Everybody present here looked at Carrum's retreating figure as he made his way back to the participants' viewing stage. As they all looked at him, there was an unexplainable look in each of their eyes, and everybody had their own thoughts about Carrum.

There was silence on the platform for a brief moment, but eventually, the first person to speak was the Enlightened Old Immortal.

"It's a shame that such a promising young man had succumbed to the temptation of the shades. Right now, his future is lost and there is no hope of saving him anymore."

"Indeed, it is such a pity..." Councilman Taylor agreed.

"This is as much a failure on our part for not protecting our people well as it is his for giving in to temptation," he said.

Councilwoman Alyss, who had been quiet for the most part throughout the entire ceremony, suddenly scoffed as she said.
