Manchester skimmed through most of the documents quickly, he would have loved to see an enhanced image but he couldn't enlist the system's help to get that done right now. "Can you tell me more about the eyewitnesses? Who are they and what did they see?" Detective Jameson nodded, "Sure," he said, "We had three individuals who managed to escape, two of them were employees and one of them was a customer." While speaking, he pulled out a small notebook from the same drawer that he took the file from. "The first employee was a waitress, and she retorted seeing one of the masked individuals shoot a customer, but she didn't get a good look at his face. The best information we got from her was that he had a distinctive tattoo on his left hand." Jameson paused and flipped to the next page, "The second employee, a chef, his reports were useless because he remembers their voices and nothing else." "So aside from the tattoo, was there any other significant information from any

Manchester did not spend a lot of time at the restaurant when he went back. He just wanted to do a second survey with the information that he got from the lady he spoke with. He knew he'd have to take his time and go through all the files before coming up with a bunch of deductions, but for now, he wanted to understand where the culprit had entered the restaurant, especially since Sarah claimed that the attack started from upstairs. After a brief survey, he asked the cops to return to their units while he stayed back at one of the coffee bars in town. He reached out to the customer and the chef and asked if any of them could meet up with him, or if he could meet them wherever they were. Unfortunately, neither of them lived close by, the chef left the country after the incident as he was too scared to stay back in Helyn Burg. As for the customer whose name appeared on is list, she lives in a neighbouring city and was at work when Manchester called. Our young detective was left dis

As Manchester got to the restaurant, he sat alone in the car for a few minutes, taking deep breaths and predicting the outcome of this date. He doesn't know what she looks like, as this is a blind date and couldn't wait to find out. Firstly, he sent her a text message asking if she had arrived since it was two minutes past seven, and he knew ladies loved to be there on time. She texted him back almost immediately saying that she was already inside the restaurant waiting for him. She also described her location at the restaurant and added she couldn't wait to see him. And at these words, Manchester's heart started to beat faster. "I hope this is not a mistake," he muttered, and mustered a bit of courage before stepping out of the car with the bouquet in his hand. "Oh dear lord," he prayed, "I hope I don't run into anyone I know today, I can't start to explain why I'm taking flowers to another woman." As soon as Manchester entered the restaurant, so many people stared at him from

"Wouldn't you go after her?" the old lady taps Manchester on the shoulder, "You look like you've got some explaining to do, to her and your wife, so get on with it." With those words, she returned to the table where she was seated before the drama started. Manchester other hand stood up briskly and ran out of the restaurant without sparing a glance at the customers staring at him. He hoped that she hadn't left already, and luckily she was just about to get into a car when he caught up with her at the parking lot. "Valerie... "What do you want?" She snapped, posing her bag at Manchester like a defensive weapon. "Look, I am going to make this easy for the both of us, just let me go peacefully without any more drama, and I will pretend that we never met. And, Mel will not her about this, deal?" "Mel and I are no longer together," he blurted in response, "So telling her wouldn't change a thing, she's engaged to someone else." Valerie paused for a second, her hands drop

“Did you forget something, sir?” Asked the Nanny, she didn’t expect Manchester to be back so soon. “No,” Manchester replied, and as much as he wanted to wear a disappointing look, Manchester let out a warm smile. “Plans got cancelled.” He added, “So I guess you are free to leave anytime now, I’ll take care of him from here.” The nanny stayed a few minutes more to get some things done. Since Nelson was asleep, she prepared one of his favourite oatmeals and bottled it up in a flask so that Manchester wouldn’t have to do all that when the little human eventually woke up again. As soon as she left, Manchester took out his laptop and placed it on the dining table, if there was anything he could do to take his mind off tonight’s mess, then it was to get back into the case. With all the files arranged on the table before him, Manchester took out the pictures that Detective Jameson had talked about. “System, can you enhance this picture?” Manchester requested. He couldn’t help b

Manchester’s eyes widened as he stared at the image on his phone. Mel, his wife was smiling brightly, with her arms wrapped around her new fiancé, and both parties were partially naked on the bed. The caption read, “Not only is he rich as fuck, but good as fuck in the act!” Manchester was seconds away from tossing his phone across the room, a mixture of shock, anger, sadness and jealousy all washed over him at the same time. And the fact that she was still rubbing it in his face made it harder to swallow. He reopened the page and took a closer look at the man she was with. It’s the first time he has seen the man’s face so clearly after that night at Mrs Langley’s birthday party. In a bid to know more about him, Manchester saved the images and edited them with his camera settings. He then cropped Mel out of the picture, leaving the man’s chest and face, just like a mini passport photograph. He then transfers a copy of the image to his laptop and logs into an application software

