As they continued their patrol, they stumbled upon a clearing where the remnants of an old campfire still smoldered. The charred logs lay scattered, and the faint scent of burnt wood hung in the air. Dexter’s heart raced as he scanned the area. “This is fresh,” he murmured, kneeling beside the ashes. “They were here not long ago.”

Liam stepped closer, peering at the ground. “Look at the footprints,” he pointed out, tracing a line with his finger. “They’re too big to be ours. These must belong to Nyx’s followers.”

Dexter stood, tension coiling in his muscles. “We need to follow them. They could lead us to something important.”

The two friends moved cautiously, keeping to the shadows as they followed the trail deeper into the woods. Each step felt heavier, the weight of their mission pressing down on them. As they walked, Dexter could feel Liam’s uncertainty, the remnants of his time as a revenant still haunting him.
