The sun had barely risen over the city when Katherine and James pulled up outside A Group’s towering headquarters. Dressed sharply, they carried themselves with forced confidence, hoping to leave behind the humiliation of the previous night.

As they approached the sleek glass entrance, a pair of suited security personnel stepped forward, blocking their path.

“We’re here to see the chairman,” Katherine announced coolly, flashing her best corporate smile.

One guard didn’t even glance at her. “Your names?”

“Katherine Shaw and James Franx,” she answered. “We had a partnership agreement that was—temporarily disrupted. We’d like to appeal directly to the chairman.”

The guards looked at each other, then back at her with practiced indifference.

“You’re not on the approved list. No entry without an appointment.”

James stepped forward, irritation already creeping into his voice. “We don’t need an appointment. The chairman himself approved our deal. If he hears we’ve been turned away at the door, do you really think he’ll be pleased?”

“I suggest you step back,” one guard said flatly. “Final warning.”

Katherine’s face flushed with anger. “You don’t know who you’re talking to—”

But before she could finish, her voice cut off mid-sentence.

Across the polished driveway, Yemin and Faye arrived, walking side by side. Faye carried a slim folder with her project proposal; Yemin, calm as always, was dressed casually yet impeccably, the kind of confidence that needed no suit to command respect.

Katherine’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What the hell are they doing here?”

James muttered under his breath, “Did they follow us?”

Katherine didn’t wait. She stormed forward, voice raised and full of venom. “Well, well. Looks like the cockroach couldn’t resist crawling back to where he doesn’t belong.”

Faye flinched slightly at the sudden aggression, but Yemin remained unfazed.

“This place isn’t for nobodies like you,” Katherine continued with a sneer. “Did you come to beg the CEO for another table scrap? Or is she—” she motioned to Faye with a spiteful smirk “—here to clean the lobby for him?”

Yemin calmly met her gaze. “Actually, we’re here to sign the contract.”

Katherine and James blinked, stunned for a second—then burst into laughter.

“You?” James laughed. “Don’t make me laugh. Her company is circling the drain. Group A doesn’t sign contracts with dying nobodies.”

Katherine crossed her arms smugly. “Drop the act, Yemin. We already know the truth. You’re just some charity case the CEO is helping because you once assisted his mother. That doesn’t make you powerful—it makes you a temporary favor. Nothing more.”

She turned to Faye, wearing a look of theatrical pity. “And you—don’t let that ring or a few sweet words fool you. He’s not who you think he is. He’s not rich. He’s not powerful. He’s not even relevant. He’s still the same pathetic man I kicked out of my house.”

Faye’s brows furrowed, but she didn’t speak. She turned to Yemin instead, watching for his response.

But Yemin only smiled faintly, as if none of their words mattered in the slightest.

“You really think I’m going to let you get away with this?” Katherine snapped, her voice sharp with venom. “You’ve fooled everyone for now, but it won’t last.”

Faye’s expression finally cracked. For too long, she had held her silence—tried to be the bigger person, tried to walk away from Katherine’s cruelty. But now?

Now it was enough.

“Why are you so obsessed with dragging us down, Katherine?” Faye’s voice was tense with rising anger. “What did I ever do to you, other than exist?”

Katherine scoffed. “You stole everything. My spotlight. My deal. And now, you’re standing next to a man— whom I hate most in the world.”

Faye stepped forward. “I didn’t steal anything. You lost it yourself. Maybe if you hadn’t treated everyone around you like trash, you wouldn’t be here today.”

James rolled his eyes, but stayed silent, the sting of yesterday’s slap still fresh.

Yemin, however, didn’t utter a word.

His gaze swept over Katherine and James like they weren’t even worth responding to. Then, without warning, he turned and gently took Faye’s hand in his.

Katherine’s eyes widened.

Faye’s heart skipped—but Yemin remained calm, casual, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Without so much as a backward glance, he walked toward the entrance, Faye by his side.

Katherine’s eyes followed them, her face twisted in disbelief.

“They’ll be stopped,” she muttered, as if convincing herself. “Security won’t let them in. They’ll be turned away like us.”