“She was very indifferent, to say the least,” Valerie replied while trying to free up her hair from Nelson’s grip. “Don’t do that,” Manchester scolded the little human and tried to take him from Valerie, but she didn’t let him.“He is just a little baby, jeez.” She mused, and then returned to the topic they were discussing,“I’ll text that to you on my way to the airport alright, I have to go now!” Without further ado, she played a little bit more with Nelson and left for the airport immediately after.Manchester’s mind reeled with thoughts as he wondered what Mel might have told Valerie. He believed that Mel would make herself the victim and make him look like the monster, but Valerie didn’t seem to hold anything against him. “Alright kid, time to go back inside. Daddy has to work.”Manchester went back into the house, finished his coffee, and waved goodbye to his son who waved back without crying. He got into the car and zoomed off, ready to face the challenges of the second day

Tracking the young man down took most of the day. Sophia had to return to their department in other to make use of their computer to find the young adult’s location, or at least where he lives. To do that, she enlisted the help of several IT expert in the department to retrieve some confidential data from his profile, along with support from the company that created the platform where the young man was found. Eventually, they learnt that he lived in Helyn Burg, but at this time it was already past seven pm, and Manchester needed to get back home as soon as possible. Before leaving, Manchester called Detective Jameson on the phone and sent him the location of the young man whom they suspected to be involved in the case. The courtroom was thick with silence, the kind of silence that weighed in Manchester's chest like a damped wood. His heart raced with every passing second as they all waited for the judge to come in. Once she was in, Manchester was directed to the defendant's table; he took a deep breath and held tightly onto its frame while tapping his foot on the floor at intervals. Across the room, Cain sat with a smug, his arms were folded as he anticipated the result. The judge leaned forward, her expression unreadable as always. She adjusted her spectacles, and after the introduction was made by the bailiff, she read from the paper on her desk. "After a thorough examination of Paternity test conducted by an independent laboratory, and in consideration of testimonies and submitted documentation, the court finds that the child in question, Nelson Wilfred Duke, is not the biological son of Mr Manchester Duke." These words hit Manchester on the chest like an atomic bomb, he felt the explosion in

When he was close by, Roger noticed a car that had just driven out of where he was going, and he couldn't help but wonder if Valerie was inside it, and with who? But then again, he just kept driving until he parked at the front of her apartment and stepped out. This was the first time he visited her without a gift, not even a flower. He knew that she would ignore them anyway and probably not even let him into the house. Ding dong The sound of the doorbell was heard from inside as Roger pushed the button. He took a deep breath and waited until she unlocked the door and opened it "Valerie," he muttered with his jaws dropped in shock, not because he hadn't seen her in a while, but because there was a child in her hand. 'could she have been married without my consent, long enough to have a child already. But it's only been two months since I last saw her, so this can't be her child, then whose?' "What are you doing here?" Valerie frowned, "Who gave you my address... oh damm

While driving away from Valerie's apartment, Manchester noticed that another car drove in and parked just at the same spot where his car had been. Out of curiosity, he decided to linger a little to see who it was. However, he failed to realise that he was in the middle of the road, even though it wasn't a highway. He kept an eye on the car until a figure emerged from the driver's seat, a man. Before he could begin to ponder who this figure was, a car honked very loudly behind him, causing Manchester's body to jerk involuntarily. "Damm that's too loud." He muttered, before gently releasing the break and moving out of the way. He would have loved to stay a little bit longer to get a glimpse of the person's face, but he remembered his appointment and just drove off. "It might just be someone coming to find out why she moved from her parent's place." He thought. ****** Earlier, in another apartment twenty minutes drive away from Valerie's home, a young lady stood at the door, block

