Chapter five

"Our sources have revealed that the man in the viral tape last night is Lecter James, the heir of a multi-million empire, and current CEO of-" Rand switched off the television as he drowned himself in alcohol. Getting sacked by Lecter was exacting a heavy toll on him.

The clip showcasing Lecter saving Reginald had gone viral, and Rand had hoped that finally, he would be able to show Lecter's face to Venita.

But the tape showed a blind spot, and Lecter's face was hidden.

Venita stepped into the living room in a skimpy red dress with black heels. She shot Rand a glare as she began to apply lipstick.

"Where are you going?" Rand asked her.

"To seek an audience with Lecter James. If he wants me to convince him with my body, I'll do so," Venita stated without remorse.

Rand slowly placed the cup in his hand on the ground and frowned at her.

"We are engaged, Venita!" He yelled at her.

"That means nothing to me! Let me make this clear, Rand. There is nothing I wouldn't do to get what I want. Better come to terms with that, or the engagement is off. You're useless to me now after all," she said and dashed out of the house while Rand crashed into the chair.

As he consumed even more alcohol, Venita drove off to Sunrise Enterprise.

She exhaled and quickly stepped out of the car with confidence. Venita knew she looked beautiful.

"He won't be able to refuse me now," she said to herself and giggled. However, at the door, the security men blocked her path.

"What are you imbeciles doing? Let me through!" She snapped.

"We have specific instructions never to let you into this building," they told her. Venita could barely contain her shock.

"Instructions from who?" She asked them, still trying to maintain her composure.

"Lecter James. The boss. You have to leave now or we will force you to vacate this premises," they said to her. She knew they weren't bluffing.

"Why does he hate me so much?" Venita pondered. She felt worthless as she returned to her car. But then, she saw a Benz coming toward the car park.

Venita watched closely as the driver stepped down. It was Lecter.

He was dressed in simple jeans and a shirt, and when Venita saw him, she scoffed.

"You've got to be kidding me!" She snapped and dashed to him. "What are you doing here, Lecter? Oh, let me guess. You're a driver now. I guess you're lucky after all. This is a great job for someone like you," she said to him with disgust on her face.

However, Venita couldn't help but notice something different about Lecter. It was like he had changed. It's probably the new job, she said to herself.

"I see you came to seduce the CEO," Lecter said while gazing at her outfit. Then he scoffed. "Aren't you engaged to the love of your life? Or do you want to cheat on him too?" Lecter asked.

"It's none of your business!" Venita snapped as the words hit her.

"Leave this place, Venita. The CEO is not interested in the likes of you. Trust me, I would know," Lecter said to her and walked into the building. Venita shuddered.

"How dare a common driver speak to me in such a manner?" She fumed. Then, her phone rang. It was Joe, her brother.

"You better have a good reason for calling me, Joe," she said to him while she picked up the phone.

"I just robbed a museum! There was this artifact that's worth millions on the black market-," Joe said to her with enthusiasm but Venita's heart skipped a beat.

"You did what?"

"You said we couldn't secure the contract. My girlfriend needed her holiday and there was this gig. I had to do it," Joe said nonchalantly. Venita could barely breathe.

"Tell me you didn't rob the Orient Museum," she stated, but when Joe remained silent, Venita fought back tears. "You stole from Lecter James? The man who I'm desperately trying to convince to give us a contract? His family owns that museum. How could you be so stupid, Joe?" Venita cried out.

"Relax, sis. The artifact will be gone before you know it. And sis, we have a bugget problem," Joe said to her. Venita sighed as she brushed her hair off her face.

"What now?" She asked.

"Father is back home. And he's... Furious. I think you should get over here, now," he said to her and then hung up. Venita sighed. Her father would not tolerate failure, and she had failed on every angle.
