The doubt that Arran had could not be said to be a big deal or it could be a really big deal instead. Either way, Arran felt that his doubts were pretty significant.
In the beginning, when Arran had first had noticed the series of anomalies that had given rise to his doubts, because of the commotion at the moment coupled with the fact that Arran could not piece some of these puzzle pieces together, Arran had not been able to come up with a reasonably complete picture in which his doubts would fit in. Now that Arran had some time to think where he was not being hunted by man-eating monsters, he had finally put the puzzle pieces together and had come up with a relatively complete picture in mind.
The first piece of the puzzle that Arran noticed was the absence of any of the instructors or the authority figures of the academy.
