Joseph Schultz gave a nervous laugh and quickly waved his hands. “Come on, boss. Don’t give me that look, I’m just kidding.”

Mrs. Davidson frowned. “Are you mocking me?” she asked sharply, as her eyes narrowed.

“No, no,” Joseph replied, shaking his head. “Come on, Mrs. Davidson, don’t take this too seriously. There’s no way that trash ex-son-in-law of yours is anything important, now or in the future.”

Mrs. Davidson's gaze softened slightly, but her voice remained cold. “You’re very lucky you’re not mocking me,” she warned, as her tone was full of danger. “If you were, you’d be met with bitter consequences.”

She brushed past him and moved toward the crowd, who were once again celebrating as if nothing had happened.

Meanwhile, Linda slipped away quietly, her mind was spinning after everything that had happened. She headed up the stairs to her room, still inside the mansion, her footsteps were slow and heavy.
