"How did you know I stay here?" She asked in a sleepy voice.
"Let me say you got a stalker". Michael responded the moment he stopped the car. He couldn't tell her he had known where she stayed since they bumped into each other."But this isn't your house". She looked at him with a questionable gaze while he climbed out to open her side of the door."I know but I want your comfort". He gave her a warm smile. With her drunken state, he would rather walk home on foot than take advantage of her. She had weight more than he expected, he thought to himself as he lifted her into the house. He couldn't help but pause in astonishment at the beauty of her house, he had acknowledged the fact that she was one with good taste. He didn't know where her room was, and with his leg, he kicked the door closed."My room is by the right". She responded like she read his mind, her voice was low as she felt weak.He hurriedly followed her direction, the passage which led to her room was carefully packed with books hung on a shelf like that of a library. He gave a smile while he tried to fight every urge that would want to make him pause to look into one of the books. Her room was cozy and smelt like a female room, he carefully dropped her on the bed, and he noticed she had dozed off. After quietly pulling off her shoes, he made his way to leave when the picture on the wall caught his attention. She stood with a group of people in the picture but what took him aback was the necklace she had on. The necklace in the picture looked exactly like the one he had in the house only that it had a small crack. After a few minutes, he started to leave and carefully closed the door behind him. She must have gone through a lot, he thought to himself. Her house was quiet, he wondered how she was coping living like that, he thought to himself as he walked home. The picture of the necklace brought back memories.SIX YEARS AGOMichael couldn't help but took another bottle of whiskey, he felt heartbroken that Hannah had left him."You're one hell of a drinker". He heard a female voice behind him, she sound sarcastic."I wish you knew". He chuckled loudly and kept quiet. The last thing he wanted was to talk to a stranger, a girl."I know one when I see one". She shouted louder than the music that played.Jiji's spot wasn't his thing till he was played with emotionally, so definitely this stranger knew nothing about him."Thanks". He nodded his head and sipped a little of his drink without glancing at her. He sighed gently he heard nothing from her, he concluded she had gone to look for someone else to be with probably. The thought of Hannah increased emotions in him, he felt down, and after 4years of dating, he never expected a split. He took the last shot of whiskey, he staggered a little as he tried to stand up. He has had enough time to go, he thought to himself while he took a careful step towards the exit."Hey get your hands off me".Michael knew the familiar voice as he got out of the club, he continued walking towards his car, the last thing he needed was another woman."Please stop".With the plea in her voice, he could tell she was in danger which made him turn around. He saw a man trying to kiss her as she tried to struggle from his grip, and the other man was searching for her bag. They were hoodlums. With the anger he felt in his chest, Michael stopped himself from opening his car."I suggest you stop harassing the lady". He shouted at them from afar, and just then they both took off leaving her on the ground. Michael's instinct wanted him to leave her but he suspected the men would be back again. Without a second thought, he carried her to the car. A hotel was the only place he could take her to, he knew nothing about her."What room do you have in order?" He hurriedly asked the receptionist."Room 6 and 8 sir"."Get me room 8". He didn't mind the way she looked at him, he just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible."Follow me, sir". She led him to one of the rooms and quickly opened the door for Michael to enter. She was one hell of a snorer, he thought to himself while he watched her snore for a minute. He quietly left the room and walked up to the receptionist."Umm, sorry here is your payment, you can keep the change. Please I'll be back, need to get some stuff". He wasn't a great liar, but it was the only thing that could reduce the confusion he saw in the receptionist's eyes."No problem sir, you just have to sign here". She slightly smiled as she gave him the book."Yeah". He smiled back while he signed. He left the hotel gently but the moment he got to his car, he raced off without looking back. That was the last he saw about her and two days later, he found the necklace on the seat of his car with her bag. He couldn't trace her since he saw no card to identify her, he concluded the necklace was a good luck charm.PRESENT DAY"Give me a shot of whiskey". This was just what he needed before he went home. He couldn't be so sure she was the one, but the probability was 50/50. He sighed deeply as he gulped down the small shot of whiskey. He tipped the barman while he stood up and headed to stop a taxi, though his house wasn't too far he couldn't walk either."White House". He announced to the driver the moment he entered the taxi. Just then he sighted a black Camry on its light which was so bright. Michael felt he was overthinking and relaxed in the taxi."We're here sir". The driver announced after some minutes."Here". He paid the driver and jumped off. He was about to cross the road when he sighted a bright light shining on his face, it was so close to him that he realized it was a car and took a step backward. He noticed it was the Camry and was on full speed. Someone was trying to kill him, he thought to himself. He waited for a while to see if the car would be back but it didn't come back, without a second thought he hurriedly entered his house and locked it immediately. He couldn't believe he could hear the beat from his heart as he wondered who it was."Hello". He answered with a sleepy voice, the phone had rung up twice before he picked it up."Michael, it's me". The excitement from Helen's voice had cleared up the little sleep left in his eyes."Did I wake you up?""Ugh- not really". He didn't want her to feel guilty waking him up."You're such a terrible liar". She chuckles at him.He had been caught, he silently gave out relief she understood him."I want you to meet my friends". She gave up the suspense."What!" He found himself almost screaming."Is anything wrong? You know you can tell me". "No nothing, just trying to express the happiness I feel". He kicked himself for telling a lie again."Good. So I'll come to pick you up by 4 then"."That's great". He could give an excuse at the moment, but then she would realize he was lying to her. She wouldn't even believe him in the first place about his suspicion that her friends were not who they were. He had seen one of them in the gym and didn't like the way his stares were and
