WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME?

“What did you just call me?” Drex thundered again. His eyes were steamy and he was red with anger. His veins and muscles bulged in rhythm to his heavy breathing.

Anger was evident on this huge man's face. Jake felt his courage leave him as soon as he was toe to toe with Drex. He immediately regretted his actions and wished he had kept silent instead of talking back at him. He braced himself for the worst as he attempted to give Drex a befitting response to his question.

As Jake opened his mouth to speak, He was immediately interrupted by a sharp pain that struck his nose and lips. Blood trickled down his nostrils and lips. He spat out a wad of blood mixed with saliva.

“Son of a bitch!” he muttered to himself as he realised that he had been punched in the face by Drex. He was a gym addict himself, and had quite a lot of stamina. If not, the punch would have instantly knocked him off his feet.

He was still contemplating this when the second blow landed, jabbing him on his jaw, and this time, it sent him flying onto the cashier's countertop. Drex charged at him again aiming to hurt him as much as he had hurt his pride. He picked Jake up and tried to hit him again, but Jake dodged out of the way and struck Drex in the face. This only made Drex more upset than he was already. And then he tried to hit Jake again, but Jake manoeuvred and kicked Drex at the back of his legs, making him lose his balance and fall to the ground. He tried to get back to his feet, but he was knocked back down by a sharp kick from Jake.

“Not so tough now, huh? McDUMMYson.” Jake teased.

“Shut the hell up!” Drex yelled as he got a hold of Jake's right leg and tossed him with all his strength.

Jake was surprised at the way this man which he had beaten flung him like a backpack across the room. Drex had gotten to his feet and was ready to deal with Jake. He rushed at him, picked him up and was about to punch him in the throat when he was interrupted by a loud shout.

“STOP! STOP THIS BUFFOONERY!! STOP!!!” yelled Tony Rogers, the restaurant's owner.

“Sir, this assho—” Drex started.

“—SHUT UP! WHAT has GOTTEN INTO YOU?! I want both of you in my office RIGHT THIS INSTANT!!! Or you should be prepared to find a new job immediately. And I mean what I say” Tony instructed.

They both followed Tony as he led them to his office.

“Oh no! I've messed up. Mr. Rogers came back so soon. Why did this have to happen as soon as he gave me a raise? This is bogus!” Jake thought to himself.

“I just pray that somehow, I should just be able to get through this without losing my job.” he muttered to himself.

He took a quick look at Drex, who was still glaring at him. The glare made him uncomfortable, so he looked away immediately.

“He caused all this. Why couldn't he just be a nice guy? Did he have to be a bully? Now I've gotten into trouble for standing up to him. Darn it!” he thought, then took another look at Drex, disgust evident in his face as he stared at the huge bully who was walking with him to his boss's office.

They got to the office and Tony sat down on his chair, stared at the both of them in silence, still obviously very angry at the unfortunate sight he came to meet at his restaurant when he entered a few minutes ago. They both stood there in silence too, waiting for their boss to lash out at them. For a few minutes, they all stood in awkward silence.

“So Kline—since you're the responsible one among the both of you standing here, I would like you to tell me what the hell happened out there!” You fought at the restaurant, in front of customers. What is this? A CIRCUS?! Or a WRESTLING TRYOUTS CENTRE?!” Tony raged.

“Sir, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean for all of this to happen. I just decided to stand up to him, because he's fond of bullying every employee in the restaurant. All the staff complained about him, and he was at it again today. So I had to stand up to him in order to stop him from continually infringing on their rights. I never intended for it to escalate to this point. He was just violent and that's why it got physical.” Jake explained.

“Is this true McDonaldson?!” Tony asked.

“Sir, I—I—he called me McDummyson and—and—I got mad, but I—” Drex attempted to justify his actions.

“I've heard enough from you McDonaldson. Bullying the staff is a very punishable offence, but I'd let you off with a warning this time. Don't disrespect my staff ever again. Are we clear on that?!” Tony asked.

“Yes sir. I'm sorry sir.” Drex apologised.

“I'm not the one you would need to apologise to, but rather the victims of your unfortunate actions, the staff—and especially—Mr. Kline here. I would call for a staff meeting later today where you'd have enough time to apologise to each and every single one of them, one after the other.” Tony instructed.

“Mr. Kline. Once again, you've proved that you're the best employee in this restaurant. I'm impressed by your bravery. Keep it up boy. Although you did get bruised real bad on the lips and nose.” Tony said, facing Jake.

“Thank you sir. As for the bruises, I'll be fine. I've been bruised way more than this before.” Jake replied.

“Well, I don't have a reply to that Kline. So I guess it's time to get back to work. You're both dismissed. REMEMBER! You're on probation now 'Hulky'.” Tony said, referring to Drex.

“Yes sir. I'm sorry, once again.” Drex responded. Then they both left the office and went back to their work posts.

While they were walking back to their work posts, Drex nudged Jake with his elbow, pinned him to the wall and muttered to him in a low menacing voice “We will finish this someday Mr. Boss's Favourite.”
