Chapter 220

As they made their way through the quiet square, Dexter felt a mixture of relief and apprehension. The aftermath of the battle loomed over him like a shadow, and though they had triumphed, the cost of their victory weighed heavily in his mind.

“Do you think the others are okay?” Charlotte asked, her voice breaking the silence as they navigated through the debris.

Dexter nodded, though uncertainty gnawed at him. “They had to have seen what happened. If we’re here, then I hope they’re safe.”

They reached the edge of the square, where the light from Charlotte's magic illuminated the battered forms of their friends. A few of the remaining members of the Resistance were tending to those who had been injured during the battle. Dexter's heart sank at the sight of their bruised and weary faces, but a spark of hope flickered as he recognized some of them.
