I Hope I Chose the Right Person

"Bro, wait up!"

A silver-haired teenager ran out of the school building alongside other students who had just finished their exams.

" Dude, can't you wait for me!"

" Run faster," His friend Eagan said without slowing down; he licked the lollipop he was holding and even increased his pace.

" Dammit, how are you, my best friend, you meanie!"

" You should have exercised more "

Silver is the nickname given to the silver-haired teenager Eagan's best friend and only friend.

"Why would I need to? I've got killer looks."

Silver pointed to himself to show his "killer looks."

Truthfully, he is good-looking; he and Eagan have always been on the list of the most handsome "princes" in their school.

Eagan is seventeen years old and is five feet and eight inches tall. He lives with his grandmother after the death of his parents; he has green eyes like a field of grass and black curly hair.

Eagan and Silver have been best friends since their diaper day and are practically inseparable.

Finally catching up with Eagan, Silver asked.

"How was the exam?"

They continued walking side by side.

"It was easy," Eagan answered. His voice sounds Monotonous but has a hint of playfulness to it.

" Why do I even bother asking? Being the top student in school, the exam was easy while I struggled to remember the answer to some questions."

"Stop spending your time at the internet cafe and read instead."

Silver, used to his best friend's monotonous way of talking, shook his head. Unlike Silver, all Eagan needed to do was listen in class or read through a book once; he'll never forget anything he's read or seen, so even though they often spend their time together playing games, Eagan has a better academic performance than he does.

"Let's go to the cafe and play some games to cool off, "Silver suggested, and Eagan rolled his eyes playfully.

"Unlike you, young Master Silver, I have other plans."

" Pfft ... what plans could you probably have?"

" I have a part-time job to be at."

"You got a job?"

"Yes"

"Whattttt? Why would young Master Eagan get a job? That's apart; I cannot understand what goes on in the brains of genius like you... ughh you a killjoy I was planning on lazing around with you all summer" Silver rambled on and on about what he had planned for their summer, to which Eagan paid no attention.

They separated; Eagan went to his part-time job, and Silver went to the internet cafe.

" You are here," said Bar, the owner and manager in charge of the dinner. Eagan part-time is cleaning out a table so the diner can sit as the place is packed up more than it used to be.

" Yes, I'll get changed immediately" Eagan went into the staff area and changed into his work clothes.

" Please join Dave in the kitchen. He needs an extra hand."

Although when Bar employed bar, it wasn't because they were short-staffed, it was because he just liked the young man; now he was grateful that he had used him as they'd never had this kind of overflow in their dinner before, and it began three nights ago. Most of the staff had already been overworked and were tired. Having one more person was a great relief.

Eagan went about his job diligently; he helped Dave in the kitchen with food prep; he wasn't new to meal preps as he always helped his grandmother cook t home, and although it was his first time working like this, he didn't feel tired, all thanks to him always keeping in shape.

He cut, diced, chopped, and minced the vegetables, and sometimes he'd stir fry under Dave's watchful eyes.

After a long evening at work, it was finally time for the dinner to close

" Good work today, everyone!" Bar praised his staff as he always does and also used the opportunity to introduce the new addition to the dinner

"Everyone meet Eagan; he'll assist Dave in the kitchen."

"Hello, everyone, " Eagan greeted firmly but politely

" Hello and welcome; I'm Cole."

"Hello, I'm Nora"

"I'm...

"Alright, now that we've all said hello, we should head home."

Eagan went into the staff area, changed out of his work clothes, and was about to leave when someone called out to him.

" Yo! Eagan, you left your dinner," the middle-aged man, Dave, handed him a plastic bag with the packed food.

" Umm, I don't want..." He was cut off before he could finish his statement, " Don't be shy. It's tradition here to get dinner before going home," Dave urged, and Eagan said his thanks, took the bag and left.

'I'll probably give it to Silver since Glam would have made dinner,' he thought as he walked home

' Speaking of that blockhead, he's probably still in the internet cafe.'

He took out his phone from his pocket and messaged his best friend, "Go home blockhead

to which he got a reply almost immediately

" I just got home, moron."

Eagan scoffed and kept walking.

Around the corner that leads to his block, he hears a female voice. "Please help me" he looked forward and saw a girl with blue hair, a white dress, and black sandals. He looked at her and noticed that her heels were almost the same age as his. Out of curiosity, he walked toward the girl and asked her, "Hello, miss, are you okay?"

He is well aware that what he is doing right now is dangerous and stupid, talking to a total stranger in the middle of the night with no one around.

" Hello, sir," the girl curtsied, and Eagan was taken aback

" Can you please help me? I'm lost and hungry and couldn't find my way back," the girl explained with teary eyes and a soft voice

' don't fall for it, is an act, don't fall for it an act ' he kept repeating in his head, but his mind had other thoughts as he handed her the plastic bag containing the food.

" Here, you can eat this; hmm, where are you going to?"

She bowed and said her thanks as she collected the food and began to eat immediately.

"Hmm, aren't you scared I'll poison you or something?"

The girl choked on the food in her mouth and drank the water together in the plastic bag.

" Did you? " She asked

"Not"

"Then I don't have to worry, right?"

She devoured the food hungrily, and Eagan watched her with amusement. When she was done eating, he offered to call her a cab, and she agreed.

" Where are you going to?"

" I'm going to X street"

" That far from here; how did you get here?"

" I came to J city with my friends for an event, and I lost them during the show, then I found out my phone's battery is out."

" Oh, sorry about that, so who will you meet on X street?"

" We are lodged in the hotel."

" Alright, the driver will be here soon," Eagan said, and they both fell silent, not knowing what to say to each other.

The driver soon arrived at the location.

" Are you Mr. Eagan? " The driver asked, and Eagan answered politely... That's me."

He ushered the girl into the Taxi and was about to shut the door after giving the address and the money to the driver.

" I'm Lyra, and thanks for helping me."

" Eagan, you are welcome to please get home safely."

she removed the Wristwatch she had on her wrist and gave it to Eagan " It's a thank you present for helping me."

" You don't have to, ma'am."

" I insist"

Eagan took the wristwatch and said thanks as the car drove away.

Back in the Taxi, Lyra sighed and muttered to herself, " I don't have much time left. I hope I have chosen the right person."
