Eliot used the past few days as the chief productively.
Apart from training the previously chaotic fish school into a cohesive unit, he also did some personal observation on his part.
Led by Commander Bomber, as the fish of the attack department went out to hunt successfully for the fish school, Eliot noticed something.
During the past few days of hunting, a few of the fish in the attack department were able to level up, he noticed due to his snooping tool.
This was when he arrived at a theory after careful analysis.
‘Commander Bomber and ex chief are already level 5 fish’.
‘It’s clear that level 5 is the first climax point for Salmon fish, to grow further, they need to use a single species evolution orb to evolve and gain magic’.
This brought an idea to tweak the hunt strategy of the attack department.
‘Since Commander Bomber no longer has use for XP unless he uses a single species evolution orb, there’s no use for him landing the killing blow to prey’.
‘I will introduce a strategy that will help other fish to land the killing blow’.
‘This way, the attack department will get stronger faster’.
Eliot made this analysis a few days ago.
At the moment though, his focus was on ex chief who answered his summons, coming to the lair of his fish school whose construction was completed just 2 days ago under the leadership of Commander Blinky.
The lair of the fish school according to the chief’s instructions were dug underground like a labyrinth.
Only the chief, ex chief, and the 3 Commanders knew the full blueprint to their labyrinth lair, all the other fishes only obeyed instructions.
This was one thing why Eliot loved these Salmon, they always blindly obeyed instructions from their chief without thinking or asking questions.
When under a chief like ex chief, this was disaster.
But under Eliot, they thrived.
The purpose of the lair was to serve as the last defense stand of the fish school. In the face of immense danger, instead of ex chief’s shout danger and run strategy, Eliot’s strategy was for all the fish to retreat here strategically.
The holes of the labyrinth were just big enough to let the biggest Salmon fish through them, this prevented bigger predators from forcing their way in.
This way, not only could they protect themselves, but against arrogant and overconfident predators, they could even launch a counterattack right there from their labyrinth and secure an unlikely victory with the odds against them.
“Chief, all fish must die someday!” Ex chief bowed as he swam before the chief. “You summoned me”.
At this moment, ex chief was very respectful around the new chief.
This was not only because of the title of a chief.
Having lived through 3 generations of Chinook Salmon schools, even during the era of the conqueror chief, ex chief was impressed by what Eliot did.
Though he didn’t understand why, he could tell that the fish school was now more cohesive and collectively stronger than ever before.
He no longer felt like one fish would die every day of living.
This still didn’t shake his belief though. “All fish must die someday!”
Hearing that sentence again for the umpteenth time, Eliot sighed. “I wonder if you’ll ever change that belief of yours”.
“All fish must die someday!” Ex chief repeated seriously.
“…” Eliot was speechless.
Eliot didn’t dwell on it; he faced his assistant with a serious look on his face the next moment as ex chief also became serious noticing his look.
“Ex chief, it’s time”. Eliot felt excited as he said it.
“For days, I’ve held the fish school back from exploring because I felt we’re not yet ready to explore, that’s why I focused on training”.
“But finally, I think it’s time”.
“Before I start the ambitious plan in my head though, first, I need to test you all. I need to test you to confirm that you are ready to explore”.
“A test?” Ex chief was interested.
“Yes, the test shall be a hunt”.
“The job of the defense department is mostly passive so they’ll probably be left out of this. My main reason for this test is to challenge the scouting and attack department to see how they will fare when the going gets tough”.
Ex chief listened attentively.
“This is why I need your knowledge again; you’ve lived the longest here”.
“I need a worthy opponent to serve as a test”.
“A beast that is powerful enough to put the attack department on a pinch, obviously a beast without magic but a powerful one”.
“Oh…!” Ex chief’s eyes widened, he finally understood.
“What about…,” He thought for a few seconds. “Killer Croc?”
“…” Eliot’s fish eyes twitched.
“No…, hell no!”
“Why?” Ex chief was baffled.
“Magic or no magic, Salmon fish has nothing to do against a croc”.
“When we’re ready, I’ll know”.
“Right now, we’re nowhere ready to take on a Croc”.
The look that Eliot gave this old Salmon fish changed as he looked at him. ‘No wonder so many of our brothers died, your decision-making skills is crazy man’.
“What of…, the old geezer Anaconda?”
“…” Eliot just stared at this fish.
If he had hands, he would place them akimbo just staring at him.
Feeling his gaze, ex chief coughed awkwardly only for bubbles to come out of his mouth. “What of the Barracuda of the West?”
Eliot’s eyes gleamed. “Tell me about him”.
Ex chief entered story telling mode as he elaborated about the fateful encounter of the fish school with the dangerous Barracuda.
This encounter occurred like 3 months ago.
Eliot guessed that this beast was yet to evolve, he made his decision.
“That’s our target”.
“Inform the scouting and attack department”.
“Yes, chief”.
…
10 minutes later, 15 Chinook Salmon fish left the labyrinth lair.
The defense department was the largest department of the fish school with 25 Salmon fish, more than half of the fish in the school.
The 2nd largest department was the attack department with 8 Chinook Salmon, while Commander Bonkers’ scouting department had only 6 fish.
Instantly after leaving the lair, as they swam towards the west, the 6 fish of the scouting department led by Commander Bonkers gave the others a head start.
Having trained intensely and practiced for the past few days, the scouting unit gave a perfect performance leading the way to the target as they detected and led the hunting force to avoid 3 deadly predators and 2 hostile fish schools.
13 minutes after they left the lair, the scouts detected him.
At the west end of the Thunder Reef, the Barracuda casually swam.

‘No!’
For the first time, Eliot ignored his support system’s tip.
His eyes gleamed as he saw him. “Game on!”
