Chapter 524: The After-Hours PactThe sun had long since dipped below the skyline, leaving the EMC executive floor in a state of eerie, artificial twilight. Most of the staff had cleared out, fleeing the tension that had gripped the building since the heist. Only the hum of the HVAC system and the occasional rhythmic pulse of security lights remained. In the corner of the darkened boardroom, Thomas Sterling sat at the head of the long obsidian table. He didn't turn on the overhead lights; the ambient glow from the city skyscrapers was enough to illuminate the sharp lines of his face.A moment later, the heavy glass door hissed open. Outside, the world was screaming about the loss of eight billion dollars, but inside, the silence was absolute. Eric Wood slumped into his leather chair, his face a map of exhaustion and anxiety. He looked across at James, who was calmly adjusting the cufflinks on his tailored suit."James, I don't understand," Eric began, his voice barely a whisper. "Morrison just told us the trail is cold. He’s out there chasing street thugs who probably don't even know how to spell 'offshore account.' We have the data. We have the logs that show the backdoor entry was signed with Williams’s architecture. We have Gregor’s reports on Sterling’s asset liquidation. Why are we letting them sit in their offices drinking coffee like they’ve won?"James walked to the corner of the room, looking at a framed map of the Wane Dynasty’s global holdings. He didn't turn ar

Chapter 522: The Hounds are LoosedThe briefing room at the 4th Precinct was a stifling box of blue smoke and the hum of a malfunctioning air conditioner. Detective Morrison stood at the front, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, exposing forearms covered in old scars and faded ink. Behind him, a whiteboard was covered in a chaotic web of crime scene photos, blurred CCTV stills, and three specific mugshots circled in thick, red marker: Kane, Tom, and Dorian.A dozen officers and tactical specialists sat in the tiered wooden seats, their faces grim. The weight of the missing eight billion dollars hung over them like a physical pressure."Listen up," Morrison growled, tapping a baton against the photo of Tom. "Based on the testimony of our courier, Marcus Reed, we have confirmed these three are our primary physical actors. They are the remnants of Sasha’s old crew—vultures who’ve been looking for a payday since their queen went underground. They are dangerous, they are de
