_ Who are you?

Somehow, the statement made him stand abruptly up.

“I am not going anywhere outside. Those things are right out of the door. Why not just wait until help comes?” He argued.

He heard the grunt which came from her in reciprocation to his words. “Tell me, Danny, how did you suddenly turn from the intrepid one to this scaredy cat?”

To that, he had no answer. Never had he been a fearless guy so whatever she was saying was as alien to his ears as this reality he found himself.

“You heard the lady, the zombies can't move in daylight. If we go in the morning, we stand a better chance to keep alive.” she raised and dropped her shoulders, her chest heaving in apparent frustration.

He heard the broadcaster but that point did not serve enough to make him any less scared.

“But it's dim in the building!” he found the nearest excuse that came to his mind. “What building is this anyway?” he blurted, turning to swivel his neck around as though he was just noticing his surroundings.

The widening of the girl’s eyes left him perplexed. “Gee Danny, this better be a joke. We met in this clubhouse, booked a room, and had a one-night stand. The sex was great, you fuck so well that my drunken self could even remember every single moment after sobering up. Then, this shit happened. We did not know at first because we were locked up in here banging each other so badly.” she gave a sexy lick of her dry lips, her saliva setting a little moisture to the cracked flesh.

She continued her speech while Danny could only listen with bafflement, his eyes refusing to blink. “The next morning, I was in a rush because I had a job interview to attend to but when you peeked out of the window, you saw the nasty state of the street and that delayed my getting out of the door. Whilst wondering still, you were the smart one who turned on the TV just in time enough for us to see the news informing all civilians to stay indoors until the cause of the problem was detected. The scenes of the scourge were shown just like it was a few minutes ago and we both knew shit had gotten real.” she paused, looked into Danny’s eyes but his confusion could only make him look away.

Anyway, the girl continued still. “Now, the very much promised explanation came,” she pointed at the screen again. “We got our explanation and you after the incident we had with the zombies are still acting like you are some dumb ass idiot?”

Did she really need to be so vulgar? Why some girls are barbarians in innocent skin?

“What incident?” Danny questioned, the annoyance he felt was starting to surface in his voice as he snapped the question at her.

“We were confused after waiting for 12 hours, hungry too. You decided to go scout for something to eat and I who was afraid wanted to stay back. But you opened the door and bingo! One big bad party not zombie was right outside of our door.” she pointed at the body on the floor. “You led it in when you ran back in fear and we both struggle with killing it.”

Why was she referring to a person as ‘it’? Danny thought.

Maybe because they are not a person anymore but zombies. He further answered himself.

He couldn't help but to gulp after following her and looked at the headless body on the floor which looked more horrendous now. The good part was that the zombie worms were absent now. They seemed to have evaporated or something but when he remembered the broadcaster’s words– that the zombie worms could not survive for long without a host, he knew they were dead but he wasn't expecting for them to have disappeared.

“So, how— how did we kill it?” he asked as his hands scratched the hairs on his head. They were itchy a little.

He just referred to a person as ‘it’ also. It was not a person but a zombie, he reminded himself yet again.

There was silence from the girl as though this was just too unbelievable for her hearing. After a synonymous rolling of her eyes and shaking of her head, she answered Danny’s question.

“That.” she pointed in another direction in the room.

It was there that Danny found a dagger he did not notice lying lazily on the floor in a corner of the room with dried and rusty blood stains over it.

“You had that on you. It was well hidden in the pocket of your jean. Even I had not noticed. But I guess I probably didn't because I was drunk— and horny.”

She was using the words that renders him uncomfortable yet again.

“Left me wondering just who you are to carry a dagger around.” her hands had gone under her chin as she thoughtfully asked Danny with eyes dimmed with suspicion.

Who was he?

He knew himself. What he did not know was who this Danny was. Certainly, this was not his Danny, not his body, not his personality that she had described.

Just who was this and why was he in their body? In their reality?

“Well, I don't know.” came his answer which came out as not less than a whisper.

Again, the girl is started shaking her head still. “Tsk, tsk, tsk,” she clicked her tongue. “Then I guess the fall which made you pass out has indeed gave you amnesia. Such a waste of that masculine body and manly personality you had before. Now, you are to me like a dunce sexy guy.” she finished.

Arghh, he should kill her. He needed to kill her. She was worst, bad, nasty, sassy— name it!

Zombies couldn't be worst. They could never!

He was about to say something when her running mouth spoke again. “Don't tell me you don't remember my name,”

Was it a question or a statement?

He had no idea but to quit standing like a dummy whilst allowing her step over his ego without uttering a world just as she has regarded him, he chose to answer.

“You are just a one night stand. Do I need to remember your name?” he scoffed.

The girl’s face tightened as the skin on her forehead raise in sync. Her eyeballs went up and down in her small eyes and in contrast to what he suppose, she coughed out laughed. It was a vibrating sound which made him sick in the stomach.

“Now, that's more like it. That made you sound more like the Danny I knew in these two days.” She bit the tip of her lips while her cheek pulled up.

Cripes, was all girls like this one?

“I'm starving.” he pronounced in a bit to redirect the course of their conversation.

A clanking sound came from outside and the screams of a girl followed.

While getting shaken by the horrific thoughts of what could be happening to the screaming girl, “More reason why we should go out in the morning.” he heard her say.

As he turned to voice his opposition and query, the girl explained her concept reasonably. “I mean you starving. Not the girl having her brains being eaten out by zombies outside.” she said.

This was one heartless bitch.

“That could be you, you know.” he snapped.

Somewhere outside, the booming sound of a shotgun reaounded.

“Well, it's not me.” he heard the girl blurt.

Damn, she was a lost cause.
