VERMIN

"I'm still scared." Karen whispered, her heart was beating frantically. James turned towards her and flashed her a small smile, doing everything to take away her fears.

"You don't have to be. I heavily doubt it's him. It will never be him."

The silence was so deafening that you could hear a pin drop. Everyone watched with bated breath as the figure approached the doorway.

Nobody had the faintest idea who it was gonna be. Karen had her heart in her hand despite the fact that James was doing everything to calm her down and ask her not to worry. She felt a foreboding that something was very wrong, and she was rarely wrong when she felt like that. Now it was happening again, in a time she wished it wouldn't.

That's when the figure came into view, revealing Andrew.

He was dressed in a tuxedo, and glasses. He exuded an air of confidence that commanded the focus of everyone who was present. He was given a standing ovation as he held out his hands for the two beautiful women. They interlinked hands and walked him to the centre of the stage. A smile left his lips when he noted Karen at the corner of the room with James. Everything was gradually falling into place and soon he would show them what it meant to make a big mistake. There wasn't going to be any form of mercy now that it was his time, because they treated him like sh*t when it was their time.

It was unbelievable to think that he was feeding from hand to mouth a few weeks ago, but now things had turned around for the better.

Murmuring sounds were already sweeping through the room as everyone talked about him and his recent accomplishments which were just out of this world.

"Isn't he the one who bought eighty percent of that hotel?" One of the guests whispered to the other, frankly concerned about his mysterious fame.

"He's been buying a lot of properties since then. He also owns Comsor now Where! I'm shocked nobody's heard of him until now. Where does he even come from?" The question was met with a shake of head.

"I'd like everyone present here to give a standing ovation as we all welcome the chief executive officer of the Comsor Terrain company, Mr. Andrew Raine!" The Mc announced excitedly as another standing ovation took place. It went on for a while until Andre himself raised his hand, thanking everyone and silencing them at the same time.

Gasps of disbelief rippled through the crowd as they struggled to comprehend what the hell was going on, especially those who knew him before now.

"Impossible!" James gasped as he stared wide-eyed at Andrew. He looked back at Karen to check on her. She had slumped back to her chair, clutching her stomach as it churned with anxiousness. She was trying so hard to process what the fuck she had just heard and seen.

Other important guests had expressed their profound shock as well, the likes of Mark Twain who he had invited on purpose were all present, and he was ready to give them a piece of what they deserved.

"Would you like to say something to your guests before we begin?" The Mc asked. Andrew nodded almost immediately as his eyes surveyed the crowd for Karen and Twain. It wasn't long before he traced them again. He locked eyes with Karen who was still sitting, glaring at him in pure rage. Taking the microphone, he began immediately.

"I would like to thank everyone for honouring my invitation. I wouldn't like to waste your time, so, before we begin, I would like to get rid of some vermin. There are some people among us who shouldn't be here." Another murmured gasp ran through the crowd as the people wondered who he was talking about. Everyone glanced around, utterly confused. Just immediately, his guards walked in and stood by his side, scanning the arena while waiting for his bidding to single out the "vermin" as he had called it. He pointed towards Karen and James.

"Get them out here right now." The rock-faced bodyguards got into action immediately and arrested the duo, before bringing them up to the stage. Karen was shouting on top of her voice and struggling so the guards would let her go, but they didn't budge an inch with her request. She was utterly confused. James was livid as well, but the guards were too strong for him.

"What is the meaning of this madness?" Karen growled, before trying to lunge himself towards him. The camera flashes were now becoming more and more frequent as the media captured what was going on.

"I command you to stop this nonsense or I'm suing you for assault." She screamed, utterly embarrassed.

"You dare not talk to me like that! And let me make it clear to you, I am no longer the Andrew Raine you used to know. So mind the way you run that shithole of a mouth." He thundered back. "And where is your invitation card by the way? Prove it!" The guards released her, before handing her purse back to her. She hesitated for a moment, choking with hatred as she delved into her purse to get her card out.

Unknown to her, Andrew had instructed his guards before now to clear the evidence. It was planned, one of the ways she was going to pay for the things she had done to him.

"I-I can't find it... i-it was here!" She stuttered, frantically searching through her purse but saw nothing in the end. "Somebody must have taken it! It was all your plan!" Her fists were clenched as she spat out her anger, before trying to attack him.

The guards held her back immediately, holding her back. Andrew chuckled. There was a cold glint in his eyes as he stared down at her.

Deep down, he didn't feel so good doing this, but he knew he had to teach her a lesson. When he had to go through her unbelievable wickedness all these years, she didn't show him any form of mercy and now was his time.

"Ah, Karen, always the drama queen. You have some nerve showing up here."

"Don't talk to her like that!" James growled, trying to defend her.

"I'll have you locked up if you don't shut up this minute. And mind you, I'm not joking." James was seething with pure rage. He turned back to Karen. Her eyes were filled with unshed tears. "I'm only going to let you out of here because I want to. There is nothing between us any longer and I don't want to see you around me again. Is that understood?"

"You think you can threaten me?" She fired back, defiant as hell. "Well, I am not going to stand for it. I won't let you do this to me! You think you've won, Andrew? You think you can just throw us out like trash, but I won't rest until you've paid for this! " He sneered back at her.

"Is that a threat, Karen? Well, let me make one thing clear. I hold all the cards now, and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Guards get her out here right now!" She was about to say something else when the guards began to drag them out of the arena. Andrew smiled as he watched her rage and curse on her way.

Looks like someone would be spending the week in the news headlines.

"This is just the beginning of what I'm going to do to you, Karen." He whispered, before turning back to the crowd before him.

“Sorry for the little disruption. Let’s get cracking, shall we?”
