CHAPTER THREE

"Whoa, six thousand dollars!" Victor blurted out. "This is more than the transport fare." Victor however began to ponder on the reason for the doctors invitation, however since it was something concerning the hospital, he jumped up from his bed, took his clothes, and went out of his room.

His mother was in the sitting room, watching some TV series still on her night gown and white stockings was alarmed when Victor walked out of the room, all dressed up.

"Where are you going son." She asked, looking above her glasses.

"I am going to the hospital, doctor Pius invited me."

"For what?"

"I don't know."

Mrs Yvonne put up a worried expression on her face. "Um son, I do not have any money to give you as transport fare, even only God knows how we are going to feed tomorrow, I am broke, and the month has not yet ended."

Victor looked at his mother in pity, he wanted to speak to her about the six thousand dollars, doctor Pius had sent him, but he refused to do so, because he had no idea what the money was for, he also had no idea if he was healthy or not. "Mom, I have some money here for transportation, do not worry about that, anyway the doctor said it is urgent, I have to be gone now." He moved to her and kissed her cheek. "I love you okay."

"I love you too honey, just stay away from those streets urchins, and prostitutes and focus on going to the hospital okay."

"Yes mum." He then hurried out of the house.

Victor boarded a cab, in the dead of the night and after about thirty six minutes, he arrived at the Carranio del Taco general hospital.

After alighting from the vehicle, Victor made the necessary transaction with the driver confirming it.

With the driver disappearing into the dead of the night, Victor made it into the hospital.

It was vast and was an extravagant one of top standard.

Just as he entered, he saw a middle aged white man, he had a brown hair and grown beards. He wore a lab coat and hanged a stethoscope on his shoulders.

"Welcome Victor."

"Hello doctor Pius, it is a pleasure to meet you once again." They shook hands.

"Yes, me too."

"So what is the reason for your invitation?"

"Come with me to my office."

Both walked beside each other, and soon they entered his office, and immediately both men entered the office, the door was shut and locked by a tall muscular man on black suit and black hat, who had been inside the office.

Victor gasped at the sight that caught his gaze, because apart from the man that shut the door, two other burly men with menacing features stood infront of him, they looked emotionless, and they both held dangerous, and horrifying guns, the likes of which he had never seen before.

Upon the sight of these men, who wore dark long coats, Victor was scared to death.

"So this is the boy huh." Asked the man behind, who had shut the door.

"Yes, he is the one." Doctor Pius replied.

"Bring the boy closer, let me take a look at him." A voice behind the armed men said.

At once, the man behind held his shoulders and moved him towards doctor Pius desk, were a black man with salt and pepper beard was sitting.

Victor could not believe his eyes, he almost fainted at the sight. "Sir Jarrod Williams?" He hissed in disbelief.

"Yes boy, I am Sir…Jarrod…Williams." He said without stress. "Let the boy be Keegan." He ordered, and at once Victor was left alone.

"He has Janet's eyes, nose, and even looks like me when I look tensed, take a look at him boys." He said jokingly, though with an intimidating voice.

Upon the statement which was presumably a joke, his three bodyguards began to laugh.

"Doctor Pius, why am I here?" He asked, still panting out of fear due to the menacing atmosphere he found himself.

Doctor Pius upon hearing Victor's question, turned to Mr Jarrod Williams.

"Tell him doctor." Mr Jarrod Williams said.

"Okay Victor, ever since you got employed at De Jarrod's spaghetti company branch, we have been keeping a close eye on you, like spying on you."

"But why would you be spying on me, I swear I am not a bad person, I am neither a thief or a terrorist."

"Yes we know that, anyway that is not the reason why you have been watched."

Victor furrowed his eyebrows. "Why then was I spied on? wait, how was I being followed, because I know that your job as a doctor is very demanding."

"That is not important Victor."

"Why then am I here?" Victor asked, still looking confused.

There was silence in the office for about six seconds, until doctor Pius broke the silence. "Victor, we ran some DNA tests with your blood, and we discovered that…"

"That what?"

