It was a race between both parties with one trying his hardest to fly upwards and out of the encirclement in time and the other trying to prevent its prey from escaping.

The Charybdis was mightily enraged by Arran's earlier attack on it and it doubled its effort to close the dome as soon as possible. The amount of damage that it had suffered from Arran's attack was naturally minimal and it did not actually hurt it. Instead, it was the momentary pain and feeling of numbness in its tentacle that had slowed its attack that had truly enraged the Charybdis.

Even if the Charybdis had only slowed down for a split second due to the lightning attack, that was enough time for Arran to reduce the distance between himself and the top of the dome by quite a lot.

Arran after seeing that his attack was effective against the Charybdis, he was delighted but he did not hesitate to use this tiny window of opportunity to close the distance.