[WARNING! A powerful predator has been discovered!][You have encountered a Barracuda Fish!][Support system tip: Escape!]“Game on!” Eliot was excited. The Barracuda of the West was huge.Almost 3 times as big as the average Chinook Salmon in this hunt force, the Salmon fish could not help but be intimidated on the first sight of the beast. This was the first time that they were hunting a beast bigger than them. Most times, ex chief only targeted fish schools that were smaller and weaker than them, this was the safest avenue to eat and grow in his opinion. But not anymore, chief Eliot was different.Despite this Barracuda not evolving to access magic yet, it was clear that he was a veteran hunter. This muscular fish with its streamlined, torpedo-shaped body screamed danger no matter how you looked at it.Its mouth was equipped with an impressive set of razor-sharp teeth. It looked even more menacing due to its lower jaw jutting out past its upper jaw, exposing its dozens of terrifyin

Today was Eliot’s first big day as chief of this fish school. He led them to an unprecedented victory, killing multiple small fish and 2 powerful predators in the form of the Giant Barracuda and the Diving Bell Spider.Eliot was not someone that loved work though. He could be lazy like any other person. The reason why he put in so much effort to become the chief and lead this fish school was because he had goals. He had a lot of mysteries in his mind that he wanted to clarify. And most of all, evolution.[You have activated innate bloodline ability: Infinite Evolution!][Congratulations! “Ok, ok, this is how we’ll do it”. Eliot faced his assistant. “We have to trim the options down so we’ll use this strategy”. “Which of them do you hate the most?” “We’ll use that to narrow them down first”. Eliot barely finished when ex chief roared. “Definitely those f*ckers!” Eliot stared at him. “Who?” “Those f*ckers!” ‘Damn, I swear I’ll kill this mother*cker one day’. Eliot thought in exasperation as he glared at ex chief. “Who?!” “Ahh…, sorry, it’s those Mata Mata”. “Gosh, they’re so arrogant”. “They kill with style, so arrogant and foolish!” Ex chief stared at Eliot again. “Not only them, the Vampire fish crew too but unlike the Mata Mata, I truly fear them”. “Even during the days of Chief, their raids left us with huge casualties”. “I don’t want us to fight them”. “The Stingray clan too, I hate them”. “And the Tiger Fish clan too, those f*ckers!” “And I think…” “Wait!” Eliot stopped him. “I think that’s enough”. “Let’s narrow it down further, tell me about th
Rustle! The leaves on the seabed waved gently to the rhythm of the water even as the waves hit against the coral reef, leaving behind a whistling sound.Whoosh! The sound of the waves hitting against solid ground reverberated in intervals, giving Eliot the clue he needed that land was probably nearby.‘This proves that there’s definitely a beach nearby or something’.‘I can’t wait to be level 5 to truly check it out’. He felt excited. The home of the Goliath Tigerfish clan was at another edge of the coral reef and at these early hours of the morning, it was as silent as a graveyard.Around the lair of the Tigerfish was a gathering of sea plants that did a good job in hiding the tiny entrance that led into the lair of these fish.Their chief was clearly intelligent to make this place their lair.It was what kept them alive and thriving for so long.Discovering this place was a testament to Commander Bonkers’ ability and the overall ability of the scouting department of the fish school.
“Danger!”“Run!”“Run!”If the Goliath Tigerfish that could speak reacted like this, what was the reaction of the poor weaker and undeveloped ones?It was a pretty chaotic sight. The Goliath Tigerfish that reacted on time charged out of their lair filled with panic, forgetting the fact that they were safest when cohesive inside their lair.Instantly after they came out, the defense department reacted.“Kill!” Commander Blinky roared. The 25 Salmon Fish of the defense department went on the attack led by their Commander. In this scenario, with at least 3 Salmon fish ganging up on 1 Goliath Tigerfish, the Tigerfish stood no chance. The 11 Tigerfish that charged out of the lair would meet death in no time. Not all the Tigerfish were awake yet though, some of them slept deeper and for others, even if they woke up, they didn’t know how to react to the sudden situation that befell their clan. And besides, with the strongest of the clan having woken up ahead of time and reacted by panicking,
[WARNING! A powerful predator has been discovered!] [You have encountered a family of mutated Piranhas!] [Support system tip: Escape!] SNAP! Another Salmon fish fell prey to the predators. The 5 Piranha fish were having the time of their lives. It was early morning and they already encountered this tasty treat, they would not be Piranhas if they did not take advantage of the opportunity to get as much free food as they wanted. “…!” Commander Blinky was petrified in shock on seeing them. This fish felt like she was seeing ghosts. The arrival of the Piranha fish threw all the raid plans down the drain. The Chief was good at creating strategies to turn tides around in battle but before overwhelming power, strategy meant nothing. No amount of strategy would make the school of Salmon fish suddenly good enough to take on these hyper aggressive predators. By now, after the death of their chief, the Goliath Tigerfish clan was already coming really close to extinction by the hands o
The chase was on! WHOOSH! “Badump!” “Badump!” Feeling the friction as the 5 Piranha fish divided the water apart, rapidly carving their way through with aggressive intent right behind him, Eliot felt like he was a convict on death row that was about to be hanged to death. He felt like a sword of Damocles was hovering right above him. “Badump!” “Badump!” His heart rapidly beat against his chest aggressively. Despite the adrenaline and the physical state of his body though, in his mind, Eliot was eerily calm as he rapidly analyzed his options. His decision to attack and lead the 5 Piranha fish away from his subordinates was a radical one, a decision that he came to on the spot without having the time or luxury to think too much about it or its repercussions. It was while he escaped now that the repercussions of his decision started flowing back into his head, painting his fate a grim one. ‘Where can I go to?’ ‘Where can I hide?’ ‘The lair?’ ‘No! I already told them to retrea
