Elena followed Carter to his laboratory right after, upon arrival she saw that the shape and arrangement of the laboratory has been changed completely. Where Astra’s stuff were, has been changed completely to into other laboratory functions.

But one thing has not changed at all and that is the large central space where the black ring that accidentally transported Astra after exploding is, has been preserved, Carter has secretly continued the research into the kind of technology that was used to form the ring.

But from what Elena could see, she realized that he must not have made any much progress on the research since all she can see are a bunch of prototype smaller versions of the ring structure that have on them stickers that said “Failed!”
