Trying To Escape The Building In One Piece

Inside the QUAX's arms was powerful ammunition that was sure to rip a human nearly to shreds as well as energy beams that were even more powerful than the ammunition but limited in usage.

We weren't supposed to use them on ourselves as they were dangerous, but in a situation like the one before me, we didn't have any choice.

Thrrriiihh~ Thrrihhh~

With multiple shots, I took an infected down who got blasted to pieces with blood splattering on the white walls.

The sound of the shots was very low as the arm was equipped with a silencer that reduced it.

Thrrriiihh~ Thrrihhh~

Behind me, BJ also aimed at the oncoming infected and shot at multiple of them.

Due to the heavy power of the ammunition, the walls and even the floors had been riddled with holes.

In a bit, all eleven infected roaming the corridors now had their body parts scattered across the corridors. Steam slowly erupted from different corners that were riddled with blood and holes.

The door was solidly shut behind us, and I had a clue the others were watching through the CCTV monitors.

Though I didn't like Mr. Timmy, I hoped they would all be safe. The next step was to get downstairs, but instead of the stairs, we went towards the elevator.

Unlike the previous time when we were unable to make use of the elevator due to the high population, this time, no one was around here.

We got in and noticed there was blood on the walls and bloody handprints, but there was no infected.

Ting~

The elevator began to descend after we input the number of the first floor.

As we went downwards to the first floor, we could hear screams and weird incoherent noises, which told us that the building was still very much infested.

Finally, the wait was over, and the doors opened, ushering us into the first floor.

"I'll be damned," BJ's jaw nearly dropped the instant we moved out of the elevator.

It was impossible to count the numbers...

Outside the elevator, a horde of infected charged toward us.

Staring up ahead at the exit of the building, which was at the northwest corner, I realised it wouldn't be easy to get there.

The best thing would have been to get back inside the elevator, but we were still going to have to confront them.

"Kychbbblllll!"

Within the array of purple mist emitting from their figure, incoherent noises could be heard, too.

We looked at each other, and I saw steel determination in BJ's eyes.

We didn't know if we were going to survive, but first, we had to fight.

"I'll open a path. You watch my back in case we get surrounded," I said to BJ before charging forward.

Thirrriiiihhh~ Thirrriiiihhh~Thirrriiiihhh~Thirrriiiihhh~

Low sounds of ammunition release were heard as I stretched forth my hand and fired powerful shots at the oncoming infected.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Pop!

Some infected were instantly blasted to smithereens as the projectiles shot out and did well to remove everything in their path.

Pop!

Some of them were decapitated by the powerful shots, while others got their heads blasted to pieces like they were watermelons.

BJ followed behind me and took shots at the infected coming from the sides as well as the ones who circled around.

Despite the strength of the battle QUAX arms, it still looked like the number of infected hadn't reduced.

"Kiiooouhhh!"

"Kiiooohhh!"

Halfway through the path that led to the exit, the infected had piled up like crazy. They were now so many blocking the path that they had stacked upon each other, trying to get to us.

Seeing how over twenty of them were climbing atop each other in a frenzy up ahead and even more than twenty behind and around the stacked-up infected, I yelled something at BJ.

"I'm going to use the energy beam!"

BJ's eyes widened a bit before he quickly turned around and squatted.

Placing my left hand on the robotic arm covering my right arm, my face turned really serious as I tapped on something.

I held the battle Quax arm tighter as a blue beam gathered at the hand area.

The stacks of infected were only two steps away from me at this moment when I released this beam of energy.

Booomm~

It shot forwards with intensity attracting all of the infected up ahead into its glow before exploding.

The first floor quaked from the intensity of the blast, and a massive hole appeared in the wall where the exit was located.

I got blasted backwards due to the recoil and felt my head ring intensely as I landed on my back.

"Dustin!"

I couldn't hear his voice due to the ringing in my ear, but seeing the movement of Emma's mouth, I could tell he was calling my name.

"Come on, man, we gotta go," BJ voiced out once more as he helped to get me on my feet.

My head was still ringing, but fortunately, a lot of the infected here had been vaporised from the energy beam.

A clear path to the exit had been created in front of us, and BJ put my hand across his shoulder as we hurried to get out of this place.

We had already faced the first battle. Now, we needed to fight our way through the others.

The streets were in chaos. Everywhere, people screamed and ran as the infected came after them with outstretched hands and bared teeth.

The purple mist was even more concentrated outside due to their sheer numbers.

"Everyone, please get to somewhere safe and take shelter! We are controlling the situation!" Those were the words of the cops as they shot at the infected and also advised the people to get back into their houses.

However, their advice was in vain as more people kept on parading around and the infected kept on multiplying.

Also, they seemed drawn by noise as a lot of them ran toward the cops. We passed banks, hospitals, and shops that were being looted.

Violence broke out in different places as the cops were also trying their best to keep normalcy at bay. The fear and tension in the air weren't helping.

Some of the officers had even gotten infected, and the living ones had to shoot their former colleagues.

So as not to waste our ammunition, BJ and I made sure to keep to the shortcuts and corners that kept us away from the streets.

We avoided dark alleyways as there was no way to know if an infected was coming toward us.

While we could have obtained a vehicle, the roads were blocked already. It would be unwise to use a car.

At a corner, we stopped, and I brought out my phone to call Bella, who immediately picked up.

"Dustin! Where are—"

I cut her off. "We are close to your home, and we need your help. There might not be time for me to call, so we need someone to open the gate for us as soon as we arrive."

"Alright, babe!" I could hear the glee in her voice.

"I'll be here with my dad!"

"Okay." I hung up immediately, and after giving BJ a nod, we continued on our journey. A few minutes later, we got to Bella's street.

"Come on, we are close!"

Suddenly, an infected ran towards me from a building on the right, and I recognized the postman who always gave me a greeting anytime we saw each other.

He was a single father with two kids, and I remembered him to be a good man.

As I shot him in the neck, which caused him to fall, I hoped he would be in a better place.

'I hope his kids are safe...' While I also internally wondered about this, there was really nothing I could do at the moment.

"Faster! They are coming behind us!"

I looked behind and was shocked to see the horde of infected pursuing us.

"Where the hell did they come from?" It felt like they had just appeared out of nowhere.

We ran faster than we had ever imagined. There was no way we could stay and fight them. I had taken a peek at the remaining ammunition and wanted to make sure some were left just in case.

I also used one energy beam so only two more usages were left.

BJ had around the same amount of ammunition left, but he still had three energy beam usage.

An infected suddenly appeared from my right, and I proceeded to swing the battle QUAX arm at her face.