"Here goes nothing," Manchester muttered as he proceeded to press the doorbell after standing at the door for nearly five minutes. There was no reason to be nervous, but Manchester was, and that was why it took him five minutes to press the doorbell that was right in front of him. "Just a second!" Valerie's voice answered from inside. While waiting for her, Manchester took a deep breath; he really hoped that she hadn't moved out of her parent's house just because of Nelson because that would surely make him feel terrible. He just had to wait to confirm from her first before jumping to a conclusion. "Good morning!" Valerie greeted with a warm smile as she opened the door to let Manchester in. She was still dressed in pyjamas, and her hair was still a mess, but she had a cup of brewing hot tea in her right hand. "Classic," Manchester thought. "Uhm, you live here...now? I thought I was coming to pick you up and take you home before leaving Nelson with you." Manchester posed his qu

With one interview after another, Manchester was finally able to get to the bottom of the case, at least most of it. It turned out that what Alex told him was entirely true, and every one of them didn't know the grandmaster made them such dirty tasks. But still, they had a hand in kidnapping and murdering the manager and must face the law. The consequences of their actions range from a life sentence to a death sentence and is dependent on the magistrates. Through the Interrogation session, Manchester learned about how these four met and became friends even before they met the grandmasters. These four had a very dark history and robbed a few stores and restaurants on their own. They claimed that it was the only way they could survive at the time and that the only reason they gave in to working for the grandmaster was because he accommodated them in his home and promised to protect them. One thing that Manchester still didn't have an answer to is the restaurant owners were abou

"Okay, now that I am done drinking, and not getting drunk, I can deal with these ones," Manchester muttered, bracing himself for one of the longest Interrogation sessions he's going to have in a long time. Speaking with all four men individually and compiling their words to find out if they correlate seems like a lot of work, but he had two hours before it's six o'clock, so why not start now? "Alex," Manchester started with a smile, his eyes fixed on the young man who didn't believe he'd catch the others. "Let me start by saying, I did it! I caught your friends, all of them, in one piece. I don't just say things, I get them done." Alex sighed, his face fell with embarrassment; perhaps this was when the reality hit him in the face; he had been caught, and so were his friends. "Did you attack Hi n BYE on the evening of ... "Yes," Alex replied before Manchester could finish his words, "Yes, I did." Shocked by how quickly he responded, Manchester glanced at his partner, Sop

They arrived at the station, and all three men were immediately detained; Manchester couldn't believe how quickly he completed this task. Even Sophia Patel's disappearance took longer than a case that appeared to be more difficult. "I can't believe it," Detective Jameson uttered. This is probably the hundredth time he had made that statement, and each time he did, Manchester smiled. "It's for the people," Manchester said, sipping from the bottle of wine that stood on the table separating him from Jameson. He's had quite a hectic day, from the court to fighting with Alex to catching the others. Overall, the entire police department detained twelve men, excluding the trio that Manchester was focused on finding. He immediately wanted to rush in for Interrogation, but Jameson pulled him from the shoulder and forced him to the cafeteria. Bought some bottles of wine, one for himself, one for Manchester and one extra. "Relax," he said, "Seventy per cent of the work is done; no need to

With a deep breath, Manchester dashed into the grand hallway, the echo of gunfire behind him fading beneath the pounding of his own heartbeat. His mind was locked. Every inch of this place screamed luxury, from the paintings in gilded frames to the marble floors, even a chandelier. But Manchester knew could smell the criminal acts that purchased them all.// System Notification: Six remaining hostiles detected. Two on the ground floor and four in the basement.//“System, keep me updated. I don’t want any surprises.” Manchester muttered, bracing himself for the fight he was about to experience. He had faith in the system's strength, but at Level 1, he believed that most of his efforts would be required. As if in response to his statement, the system highlighted a figure moving around the corner just ahead, so Manchester lowered his body and silently advanced. The man stepped out with a silenced pistol, but Manchester was faster. He grabbed a bronze statue from a side table and slammed

"Number thirteen, Haven Crescent," Manchester muttered as he peeped through the partially rolled-down car window. His eyes glance at the apartment, and the house number that hung near the gate. The apartment was magnificent, simple and classic from the outside, it was obvious that whoever lived there wasn't struggling, and then it occurred to him that Alex had said that it wasn't their home. With a long sigh, Manchester rolled up the tinted glass and walked out of the car. He wasn't alone; two cops were with him, and there were four others on standby in case of emergency. Manchester tapped the doorbell sign on the gate and waited; the gateman, a man in a white shirt and pants, stepped out and asked. "Who are you looking for?" Manchester flashed his ID immediately and replied, "Detective Duke, I would love to speak with the house owner immediately. If he delays or declines, we have a permit to search the house and wouldn't hesitate to do so." At his words, the gateman sneered, s
