Gavin ended up giving Kane to Clay when he said his full name. Who would have thought that Kane was the nephew of the AC branch head? It just made sense that they were both eccentric and stubborn.

“You’re as loyal to your boss as ever.” Gavin shook his head in disappointment.

“Don’t give me that. You even become the babysitter of his nephew.”

Gavin rolled his eyes when Clay gave the unconscious Kane a piggyback ride. Arisa just could not understand what they were talking about, but she kept listening just in case they started talking about something important.

“We’re heading home now,” Clay said as he put Kane in the backseat of his car. “Do you want me to give you guys a ride?”

“No, thanks.” Gavin immediately declined. “I’ll teleport them back to the guild.”

“What a convenient ability…” Clay entered his car and started the engine. “Thank you for knocking him out, Mr. Roa.”

Viktor just nodded his head and the car took off. Left with the older guys, Arisa could not bring herself to ask

Kane was in front of Clay’s laptop, talking with Mr. Romero via video call. He was reporting everything to him and the man looked like he was in deep thought. Just like Kane, he was not expecting the devouring to manifest since he also knew how Kane spent his mana regularly in his training. Was it really because of his frustration?“Are you trying to do something?” Mr. Romero asked. He knew that Kane would not feel frustrated unless there was something that he really wanted and he believed that he could have it.“Yes. I’ve been trying to use my mana outside of my body,” Kane answered truthfully. “When I do land purifications, I always use a special dagger to bring the mana outside of my body.”“You wanted to cast magic?” Mr. Romero asked, his tone full of curiosity. He was aware that Kane was able to manipulate his mana to strengthen his body and increase his speed. Why would he think about casting magic?“Can’t I?” Kane asked. He was still not sure if it was possible for him to cast

The uncomfortable ride ended and Kane did not expect that Arisa would bring him somewhere near the sea. They stopped near a beach and he thought that they would enter there, but Arisa pulled him towards a small hut just a few meters away from the beach entrance.“Hey, did you even get permission from the owner of this hut?” Kane asked when Arisa just barged in and they found that no one was inside.“I don’t need to do that; this is my house.” Arisa smiled as she climbed up the window nook.“This is your house?” Kane looked around. It was an old hut with little to no furniture. The thick bags of dust and the cobwebs also signified that no one have lived there for a long time.“Don’t look around like I am such a big disappointment.” Arisa laughed. “It’s the truth that this house is mine. My Mom and Dad used to be the caretaker and managers of the beach and as a part of the compensation, this small land beside the beach was given to them. My father built this hut for me when my mother di

“Seems like we’ll go to another mission tomorrow,” Arisa said after checking her phone. Since Arisa told their master that he was with her, Viktor only sent the message to her and asked her to relay it to him.She insisted to give Kane a ride home and she invited herself inside Kane’s apartment despite the man’s stern refusal. She looked around the apartment and realized that it was so like him to keep his living space neat and clean. Aside from the fact that he was living alone, he was always outside so he would not need to clean all the time.“Where are we going? Did Master give additional instructions?”Kane who just came from the kitchen put down a pitcher of juice on the center table and gave her a glass. Then he went back to the kitchen to get the cookies that they bought before they went home. Before he settled down across Arisa, he put the cookies down on the center table first and get a glass of juice for himself.Arisa shrugged. She already told him the content of the messag

Kane found himself getting off in a silent terminal. Their master said nothing about their new mission, he just asked them to follow him and then set off to where they were at that moment.“They made proper safety measures,” Viktor mumbled to himself. He opened his bag and gave each disciple a face mask.Arisa looked confused but she wore the mask without a question uttered. They followed their master quietly, afraid to disrupt the deafening silence of the place. As they walked further, Arisa noticed that they were closing into a village surrounded by barricades. It was full of warnings for outsiders not to come in and she was surprised when she realized that the letters on some banners were made of blood.“Master, can we really go in?” Arisa seemed concerned but when Viktor pass through the barricades, the two did not have much of a choice but to follow. The whole village was silent and there was not a single person outside that they could ask. But since their master seemed to be fam

“We’ll never know unless we give it a try,” Arisa shrugged when she heard Kane’s mumbling.Kane nodded his head when he realized that Arisa must have misunderstood him. But either way, he would still need to wipe out that monster’s nest before he could try looking for the reason it manifested. While walking, a woman came running outside her house towards them.“Sir, please… help us!” the woman tried to hold Kane but Viktor pulled him away and the woman fell to the ground.“Master!” Arisa was about to help the woman to stand up again but her master stopped her.“Please… help me.” The woman sobbed as her shoulders shook violently. “I don’t want to die.”Arisa’s heart broke while watching the woman cry. She wanted to help them. She wanted to do everything to help them, but how? Their only way to help them was to kill the monster that put the curse on them.“Lilia! I told you to stop acting so pathetic!” A man came out of the house where the woman came from and ran towards her. He glared

