the military would be nothing less than his normal life in middle school, he wondered if it was a good thing for him to even come here in the first place.
'Why? Why?' He thought. 'Why do I have to keep enduring these things? I'm tired of all the bullying shit! I just want all of it to end!'
He didn't remark on it, but the more he had the thought, the more he clenched his fist.
And at some point, he felt blood as his nails dug into his palm. That was when he came back to reality.
He then looked toward the ground and took another step forward. In just five students it will be his turn.
He knew what awaited him after the test, so he was afraid to take the test.
And as if someone noticed his stress, he came to him. He was taller than Erix, maybe 1.7 meters, and had dark-purple hair with bright red eyes. He was in the same line as Erix, just that he was behind him.
"Excuse me, are you okay?" He asked with a gentle voice. "Your fist is bleeding."
Erix didn't answer at first. Why would he? The boy would just act the same as the others once he sees his level. So he didn't see any reason to talk to him.
He probably just asked this for his well-being, so even though he would be regarded as trash later, he wasn't at this moment.
".... Yeah I'm good. Thanks for your concern." He finally replied after some moments.
"You know, you don't have to act accordingly," He let out a little chuckle. "Besides, my name is Shota Grill."
"Thanks for saying that, I'm Erix miller, glad to meet you," Erix answered but only looked down. He didn't face Shota even once the entire time.
"Pfff. Are you?" He asked for a while, laughing a bit. "You see, I don't wanna be the kind of guy who is picky at those things but you didn't look at me once since I talked to you."
"So sorry," Erix lifted his head and looked at him. Unlike him, the boy was handsome. "I didn't mean to be rude."
"Well, what I see isn't rudeness but fear." He said once he saw his eyes. It was clear that Erix was afraid. Why? He didn't know. "I won't do anything to you, even if you're a low-level."
'Bullies all say that at first.' Erix thought and looked at the ground again.
"Su-re," He then said.
Seeing him like this, Shota couldn't help but pity him. It was clear that he had lived in fear and was traumatized, which was why he was acting like that.
However, he didn't have time to think long about it because soon, it was their turn.
"Because of time, you would no longer be called individually. From now on, I will be calling in fours. Erix Miller, Shota Grill, Ambry Carto, and Natasha Heley, you four should come up and take your test."
Erix paled in nervousness the very moment he heard his name. He started moving towards the test area with Shota tailing him closely, and with two other students behind his back. One was a black-haired boy who looked quite grumpy, and a girl with a cold expression. The girl had long red hair tied up into a ponytail that went down her waist. She wore an expensive-looking black dress with a long nape that covered her back. From her actions and expression, she seemed like the strong, talented, and confident rich type. She was really pretty compared to most girls, which even further boosted her ego. The test they needed to do was in this order; Strength, Agility, and lastly, Reflex. "Okay, you four, follow me," Leo said the moment the group arrived in the test area and the group compiled. He took them a little further into the field, though not away from the whole group. They followed Leo until they were standing not too far from multiple machines. Leo stopped suddenly and did a
In this type of society, those who didn't have abilities were seen as disposable people. They were at the bottom of the food chain and were frequently bullied by the strong. So when Leo said Erix didn't have any ability, the reaction of the group was mixed. Some had a disgusted look while some showed no visible reaction at all. Erix gulped down his saliva and stepped forward towards the test arena with a slightly lowered face to avoid seeing the look on other people's faces. However, even with his head low, he could still hear sneer sounds coming from the students standing not too far from their group. "Who the hell is this filthy trash?." "I think maybe he is one of those kids that became orphans after the war." "I won't be surprised if he scores below 50 points, haha." Ambry also began to laugh and trash-talk Erix. He was already doing it before, but for fear that he might be someone with strong ability, he managed to hold back. But now that he knew he didn't have any abili
Going through a teleportal was something strange for someone like Erix. This was the first time he had gone through an actual teleportal. It wasn't like the one he took when he was on the bus. The process wasn't painful, instead, he felt dizzy once he came to the other side. It was as if his body was decomposing and recomposing itself immediately after. The academy was situated at the center of a special city where those in the military could live. Like this, they could be able to do other stuff that wasn't fight-related, other things like running convenience stores and health care operations. The war was quite traumatizing for a lot of people so many wished to have a somewhat peaceful and normal life where they wouldn't have to bother about their safety. Because of this, the city was built to be large to accommodate such people. But before he could admire the futuristic city a little more, Erix needed to catch up with his group. They had already walked a lot when he was dayd
