The way Steve spoke sounded like a challenge in the man's ears. The man perceived Steve's inquiry about Adaline's debt as an act of insolence and doubted Steve's capability to pay it off.

"Hey, do you even know how much debt you're supposed to pay?" The man asked, a serious expression etched on his face.

"That's why I'm asking, are you dim or something?" Steve Hart felt disgusted by the man's behavior.

The man smirked and promptly displayed a sheet of paper containing Adaline's debt amount. "Total debt with interest is $150,000. You can see it here."

Steve scrutinized the man, firmly believing his mother wouldn't dare accumulate such an amount of debt.

"Don't joke around. Do you think I'm an idiot or something?" Steve Hart felt angered by the man trying to take advantage of him.

With a sneering smile, the man said, "The actual debt is only $10,000; the rest is interest that accrued over three years of delay."
