CHAPTER 98

As Romeo struggled to his feet, his heart pounded with a mixture of fury and humiliation.

The mocking laughter of the gang members echoed in his ears, each guffaw like a dagger to his pride.

"Look at him, boys! The mighty daring dog has been brought down to his knees like a pathetic little puppy," one of the gang members jeered, his voice dripping with derision.

"Yeah, and listen to that voice! Sounds like a squeaky toy trying to bark like a real dog," another chimed in, his laughter punctuated by snide remarks from his companions.

Romeo clenched his fists, his jaw locked in a tight grimace as he fought to contain the seething rage bubbling within him.

The insults cut deep, but he refused to show weakness in the face of this show of mockery.

"I bet he cries himself to sleep at night, dreaming of the glory days when he actually dreamed that he could be someone to be feared," a woman sneered, her words like venom laced with honey as she added to the chorus of ridicule.
