All of them that were participating in the assessment were equipped with a similar device like this one that they could use to look up simple information on and even in the universe it was a very popular contraption that was necessary for everyday living.
For the cadets, they could use this specially designed communication device to do all sorts of things from communicating with their fellow cadets to surfing for information in the central network, searching for missions and bounties for those that were out adventuring, and even sending distress signals outside when caught in a dangerous situation.
