The situation had taken a strange and confusing turn. Only Sable and Pamela probably understood what was going on. Arran certainly didn’t.Just then, Bernard arrived beside Arran and the others having retreated from the battle center. His arm hung limply beside him, blood dripping from his fist. To be able to break through Bernard’s defense and injure him severely, it was clear how powerful that final attack had been. But transcendents were very tough so this much wouldn’t affect him.Urgh!Groaning slightly as he supported himself, Bernard spoke.“What’s the situation? Someone care to explain it to me?”In response, Pamela shunned him swiftly.“Shush! Be quiet. You don’t want to draw their attention to us.”Her tone serious and tense Pamela possessed a certain severity that forced the usually belligerent Aeth to stifle the retort he was about to utter.Feeling curious, Arran cautiously whispered a question to her.“Can you explain what is happening? What did you do?”Pamela didn’t an
Pamela didn’t clarify what she meant by her previous words and nobody inquired either. Bernard simply asked, “So what do we do now?”“We wait,” Pamela replied.“It shouldn’t be much longer now. In the meantime try to recover your wound. We might need you to fight later.”“I don’t need you to remind me,” Bernard said. Still, he began circulating his energy to recover from his injury.Bang!Just then, a sudden sound like chains being broken rang out, reaching the quartet. Following it, a beastial roar echoed into their eardrums.Everybody reacted immediately to the sound.“What was that?” Arran asked.Pamela frowned heavily her eyes going to the netherworld flame that had gradually begun to dim.Eventually, Pamela said, “I guess it’s over. An outcome had already been decided.”The others also noticed the waning flames of the netherworld and thinking about the effects Pamela told them it possessed, they immediately guessed what had happened.“So your curse failed to affect the enemy, did
“What the hell is that? It’s so ugly!” As soon as the enemy revealed itself, Pamela let off a small scream as she stared horrifying at the creature for no other reason than it being ugly. One shouldn’t forget, that Pamela was a truly spoilt and pampered princess, and that much about her hadn’t changed over the years. So she really couldn’t stand seeing something so ugly and malformed. And malformed it really was. Even the others couldn’t stand the monstrosity of the creature before them and they unconsciously averted their gazes away from it. This was a terrible flaw that Arran was quick to point out. “Everyone, guard your minds! Something is wrong with this creature. I think there’s a spell placed on its body to induce horror on everybody that sees it forcing them to look away from it. Don’t be ambushed by it!” Arran’s words immediately shook the others who quickly realized what was going on. It was something like having a fear effect added to something that forces people lo
Bernard’s injury hadn’t fully healed. But it didn’t hinder his combat ability anymore. Charging head first at the decadent horror, Bernard once more engaged it head-on.This time, none of the others stood on the sidelines. Now that they knew who their enemy was, they had to deal with it accordingly. Not much was known about decadent horrors so there was no way to tailor a strategy directly targeting it. I’m that case, the best way was to attack directly and deal with things as they went.So far, from the beginning of the battle till now, about 20 minutes have already passed. The Wellington’s had not yet joined in the battle and Arran’s group of four didn’t know what was holding them up. But it didn’t matter. They would still have to face it head-on.I’m the vanguard was still Bernard who engaged directly with the decadent horror. His fists flew frantically at the opponent in a flurry of moves, trying to land a hit on its body.Bernard didn’t employ the use of any weapons, relying sole
A powerful suction force acted on the bodies of Arran and the others pulling them uncontrollably toward the horror’s open maw. Within its jaws was a green void swirling evilly that consumed everything that approached.Light and gravity were also pulled into the void and swallowed completely creating a blackhole effect around the horror’s snout. Without a doubt, no good end would befall anyone once sucked into the green void.At this moment, just as the others were about to use their means to avoid this latest attack, suddenly, a cackle of electricity could be heard all around them. The surrounding space suddenly developed into a zone possessing properties of negatively and positively charged elements which generated bolts of lightning when oscillated at high frequencies. It was as if a thunderstorm had suddenly descended on the battlefield causing everyone to look around in shock. After a moment of surprise, everybody immediately turned around to see Arran bathed in flashing electric
Bernard dove through the thunderstorm with several bolts of lightning, each tens of meters thick, avoided and swarmed around him like they were alive.Ignoring all this, the only thing on Bernard’s mind was his target. The distance to the target was short and Bernard arrived in an instant. The decadent horror remained motionless, his huge snout open while the green void swirled continuously without stopping. The blackhole effect around the horror has disappeared since gravity and light were no longer being pulled towards it along it to see the rows of uneven jagged teeth lining the inside of the horror’s mouth and the green void peeking glaringly within. When Bernard got closer, he felt the same uncontrollable suction force that pulled at him previously, only it was much weaker and so could no longer make him lose control of his body.At this moment, Bernard himself suddenly started showing some changes. From out of nowhere, a pair of earrings suddenly appeared on Bernard’s earlobes.
Arran felt enlightened after Sable broke down the attributes of Bernard’s evolved powers. He only had one thing to say to that… ‘how brutal!’This was a power that sacrificed the life of one to kill a thousand. It was brutally simple but effective, like using gasoline to quench a fire. Now the question is — was it worth it?Arran couldn’t answer that. He hadn’t encountered a situation that would force him to give up his life to survive.Arran tried to imagine a scenario where he would be forced to sacrifice his own life for greater power. He tried to imagine what kind of decision he would make then, but Arran realized it was useless. No matter how he thought about it, Arran felt that he would never make such a choice but without actually experiencing it himself, any choice he made now was moot.So Arran quickly forgot about it and continued watching the battle.Who would win?Was it Bernard who was putting his life on the line for this fight, or the decadent horror whose full strength
As the battle progressed, Arran suddenly felt a few presences coming from earth. Turning, he saw Joyner and the others who were finally joining them. Sable and Pamela also noticed this and turned around to welcome them. The wellington's looked worse for wear as if they had gone through an ordeal of their own.Without exchanging any pleasantries, Joyner quickly asked after seeing Bernard fighting alone.“What’s the situation like? I see Prince Bernard has unlocked his first seal — is the enemy so tough?”As quickly as possible, Sable gave a rundown of the situation so far. When the Wellington’s heard everything, they could only sigh in pity.Joyner said, “A decadent horror eh? Never thought I would fight another one so soon. Fortunately, I’m not the same person I was before.”Confidence rang through Joyner’s words as if it would be nothing to take the enemy. Nobody said anything. Instead, Arran asked, “What took you guys so long?”As if remembering something after hearing Arran’s quest
