A Miserable Childhood

"How has your life been?"

It was the first sentence Jonathan uttered when he and Bill were in Ryan's office, where a father figure wanted to find out more about the son who had been neglected. There was no expression of curiosity or even regret. His face and body language remained as steadfast as when he first saw Bill some time ago.

"What do I have to tell you? Nothing interesting other than the suffering I've been feeling," Bill replied.

Outdoors, after the back garden, Jeremy took Ryan to meet Jonathan and Bill. Until the man pushing Ryan's wheelchair arrived at the door of the room where Bill and Jonathan were inside.

"Don't knock," Ryan said, preventing Jeremy when the young man's hand was ready to knock on the door. "Slowly, just open the door a little. I want to know what they're talking about.
