Chapter 399

Eric heard the knock and opened the door cautiously, peering out before recognizing James and Gregor. His brows furrowed at the sight of them—dusty clothes, unshaven faces, and exhaustion etched into their features.

“You two look like you’ve been through hell,” Eric said as he stepped aside to let them in.

James walked in first, brushing past him, while Gregor followed, giving Eric a curt nod. They both slumped into the nearest chairs, the weariness in their movements making it clear they had been running on fumes.

“Any update?” Eric asked, his voice heavy with concern. He remained standing, arms crossed as he studied their tired faces.

James rubbed his temples before speaking. “Williams has Charles now.”

The words hung in the air like a thunderclap. Eric’s eyes widened in shock. “What? Williams? Are you sure?”

Gregor leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “We saw it ourselves, Eric. Last night, near the bunker. It was chaos.”

James took a deep breath and started

Gwen’s face was pale, her eyes wide with a mix of exhaustion and worry.“What’s going on?” she asked, her voice shaky.Mary quickly filled her in, and Gwen’s eyes darted nervously between the group. “You want me to call Sterling? Pretend the police told me Charles is with him?”“Yes,” James said firmly. “You’re the mother of his son. He won’t ignore you, and your mention of the police will rattle him.”Gwen hesitated, biting her lip. “What if he calls my bluff?”“He won’t,” Gregor said. “Not immediately. They had dressed him in fresh clothes, fed him a warm meal, and now a doctor was attending to him, checking his pulse and murmuring to himself as he scribbled notes on a small pad.Charles barely paid attention. His mind was still tangled in the horrors of the past few days—the rough hands that had grabbed him, the muffled voices, the threats whispered in the dark. Before now, Kai had been using Lina as bait to lure gang members who could share information about Scarface’s whereabouts. But the men who often fell for the traps were useless or didn’t know anything. Still, they had managed to gather small pieces of useful information. Each night, they would return to *Mr. Wibblebottom’s Hotel* to rest. It wasn’t romantic between them, but they had spent enough time together to understand each other better. As promised, Kai had paid off Lina’s mother’s hospital bills, and she was finally due for treatment. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Lina was head over heels and promised to do anything for him. Kai told her, “When this is over, I want you to work for me.” Lina blinked. “Work for you?” He nodded. Chapter 405Scarface was hard to miss. His face, covered with scars that crisscrossed from both sides of his cheeks, gave him a feral, menacing look. His eyes were dark and cold, like two black stones, and his smile, if it could be called that, was cruel and twisted. His reputation preceded him—his brutality, his ruthlessness, the way he ruled The Pit. His presence made people move aside, like water parting for a storm.Behind him were five men—his inner circle, his trusted men. Each of them was imposing in their own right, dressed in expensive, sharp suits, the kind of men you wouldn’t dare cross unless you had a death wish. The first was tall, with a thick neck and arms like tree trunks, his face as hard as stone. The second, smaller in stature, but with an intensity in his eyes that spoke volumes, was the one who looked the most alert, scanning the room with a kind of hunger. The third was a broad-shouldered man with dark, slick hair, his grin widening as he scanned the club. The f
