State Ceremony

The thrilling morning had begun. Although he had made plans for his escape, President Rambe's heart was beating fast. His cold, sweaty hands clasped his wife's tightly. They looked at each other for reassurance.

"You don't have to do this, dear. You and our children should just leave here. There is a safe place prepared by Mr. William Smith," President Rambe said.

"You forget that we made a promise before God that we would be together through thick and thin. We will rise and fall together." Desty emphasized her last sentence.

President Rambe closed his eyes briefly before replying, "If this plan fails, we will most likely all die. Our struggle will come to a screeching halt. If you and our two children survive, at least someone can continue our fight for the people of Pauritia."

Desty shook her head. "I may be the first lady of Pauritia, but before that, I was your wife. If I die, then I will die with the satisfaction of dying while holding your hand. And the children are like that."
