Archie tried to stand on his feet, which were still shaking. At least he had to do something. Otherwise, something bad would happen to his mother. She was the one who straight away gave him warmth and affection—something he had never received before.
"Sotna mamakku," Archie shouted, using his world language spontaneously.
The masked figure was surprised and turned its attention to Archie.
"You?!" Behind his mask, his eyes stared with shock. The language Archie had just spoken was not the language of this world.
"You are not affected by my magic, huh?" asked the masked figure. "I don't care, my business is not with you, brat."
He continued to strangle Emeline's neck while his other hand held Emeline's face tightly.
Slowly but surely, Emeline's body became limp and stiff. From between the fingers, the mother's eyes glanced at her son with affection.
Archie's spirit flared up, his mixed feelings worsened, and a wave of magic rose within him.
The wind ruffled his hair and clothes. Archie's eyes filled with tears as his mother's gaze reached him—a gaze full of hope.
“WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!”
Archie was about to take a step. In the first push, a strange sensation sent him crashing fast toward the masked figure. In a matter of seconds, he grabbed his mother's body, and the strong wind followed, sending the mummies and the masked figure down.
The masked figure swiftly dodged the wind’s gust; he jumped back and stood unharmed.
“I see, yeah…you are also an Outlander. You are not a soul that should be in this world,” said the masked figure. He stared intently at the figure of Archie floating above the ground holding his mother's body.
“Outlanders? Not from this world?” replied Archie, who was confused.
“Heh, apparently, you didn't know anything. Look at yourself."
Archie looked around. The wind swirled, creating a protective shield that protected him and his comrades. At that moment, he realized he was no longer touching the ground; he was floating in the air.
“This is the first time for me to witness the grimoire’s awakening other than mine,” said the masked man.
“Grimoires?! Is this?"
Archie's gaze moved again. This time a white book hovered nearby. The book's front cover is decorated with an ornament that forms a beautiful batik pattern and an inscription written in an ancient language.
“Grimoire…of the Winds?”
The wind was spinning faster and looked like it would rage when Archie read the cover’s text. Sheet after sheet opened, at first glance, it only looks like a blank white sheet, until finally the book stops and he sees the first page.
[[Grimoire of the Winds
Possessor: Archie Shellford
Basic Class: The Wanderer
Class Level: Whitecaste
Transcended Class: Insufficient
Compatibility Rate: 1%]]
Archie's attention was focused on a straight line under the first page. The 1% number appears on the left side of the line, while the 100% appears on the far right of the line. But the attention was diverted again because something appeared on the same sheet.
Something began to be printed on the white sheet. In the ancient language of his world, a letter was printed, which then became a word and formed into a whole paragraph right below the old one.
[[Quest Encountered!
Main Quest: Settled the Initial Encounter]]
“From your expression, it looks like the first mission has already been written, huh?”
Those words snapped Archie out of his endless confusion. The figure in front of him kept saying something only he should know.
"Actually…who are you?"
“Who am I, huh? Huh,” replied the masked figure haughtily. “I am the same person as you; we are Outlanders. We are not the original inhabitants of this world.”
Something is starting to connect and make sense. First, the figure is wearing a Tutankhanum mask that comes from his world, even though it's a different era and region, but Archie has studied history.
Second, he heard the masked figure chanting magic using a recognized language. The masks and language came from the same region.
Archie's aimlessly thoughts had drifted back to his senses. The mother in his arms didn't move; Archie put his ear to the mother's bosom to listen to her heartbeat.
"Mother?! Wake up, Mother!” Archie tried to shake his mother's rigid body, but there was no reciprocation. The mother's heartbeat was slowing, and her face turned pale.
“The initial effects are already starting to appear. If you don't do something, that woman will die soon, you know," said the masked figure.
“What have you done to my mother? Bastard!” Archie's pitiful gaze turned into a threatening looking at his opponent. Fear, worry, and another emotion rolled into one.
The masked figure opened his palm and showed something. A deep purple crystal with a shining white core has a pyramidal tip.
“I have succeeded in extracting the holy power from that woman,” explained the masked figure. He tossed around the crystal in his hand like a toy. “A person whose power is taken by force, their soul will not be able to last long, and slowly, that person will die.”
“Then I just have to grab that thing and kill you, right?” Archie was threatening with words, but his opponent would have easily guessed that he wasn't playing around at all.
"Ha ha ha. You? Even though you just awakened the power of a grimoire, your compatibility with the grimoire is unelevated. You won't be able to use it against me, who is superior to you.” The masked figure laughed as he heard Archie's serious threat confidently.
"Listen, brat. When you first awaken the grimoire, the skills you can use are the least and they are just lowly skills that won't even be able to fight against Bluecaste class adventurers,” he continued sneeringly.
After Archie checked his grimoire, on another sheet was written down:
[[Passive Skill: Floating, Actived]]
[[Passive Skill: Protective Dome, Actived]]
Then below that paragraph:
[[Active Skill: Syphon
Spell: ___]]
In the paragraph that reads "Active Skill," there are evident sentences, which are a series of words commonly used as poesy.
“Done checking it? Try reading the spells written there, I'm also curious about your first skill," said the masked figure sarcastically.
