Zoe didn’t answer the question. For that matter, she couldn’t have if she wanted to. The tranquilizer was working its way through her and her eyes were slowly closing before she drifted into slumber. She was thin, weak, and devoid of her once graceful demeanor.

He touched her cheek lightly, only to find her responding with tears. She was already asleep, but she was still subconsciously rejecting his touch.

An intense pain filled Mason’s heart at that moment. He looked at her for quite some time before rising slowly and walking away.

All of the lights in the ground-floor living room were turned on. There was a newborn in the house and that meant the servants were busy cleaning up the place and making herbal soups. Everyone had their own duty to perform.

He treaded slowly when he walked downstairs. Lowering his head, he looked at the new carpet and felt as if he could still smell the blood in the air. His hands trembled out of nowhere. He took out a cigarette, but left it unlit.