James nodded, arms crossed. “Let’s see how long this little act lasts.”

But then—

The guards at the doors didn’t move.

They simply stepped aside, heads bowed respectfully as Yemin and Faye passed through with ease. The large glass doors slid open for them without delay.

And just like that—

They were gone.

Inside.

Unchallenged.

Katherine stood frozen.

“No,” she whispered. “No, no, no… This can’t be real.”

James blinked in disbelief, jaw tightening.

“That’s not possible… They didn’t even stop to ask for ID…”

Katherine’s breathing quickened. “He’s just… a charity case. He helped the CEO’s mother, that’s all. There’s no way he’s someone important!”

But even as she said it, her voice cracked.Because deep down—she didn’t believe it anymore.

And the sight of Faye—smiling, confident, walking beside the man who had destroyed everything Katherine built—was too much to bear.

“She took everything from me,” Katherine hissed, fists clenched. “That contract was mine. She doesn’t deserve it. She doesn’t deserve him.

But it didn’t matter what she thought. Because the doors had closed.

And Katherine Shaw was still standing outside.

The guest list for her birthday celebration was growing impressively—CEOs, socialites, and influential figures from across the city had all confirmed their attendance. Yet her victory felt hollow after the devastating loss of the Group A contract."James, I want this birthday party to be more than just a celebration," she declared, setting her phone down with purpose. "I want to use it as an opportunity to destroy both Morgan and Faye."James looked up from his laptop, a slow, menacing smile spreading across his face. "I like the way you think, darling. What did you have in mind?""I want to humiliate them so thoroughly that neither will ever recover—personally or professionally." Katherine's eyes gleamed with malice. Yemin leaned forward, his eyes focused intently on Faye as she spoke about the ring. The background noise of the café seemed to fade away as he waited for her answer."Actually," Faye said, stirring her coffee absently, "I think Katherine mentioned something about it when she was hurling accusations at me. But I'm not sure why you're asking about it?""I'm curious," Yemin replied carefully. "She mentioned you had a ring similar to one I own."Faye's brow furrowed as she searched her memories. "I did have a special ring once. It had an unusual pattern—almost like half of a complete design. I haven't seen it in years though.""Do you remember how you got it?" Yemin asked, his heart racing."It was a gift," Faye smiled softly at the recollection. "From a young boy, actually. I was maybe eleven or twelve at the time. I found him under a bridge during a rainstorm. He looked half-starved, poor thing."Yemin's breath caught in his throat. "What did you do?""I shared my lunch with him," Faye

"We've employed every cutting-edge treatment protocol available in modern medicine. The afternoon sun cast long shadows across the city as Faye ended her call with Katherine. Her mind was buzzing with conflicting thoughts about the birthday invitation and the seemingly sincere reconciliation attempt. While relief washed over her about mending their friendship, something about Katherine's eagerness to include Yemin in the party invitation struck her as odd.Faye's fingers hovered over Yemin's contact information. She needed to hear his voice, to thank him properly for the Morgan Group contract, and perhaps to understand more about who he truly was."Hello?" Yemin's voice came through after two rings."Yemin, it's Faye. I was wondering if we could meet? I never properly thanked you for your help with Morgan Group."There was a brief pause on the line. "I'm actually tied up at the moment," Yemin replied, his voice measured but with a hint of strain. "I'm at Chairman Hargrove's residence."Faye nearly dropped her phone. "Chairman Hargrove? "I know Mr. Ravollor doesn't look the part, but he saved your father's life three years ago when everyone else had given up."Alexander's jaw clenched, his expensive suit barely concealing the tension in his shoulders. "Are you out of your mind, Marcus? Look at him!" He gestured dismissively toward Yemin. "My father needs the country's top medical experts, not some street vagrant you've dragged in here."The son's resistance is unusual, Yemin thought, studying Alexander's body language. All Marcus knew was that Yemin had saved his boss's life years ago using unorthodox methods, and that the Chairman trusted him implicitly."It's not important," Yemin replied calmly.
