Are you Drunk?

"The building at the front is for the male survivors, the one at the back is for the females, opposite genders are not allowed into each other's living quarters, if you are found, you'll be punished accordingly," Eagan explained further.

" But what about married couples?" someone asked.

"The third building is for couples; you can stay with your family in one apartment; I hope you understand it's for security reasons. The doctor's quarters are right behind the infirmary; you won't have to travel daily between the living quarters and the infirmary. You can stay in the living quarters since we have fewer people around. Also, note that privileges will be given based on your contribution to the development of the base; at a later time, we'll discuss the rest of the rules with you all once I welcome you."

The people separated into different groups to get registered for the professions they were interested in. At the end of their registration, there were two doctors, four student doctors, three electricians, and five plumbers. Most young and able men and women volunteered to join the combat team, others to farm, kitchen, or the cleaning team. It was an excellent proportion, and Eagan was impressed at their progress.

"Young master..."

"I told you not to call me that, Nina."

"Sorry, my bad... I have sorted out the food in the warehouse according to its expiry date; we brought down the ones which are about to expire and moved up the ones with an extended expiry date, "Nina explained.

" Thank You, Nina; we'll do the same with the ones who had just brought in too."

The kitchen has an underground lift that transports the food directly to the base rooftop warehouse; just like the warehouse, only Eagan and Nina can use the ride.

Eagan and Nina walked toward the people hanging around.

" Before you go in to rest, we'll need to store the food in the kitchen according to their expiry date; the ones will long shelf life and long expiry date go in first, and the short ones go in last... Nina will monitor the storing process from the inside and will be here to direct you all; please get to work."

Nina directed them to place the food items into the storage; on the surface, the storage looked the same as any intermediate storage, and no one could detect the underground lift at the back of the warehouse.

She instructed them to place them directly on the lift surface; once everything had been stocked and everyone was out, she put her hands on the fingerprint lock that activated the lift. The ride opened and transported the newly stocked foods directly into the warehouse on the rooftop.

"Now that's done... the young master needs to relax for the rest of the day... hmm, do I forget something? ... ah yes... I haven't included how the toiletries will be distributed in the manuals; I'll have to type all the set rules out as soon as possible now that we have more people," Nina talked to herself as she went through her to-do list.

The first day of scavenging was a success; they were able to rescue a total of seventy- five people, bringing their number to one hundred and fifteen survivors; amongst them were three complete families staying at the family building, and the doctors and student doctors decided to keep at their quarters to get used to the environment.

Everyone had dinner and went in to relax after a long stressful week of hiding and running from the zombies.

The combat team was divided into groups, each taking turns to guard the base.

After the day's work, Eagan and Nina returned to their rooms at the top of the male quarters. Their floor was built with extra security, the steps leading to the bottom have reinforced doors, and the general elevator doesn't lead to that floor; instead, there is a separate elevator leading to the floor. That floor was built to keep whosoever stays there safe and secure from the outside world.

"Yo E, you still awake?" Silver called from outside his room; Eagan looked around to see if anything was lying around suspiciously, but finding nothing, he opened the door.

Silver came in with two cups of warm milk; he gave one to him and kept one for himself. They drank in silence while Silver stared into nothingness; he always does that whenever he is thinking about something, he drank the last bit of milk in his cup and sighed and spoke.

" Bruh... everything has changed, huh?"

" Yeah, looks like it, man."

" I would still be at that internet cafe at this time playing games, but now I dare not... how come you're so calm about this?"

Eagan shrugged and placed his cup on the bedside table " I don't know. Maybe because I know I have nothing to lose now if I die? or because I know fretting won't solve the problem? I've lost everyone, and no one will grieve me."

"What the hell, Bruh! Where did you put me? If you die, you will lose your best Bruh, or did you forget your best friend from diaper days? I'll drag you back from hell if you die on me!" Silver yelled while glaring playfully at Eagan

" Pfft... "You look funny; I'm not planning on dying anytime soon; this is the beginning, and it'll only get tougher from here; it might not look like it, but I have something to live for," Eagan explained solemnly.

"I hate you," Silver joked

"The feeling is mutual."

"Let's get stronger together, Eagan, let's kill those ugly things together, I've always been your brother, and until death, I'll always be your brother, " Silver said truthfully, sincerity written all over his face, not knowing how to respond to his best friend's words Eagan asked, "Are you drunk on milk?"

"Geez, you buzzer... I just poured out my heart to you, which is how you responded.

Eagan stood up and pushed his best friend toward the four playfully

" Go to sleep... early to bed, early to rise."

Silver raised his hands in surrender" OK! OK; I'm leaving!"

'Idiot was going to go all soapy on me soon,' Eagan chuckled as he closed the door behind him.

"Ugh, it's been a long day" he jumped on the bed and went to sleep.