"You're not looking good, we could go back if you want". She turned to catch a glance at him.'Yes, we should'. He said to himself without letting her hear him. "I'm okay". He tried to muster enough words out of his mouth, probably he was thinking too much and he was wrong, he thought to himself."How have been pulling things through Helen?"Michael had heard one of them ask Helen, he looked at the plate of rice that had just been served, he no longer had the appetite."He's been helping". She brushed his shoulder lightly."That's good, right". Charles faced his friends this time.Michael sensed they were mocking him with their tone, it was like they didn't want Helen to feel bad."That's right". He heard the others murmur. The silence stung him as he tried to imagine what they were up to in their heads."So you work at the gym?" Robbin asked while he played with the toothpick in his mouth, his eyes fixed on it."Ya, I do". Michael felt the words stuck in his throat."You date your cl
"Hello, hello". He found it difficult to hear the voice from the other end, it felt like the person had intentionally kept quiet to observe. "Hello". He found himself almost shouting, the worst was that the call had almost made him slip from the bathroom while rushing to pick it up."We are watching you, Mich".The coarse voice didn't scare him, the name the caller had called him was scary, nobody knew him by that name. Except someone had leaked him out, he tried mustering enough courage."Who are you?" He felt his voice a little shaky but had a little grip on it."Just mind your business and stay away from her". Immediately the call hung up.Michael felt his anger rising but there was nothing to distract him from it. He didn't know if he should go to the gym or trace the call. A thought came into his head as he picked up the phone and dialed Helen, at least making sure she was safe."Hey, how are you?" He asked as he tried his best to bury the curiosity he felt rising."Am fine, abo
Ferdinand had always felt Yale state was a sight to behold, he had never wanted to leave this place but for his uncle who valued education more than anything. They had allowed Michael to stay here since he had an interest in sports and body build-up. He saw it difficult to catch up with Michael, instead, he rested his back on the car while he filled his eyes with the environment. He enjoyed what he saw but he didn't notice the man that approached him."Are you looking for someone?" The man asked calmly.Ferdinand observed that he should be in his mid forty and security as well."No, I came with Michael". He gave a wink to the man who recognized the name."He should be in the office".Ferdinand nodded his head as he wondered how many people were in charge of the place."Any problem"."No". He turned around to know the feminine voice he had heard."Michael?" She stood dumbfounded, he looked odd in the way he looked."Not Michael, that's my cousin. I'm Ferdinand". He gave out his hand to
He couldn't help it, he pretended to be asleep, the moment he heard the door closed he ran out to see Ferdinand drive his car at speed. Without a second thought, he entered his second car which he barely made use of, he carefully followed his cousin, he couldn't afford to reveal himself. He had to make sure his cousin never harmed Helen, though he knew his cousin was the safest person on earth.Michael knew Helen's house without any description so he got to her house before Ferdinand got to her. He immediately switched off his car ignition to avoid attention while he quietly watched Ferdinand drive to the front of Helen's house.***Ferdinand watched in astonishment as Helen stepped out from the house, her yellow gown which was below her knew brought out the exquisite beauty in her. He shook the thought from his head as he stepped out of the car to assist her in opening her side of the seat."I'm helpless with words right now, pardon me". He was almost stammering."Is everything okay?
"Good morning". He had noticed the slight change in the behavior of his cousin since he got back from the date he had with Helen."Ya". He kept his head low on his system, the last person he wanted to talk to was Ferdinand. He was lucky he wasn't caught in the act."I'm going on vacation with you". He announced, he didn't care if he heard or not."We'll see about that?" Michael got up and headed for the bathroom, a cold bath was all he wanted."No, I'm serious". He lifted his hand to touch Michael who had already pushed his hand off and gave out a punch to his face which sent Ferdinand staggering to the ground.Ferdinand touched his nose to feel his blood drop almost immediately, he feared he had broken his nose."You would do no such, we agreed you would stay here in New York and watch the gym". He tried his best to control the breath he had taken in so as not to explode."You've always told me what to do and decided the friends I make, why can't you let me make this one"."You know
"You sure this looks okay?" Michael asked his cousin whom he had woken up from bed."You should remember am not your girlfriend my dear couz". He stated as he rolled to the other side of the bed while he stretched his body."You're just jealous and trust me, you'll miss me". Michael gave out a wicked laugh."I can never miss you, not now or ever". Ferdinand gave Michael a disgusted look."We will see about that". Michael had staggered home with his cousin almost forgetting where he had dropped the key to the house. They both woke up and pretended as if nothing happened."I would stroll to the gym once I'm done here"."Trust me you would love the place". Michael winked at his cousin."Like I haven't been there before". Ferdinand felt Michael's line of the job was the most boring though he found it difficult to forget about Helen. She was elegant and beautiful, he had given Michael his word to forget about her but not the vacation.Just then the phone rang, Michael had gone to change hi
Helen was a typical description of an intelligent and goal-setter girl. She hated bullies and she hated to be bullied and this always got her in trouble. At age 12 she was already in junior high school and at age 14 she was already through with high school. Helen had gotten herself lots of awards to keep her in school. Her parents were from Yale state, not rich but well-to-do. While her dad was a contractor, her mum was a civil servant. Helen had siblings, she was the third out of four. Paul, Jason, and Catherine. Catherine was the first, followed by Paul and Jason came after Helen. But none were like Helen. Today was Cathy's wedding day, and Helen was worst in regards to fashion. Tired of checking through her wardrobe, she decided to wear a Jean and a big top. She heard steps behind her but was focused on her outfits. "No Helen, you are not wearing that on my day", Cathy said as she entered her baby sister's room. "Aww, Sister you know I hate gowns", Helen replied immediately befor