"That Mr Jarrod Williams sitting down here, is your biological father." Doctor Pius replied.

When Victor heard that, he lost consciousness for a moment, and was not aware of the time he fell on the chair behind him.

The black out was just for fifteen seconds, however when he regained consciousness, he looked at Mr Jarrod Williams. "How is that possible, my father left my mother when I was five."

"The woman that you stay with, is not your real mother." Doctor Pius said.

"Pius!" Mr Jarrod called.

"Yes sir."

"Run the DNA tests, one more time, let him see for himself."

"Okay sir, however I will need Keegan's blood sample also, so I could prove to Victor here that we do not decieve him." Doctor Pius requested.

"No problem." Mr Jarrod said dismissively.

Doctor Pius then collected the blood sample of the three men, and took them to the laboratory, which was inside a room there at the office.

"Wow, Victor, a beautiful name." Mr Jarrod said, as he looked admirably at his son, who looked confused.

"This is not possible, there is no way I can be the son of the richest man in all of Sergia, and founder of De Jarrod's group of companies." Victor thought to himself.

"You are so handsome, more handsome than I could ever imagine." Mr Jarrod said, looking satisfactorily at Victor.

After about fifteen minutes, doctor Pius came out of the laboratory, with three plain white papers and a flash drive.

He placed the plain papers on the table, which had some pictures of DNA strands, and he inserted the flash drive into the laptop infront of him, and some information inside the flash, was displayed on the monitor.

Doctor Pius explained everything that was displayed on the monitor, and at last, Victor was now convinced that the man sitting beside him was truely his biological father.

His legs started trembling upon discovering this truth.

"Dad?" He asked, putting up a questionable look at Mr Jarrod.

"Son, I am your father." Drops of tears, began running down his cheeks.

Victor jumped up from his seat, and hugged his father affectionately.

"So it is true."

"Yes son, it is very true."

"I am so surprised, I still cannot contain the fact that Mr Jarrod Williams, the richest man in the state is my father." Victor said in tears.

"So, how has life been for you Victor?" Mr Jarrod asked.

"Dad, life has not been very favourable with me, my mother and I have been struggling to make ends meet." Victor replied, putting up a pitiable look

Boss I guess the shirt he wears, clearly shows that life is not fair to him." Keegan said mockingly, and as a result all three bodyguards began to laugh.

Mr Jarrod frowned at his men, and immediately they comported themselves, halting their laughter.

"Laugh at my son again, and I will take your families into custody, and bail them out only after you have remitted a million dollars, which would be very difficult for you three." He said, staring coldly at his bodyguards, and at once, all three of them apologized.

"But I hear you are in a private university. If you and your mother are struggling financially, how then are you two able to raise such amount of money for your tuition fees?" Mr Jarrod stared inquisitively at his son.

Victor smiled. "Daddy I was awarded a scholarship by the state, to study in any university of my choice." He replied.

"So you chose a private university, that is smart."

"Daddy I did not choose Marquez Piso university just because it is a private university, but I chose it because of its high standard, and I believed that it had the necessary facilities to help me become better at my field."

Mr Jarrod smiled proudly due to how intelligently Victor answered his question. "So what are you studying?"

"Daddy I am public health." He responded meekly.

"How then have the college life been for you, I guess your good looks is making the girls at your department to have sleepless nights." Mr Jarrod grinned.

"No daddy, quite the opposite." Victor's countenance changed into that which expressed gloom.

Mr Jarrod furrowed his eyebrows. "What is it then? Tell me." He began to look concerned at his son.

"Daddy, I have been a subject of ridicule, especially in my department, just because of my status. Many students at the University, make me feel that I do not belong there, since I was from a family with an income level below average."

Mr Jarrod was furious. However he began to weep, upon hearing about the predicament his son was passing through. "What does your mother do for a living Victor." He mumbled, struggling to speak due to the extreme pain, he felt for his son because he knew what it felt like to feel rejected just because of status.