They both left the school and entered the city. It was a lot bigger than Erix's old city. The buildings there were at least 3 times the size of a normal building in his place and the street was a lot more crowded. As they explored the city, Erix noticed Shota was always looking around the place in shock like something he once knew but had changed. 'Wait, he said he knew the city more. How come? Has he been here before?' Erix thought. "Wow, this place has gotten a lot more developed than last time," Shota finally said, eyes still roaming the whole place. "Ehmm, if I may ask, how come you have been here before? I never knew some students managed to come here before now." Erix asked, even though he wasn't sure Shota would reply... Shota didn't answer immediately, he first let out a deep long breath before saying. "Trust me, I really hate babbling about my family's name but I will say they were the reason I was here in the past. My family is one of the powerful low-key Original no
Having heard the boy, the first thing Erix did was to check his level. His prior worries evolved into fear when he realized the boy was a level 4. The boy had blonde hair that fell past his collarbone. His blue eyes looked completely void with terrible black bags under them. He had a pair of headphones hung around his neck. "Hi, there? Why were you standing out there for so long?...... Anyway, I'm Ronin Shin, but you can call me Rin, and nice to meet you." Rin said as he pulled out his hand for a shake. Erix quickly accepted the handshake. He didn't want to make a bad first impression. Who knows, the boy might bully him more if he does. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry, please enter." Rin apologized as soon as he realized his wrongdoing. He quickly stepped aside to let Erix in. For the second time that day, Erix was shocked beyond measure. He had a mixed reaction. One was surprised and the other was amused. 'What the f**k is wrong with the high levels here? First was Shota and
"There is no need for that, Rin. I will always be there for him," Shota said with a straight emotionless face. His countenance changed the very moment he realized Rin was from Norxus clan. Why? Nobody knew. Erix was flabbergasted by their strong reaction. He did not expect his story to resonate with them so deeply. "Fine guys, I can take care of myself. You don't have to worry about me," Erix said, trying to calm them down. "If you ever get into a problem, and Shota isn't there, please do let me know. We are roommates now, or maybe friends if you don't mind," Rin said, wiping off invisible tears from his eyes. In Erix's mind, he was thinking the word friends was a huge stretch. He would consider them as on the 'not gonna bite soon' list at most. He'd yet to grasp if they were being truthful or not. For now, he will try to stay on their good side and see how things play out, never letting his guard down a bit. "I once said it, don't worry about him, I will always be there f
The canteen was a large hall that was quite plain. It was filled with large tables that could seat four people on each side. There was no set of seats in the canteen meaning students were free to sit wherever they liked. However, that doesn't mean the high-level wouldn't set their own rules. Erix noticed that low levels sat next to other low levels while the high levels sat with the high levels. School had barely resumed, yet the social norms appeared to have already been established, just like they had been in his old school. Erix stood at the back of the last person in the queue. However, while waiting patiently for his turn, a boy came late into the queue. He nonchalantly nudged Erix out of line, and smuggled himself into the line. Erix was surprised by that abrupt push, and because he wasn't expecting something like that, he lost his footing and butt-kissed the floor. If it wasn't for the 1 point he added to his agility, he would have smooched the ground entirely. "Oh,
Erix's eyes widened the moment he saw the quest on the green screen. He's never hurt a fly before, let alone a human. 'This must be a joke, right?' Erix said to himself. 'What do you mean I have to kill him? How on earth am I gonna do that?' He asked the system but it didn't answer him. The system didn't give him any further information besides the killing quest. To confirm he wasn't seeing things, he decided to review it again and it turned out to be the same. As much as he was dying to pay back Bones for all he did to him, he'd never thought of killing him. Erix was someone with no ability, unlike Bones who had a blink ability, so that made him worried. But if the system really instructed him to kill Bones, then it must have ways of enabling him with it, Erix thought. 'Since it's the system's quest, I must do my best to accomplish it?' He mentally resolved. "Are you afraid? Come on, it's just a little time together like buddies. Alright, could you at least pay me your w

In the fifth city of the planet of demons, the darkness was absolute. The only source of light was the dimly red light coming from the sky. Amidst this eerie atmosphere, a young lady could be seen walking down the street. Her long red hair fluttered in the chilly wind as she made her way to her destination. The demons on the streets recognized her instantly. She was none other than Tania, the famous saintess of the tenth city. Her reputation preceded her, and the demons knew her for her unparalleled strength and her unwavering respect for the demon laws. They were surprised to see her walking down the street of the fifth city at this hour, and they couldn't help but wonder what brought her out of her abode. As Tania walked past them, she maintained a cold and expressionless face. Her demeanor was as stoic as ever, and it was impossible to guess what was going on in her mind. She continued walking, lost in thought until she finally arrived in front of a modern and decent bungalow.Wi
