We Are Screwed!

"At least, listen to your husband, Agnes," BJ's father said with a calm tone.

"We both agreed to join the boys in heading out to make sure they are safe. Since you disagree, at least let's hear the news and see at least what's going on." He added.

"What's in the news?" Spittle flew around.

"It's the same thing every day. The military is on its way. Where are they? You are just saying this because you aren't sending your daughter!" Mrs Agnes wasn't having it.

My girlfriend, the never-quiet one, snorted. "Believe me, I'll be the first getting out of this house if I've got the opportunity."

For a few seconds, her words served as silence in the room.

"Besides, Dustin and BJ are already making plans, and I doubt anyone can stop them," Using the window of opportunity, she turned on the TV.

"Esther, turn the TV on," She voiced out.

Tinnnhh~

The massive screen television was turned on automatically by the AI after she gave the instruction. The news channel came on instantly, and everyone stared at the large screen before them.

"Reports are coming in from across the globe about widespread chaos and destruction. In other countries, the outbreak has caused virtually all forms of transportation to cease functioning, leaving many people stranded in their homes."

At that moment, different footage was shown. We watched as a drone flew over bridges that were filled with cars that couldn't move any longer.

There were no passengers in there, and the only people moving were large hordes of infected. Another clip was shown of someone trying to outrun an infected horde with his bicycle, but he was soon set upon by them.

There were millions of them out there on the streets, moving in waves.

Other people tried to leave their homes, too.

Footage of different areas, along with those uploaded on the Internet, kept getting displayed

"I'm on the street now, but I've only encountered three infected," a pale-skinned man with a brown moustache said.

"The clouds look purple," He angled his camera to the sky, and though it was for a few seconds, I saw that the clouds no longer looked white.

"My goal is to get food—fuck! They are right in front of me!"

The man began to run, and I held my breath, hoping he was going to escape. Unfortunately, a group of infected were also before him.

"Gruuuuugh!"

Though not clear, their groans were deep and guttural, like a growling animal.

As they pursued the man, we could hear them grunting and shuffling their feet, as if their movements were laboured and slow.

They also caught up with him, but the footage was stopped before they tore into him.

The news broadcast showed the female broadcaster's face.

"We are urging all citizens to take the utmost precaution and stay indoors at all times.

According to information from the authorities, shelters are currently being created to usher citizens in where there will no longer be a lack of food until the infection predicament is completely dealt with.

Military groups will be going from street to street in order to help move uninfected citizens to these shelters safely.

Be aware of your surroundings and keep a watchful eye out for any suspicious activity.

"The government is doing all it can to get this situation under control and bring back some semblance of order to the world. However, we all must remain calm—"

A scream erupted from the female broadcaster's background, and I widened my eyes in shock as a purple-coloured man came out of nowhere and rushed toward her.

"Arrgh!" she screamed in terror, but the infected grabbed her by the shoulders and dragged her away from the camera.

All we could see was the table, which blocked the view of the infected attacking her. However, blood splashed upwards like a fountain.

From my peripheral view, I saw my mum drag Sofia to her and close her eyes with her hands, but my sister was stubborn and pulled herself from her.

The camera stayed focused on the table as the sound of her screams and the infected's growls filled the air.

Thankfully, the attack was over in moments as the screen suddenly turned blank, but the horror of what had happened was etched in everyone's mind.

"We are screwed," Collins said.

The broadcast had practically shown that no one was safe from the infected even inside buildings. I and BJ were well aware of this since the branch of QUAX Technologies we worked in currently had lots of them roaming within.

Fortunately, they had barricaded this place properly, so I was sure no infected would be able to easily get in or even get in at all.

However, I wasn't going to sit and just watch.