"Or do you want me to give you an example first?"The masked figure opened his grimoire, nodding as if he understood something. After continuing to read, he let out a dissatisfied sigh.“Ah, forget it. My business here is done.""Done? Did you think I would just leave you alone after all this?”The two stared at each other, and their eyes circled the area, where they only saw a dark area and four humans lying flat on the ground.“I don't know what the first mission is written on your grimoire, but I also have my own interests,” said the masked figure. He was turning his body towards the black spiral.“You are lucky to have met me, the Gatekeeper. I'm just doing my mission and nothing more. If you meet other people, I can be assured they will instantly liquidate you and all the people in this small village," he added.Although it is a reasonable choice for Archie, he knows nothing about this world, and even though the power has just awakened, he has neither the ability nor the knowledg
The village of Alian is located in the southern part of the Literra Empire. Most residents have livelihoods as farmers, fishermen, or hunters in areas with a prosperous greeny.Their region was relatively small compared to the other nobility's territory, so it was common for their village to be quite backward regarding infrastructure and development. Even so, the citizens never complained about it. They were pretty happy with their lives and current situation.Three days ago, the chief's son woke up from a coma. He has an unknown disease. As soon as he came to his senses, it wasn't long before he made a trip to the Town of Krakal to deepen the ties between the two regions.A strange natural disaster occurred in Krakal Town one year ago, where dungeon monsters suddenly spawned. There are also unique monsters, mini-bosses, and mysterious figures. They called that disaster the Inverse Dungeon, where they became the prey.A similar disaster almost happened in the Village of Alian. When it
“It’s here? It turned out to be quite crowded.” “Well, besides getting your ID card, there is a guild office nearby; many adventurers are taking care of their needs.” Archie and Layla had just entered Wellspring town, the closest place they could register for identity cards. The city is bustling with traffic, and the buildings stand majestically. They can see many adventurers wearing various equipment doing their activities, whether just drinking or discussing their strategy to conquer dungeons. That night, Archie had decided to find a cure for his mother. He had to research dungeons, looking for magic items or drop items that could be useful to him. For that, he needs to have an identity card. In this world, identity cards are obtained from a commercial dungeon called “The Given.” Unlike dungeons in general, the size is like an ordinary house door, and this dungeon can be in the college offices or guild agencies. After putting the horse down, Archie walked with Layla to a large
"Is there something wrong?" "Nothing." The answer was so fast out of Layla. “If so, you can contact me any time if you need help,” Emma greeted. After a light bow, she walked back to her counter. No one else is in the same queue, which means that today or indeed, the ID card registration process is not as busy as other transactions. If this were still in his world, he would probably have to queue several hours before having his turn to be served and then wait days to weeks for the paperwork to be completed. If he remembered correctly, he once applied for a national identity card and had waited almost two years before the process had to be repeated from the beginning. Luckily he was already a civil servant at that time, and when he processed it for the second time, miraculously, it was finished in just two days even though they should have completed the process on the same day. "So, now what should I do?" After getting the ID card, and with all the skill points he has, he should
"I think that's a good idea, do you guys agree?" “Mmm…of course, why not?” There was no objection from the party members, and everyone agreed. From the beginning, Archie was just a spectator in the back, with Layla casting support spells, while the other three adventurers were in the front row, slaying monsters. Unlike the three adventurers, who wore complete equipment such as armor and weapons, Archie and Layla only wore makeshift equipment. They didn't have any prior preparations, so they used equipment that could be bought in Craydon city. "I have a suggestion," Kane chimed in. "In order to save time, it is better for the three of you to proceed to the left side first, let me and the kid unlock the secret room on the right side." "That's right, it's possible that there are other parties that can precede us, right?" “Mmm…after all the monsters int the early stage are only blue-level, Kane alone is enough, right?” Without Layla's or Archie's approval involved, the three advent
It all started when Coby and Kane were watching Layla sitting alone in the guild building. They admire Layla's beauty and body shape. Even though the girl has tried not to stand out and dress modestly, the purity of her beauty still radiates and invites their attention. At a glance, they could tell that Layla must be a noble, and a noble must be wealthy and have money. Instead, those who were in a stalemate spent the rest of their money on drinking until a depraved idea popped into Kane's head. They can play around with the girl and ask for something in return. A classic method that any petty bandit could do.The choice of The Cursed Dungeon was not purely random, but they had thought of using the dungeon mechanism to isolate Archie and Layla. Reasons can come later, give the girl a bit of a threat, and people will simply believe that incident happened and the newbie can’t be saved. On the other hand, Layla acted more aggressively because she followed her emotions when she saw her fia
The Cursed Cave Dungeon is a purple-level difficulty and a monthly type dungeon. This dungeon was not a high-difficulty dungeon, but adventurers who wanted to explore it still needed sufficient knowledge and power level. Whitecaste-ranked adventurers could only enter white-level dungeons, Bluecaste only blue-level, and so on. But this system could be busted by having more than three people at the same rank as the dungeon level and one newbie. Even though it is classified as a low difficulty level, a dungeon is still strange and unknown to humans. They just explore and repeat for rewards and treasures, but the mystery of the dungeon doesn't stop there. “Damn it, isn't this strange? The monsters' levels suddenly increased, and we had a hard time killing them. Not to mention the numbers seem never to lessen.” "There must be something going on, we've never experienced this before." As the first team to advance exploring, leaving Kane and Archie behind, they are currently being pushed
Spread Anomaly, a dungeon mechanism accidentally triggered by Archie. The initial trigger is to open a secret room near the starting path, then kill all the monsters that spawn in that room; then, the mechanism will run immediately, making the spawned monsters increase in number and stronger. Mechanisms like this were common in high-level dungeons, but it always maintained the possibility that low-level dungeons would also have them. Monsters in dungeons have a thickness of Health Points that can be seen if one masters the "Eyesight" ability. It's a passive ability that anyone can learn, and Archie just learned it after taking a test at The Given. “I need more attacks than Kane, who only uses two or three skills. Is it because this weapon is low grade?” Archie muttered to himself after blowing away the monsters. His Eyesight saw their HP only decrease by 20% after receiving the attack.