Lord Julian led Erix, Shota, and Orah up a grand staircase to the second floor of his regal mansion. The walls were adorned with paintings of famous battles and landscapes. Once they reached the top, he turned and gestured towards a door on the left."This will be your room," Lord Julian said. "I hope it'll suffice for your stay here."When they entered the room, they admired the room. The furniture was made from the finest wood on the planet and decorated with intricate engravings. There was a large three-poster bed, a vanity table with a mirror, and a fireplace to keep them warm during the colder nights.Shota nodded with admiration "It's habitable. Not bad."Orah examined the room carefully, old habits from his training, and started to make a list of any potential security risks. When he was finished, he said, "It's perfect. Better than that crappy rubbish from earlier."Lord Julian noticed the absence of Scott and raised an eyebrow. "Where is the servant goblin? Did he not wish to
The ruthless demon towered over the cowering goblin, its eyes glowing red in the dim light of the forest. The goblin had lost all of his comrades in the battle that had been raging for minutes and was now at the mercy of the demon that had led the attack."Please, spare me," the goblin pleaded, his voice trembling with fear. "I surrender."The demon let out a deep, thundering laugh. "Very wise of you, little goblin," Orah growled. "You have made the right choice. I will let you live. But there are consequences."Instead of killing the goblin, however, the demon did something unexpected. He looked the goblin straight in the eye and muttered words in a language the goblin did not understand.Suddenly, the goblin felt a strange sensation coursing through his body. He paled, but at the same time, a strange sense of loyalty blossomed within him. He looked up at Orah with wide eyes and suddenly realized what had just happened."You... you manipulated my mind just like your friend did with Ro
Erix heaved a sigh when he heard what Orah said. Orah had deliberately spoken of the rebellion to give him no choice but to agree with his words, and it had really worked.Definitely, they wouldn't let the goblins go after learning of their plan for fear of being exposed. Nevertheless, that doesn't mean they must kill the goblins to silence them. There are other ways to silence them without actually killing them.As much as Erix had the urge to kill the goblins for the sake of exp, he didn't want to miss the opportunity to gain loyal servants who undoubtedly would bring more benefits than just the immediate gain of exp. Thus, instead of complying with Orah's appeal, he acted differently."No, we won't kill them. They'll be useful to us if we have them as servants. I don't want us to waste them by killing them," Erix told his friends."How are we going to tame these losers anyway? Why don't we kill them now to save ourselves the trouble of doing that in the future?" Shota spoke up, soun
Erix and his friends delved deeper and deeper into the forest as they talked to relieve their boredom. However, that was only until they came upon a group of seven goblins, armed to the teeth. They stopped a short distance away from the goblins before they were seen. The goblins carried spears, bows, arrows, and many other vicious weapons."What should we do now? Go back?" Orah asked in a very low tone."These guys are armed. They are not like any other goblins we have encountered so far. Maybe we should leave before they see us," Erix asserted. In his opinion, he found it pointless to waste their strength fighting the goblins."Come on, it'll be fun to fight these losers. Only I can take them out at once," Shota said with excited eyes. However, seeing that none of his friends reciprocated this enthusiasm, he sighed and said, "Fine, if that's what you want, then... Ahhh!!!" Shota cried out and jumped up in startlement.A few seconds later, a rat ran out from under the ground where he h
In the portal room inside military base two, a purple opening appeared from which five soldiers emerged. The soldiers were the military team that had gone to look for the students who had gotten lost inside a beast planet. However, they had returned empty-handed, believing that the students were no longer there. They saw it with their own eyes as the students dissolved into red, invisible dust."Everyone, except Leo, can go back to their domains and rest. I'll report to the General Staff with Leo," General Stanley announced shortly after they arrived. They all nodded and went on their way. But all of them except Leo.General Stanley looked at Leo and asked, "Are you sure you want to do this? Roaming about Camuti alone is dangerous, you could even die there."Although he was always envious of Leo and his impeccable way of doing things, he didn't wish him death.Leo's face was cold and expressionless. He only nodded but said nothing."If you say so. Just know that you don't have to kill
Josh was a little startled when he heard that. He didn't know why, but Erix's words made him anxious and frightened. He tried to put up a calm facade, but that immediately crumbled as Erix approached him.Erix walked towards him calmly and with a cold expression. He didn't look excited or angry.'But he's only human,' a thought popped into Josh's head. 'What if this is only a technique to intimidate and disorient you? He may have super healing, but he's not invulnerable to death, so be smart. Kill him when you get the chance.'Josh's courage immediately picked up as this thought crossed his mind.He got into a fighting stance and laughed nervously, "Come on, little human. You can't scare me."Erix chuckled when he heard this. He pronto activated his light wing boots and transported himself behind Josh, invisible as a bullet."How about now, are you afraid of me?" Erix asked in a whisper, chuckling. He wasn't attacking Josh yet. He just wanted to scare him a little.Josh was terrified
