Carter's dad, dismissive and arrogant, responded, "I asked if you all were up for this job before we came here. It's your conscience messing with you. Let him come. We'll deal with him when the time comes."

Logan's eyes widened as he saw Daniel's dad nearing his car, an unsettling realization settling in. The time for hesitation had passed; he had to act swiftly. With a silent exhale, Logan steeled himself, drawing upon the reservoirs of strength that life's trials had bestowed upon him.

"I've faced worse," he muttered to himself, a mantra to drown out the nagging doubts echoing in his mind.