Kane and Arisa prepared themselves as soon as they entered the forest. Arisa drew her sword while Kane prepared his dagger. Viktor kept watching while holding his phone—ready to call Gavin just in case something unexpected would happen. He knew that the curse monster was one of the worst opponents for his disciples because they both needed a contact in battle, but he still accepted the request. It would be a part of their learning and that experience would help them grow stronger. After just a few steps, a loud growl was heard and a tall creature that resembled a shadow hovered towards them. A monster with no face and no exact shape. For a melee fighter like him, a cursed monster was something that he should always watch out for. He could die in just one wrong move, but he would not let that happen.A monster who caused a lot of death did not deserve to be feared. No matter how strong it was, it could still be killed. He would be the one to kill it.However, before he could even move

The party composed of Gavin, Mila, Cyrus, and Arisa started fighting with the curse monster. They let Kane stay beside Viktor to just watch them for a while and recover his mana. He had been recklessly spending his mana earlier and he did not even notice what he was doing.Just because he had a monstrous pool did not mean that he could be reckless. If Gavin had been late in taking him away, he would either died from the monster’s curse or from devouring. It was Cyrus who led the attack with his ax followed by Arisa. Gavin was the one who was constantly distracting the monster while Mila was carefully supporting the three with her water magic. Even though their attacks were synchronized, just like how Kane did, they could not even manage to damage it.Kane could still feel his frustration while watching the party fight. They needed to think of a way to kill that monster. He could not even tell how many people died while they were fighting that monster. How many more deaths would it nee

“I am going to enroll you in school today, are you excited?” An old man told him with a mischievous grin.He felt himself nod his head then a wide grin crept out on his face. When did he ever smile that way? Who was that old man that could make him smile that way?“It seemed that you really are excited today, Kane. Do you want to make new friends?” the old man asked. He shook his head and with a faint smile, he looked at the old man. “Do I need to make new friends, Grandpa?”Grandpa? Did he just call the old man his grandpa? He looked at the man carefully and he noticed how much he resembled him. Not his current face which was morphed, but the old Kane’s face. It would not be an exaggeration even if they tell him that he was the spitting image of his grandfather.“Of course, you should!” The old man chuckled. “Kane, no matter how strong and smart you are, you will still need people by your side. “Dio. . .”The voice that he knew so much called out to him. They stopped at the corner of the garden then the he pointed at the budding flower.“Look at how small it is, mother!” He was delighted to show it to her and he was happier when her mother tousled his hair.“It’s a beautiful budding flower, just like Dio.” His mother gave him a gentle smile. His brows furrowed in curiosity. “Like me?”His mother nodded. “Just like Dio, this flower will grow to be amazing.”“Will I be someone amazing when I grow up, Mother?”“Of course. Dio was born to be someone strong and amazing, after all.” His mother gently touched his cheek. “Will you promise me that you’ll be someone whom the weak can depend on?”He smiled cheerfully. “Of course, Mother. “Uhmm.” The lady fidgeted before she took the courage to hold the hem of Dio’s shirt. “Can I at least know your name? I am Cassandra, the youngest daughter of Duke Riva.”The sun was already up and they were nearing the entrance where the gates were located. Cassandra wanted to know the name of her savior before they depart. She wanted to make sure that she would be able to repay him if ever they would meet again.“My name is Dio, my lady.” Dio looked towards the direction of the western gates where knights were coming back and forth. “Perhaps, did you run away from your knights?”Cassandra blushed as she looked down in embarrassment. “Will you keep it a secret?”Dio nodded. “I guess this is where we depart.” He turned towards the gate to Arnea and started walking but he stopped when Cassandra tugged on his shirt.“T-thank you for saving and protecting me.”Dio looked back and stared at her for a while. “You are quite timid for a noble.”“Do you need a reward? I could arrange for it.”

After the topic of his light-colored hair, an awkward silence ensued between the two of them as they walked towards the entrance not knowing that a disaster was waiting to fall upon them. Unfortunately, even though the lady basilisk let them go; another one was waiting right around corner. Without making a noise, the smaller basilisk which happened to be the younger brother of the lady basilisk that guarded the mountain bit Dio on his shoulder.“Argh!” Dio groaned in pain when he failed to dodge the surprise attack. He immediately pulled her to the other side to evade the serpent-like beast.Dio held his bleeding shoulder and the lady’s hand trembled in fear as she panicked not knowing what to do. Dio gritted his teeth, the pain coming from the clash between the basilisk’s venom and his healing abilities made him feel wobbly.“W-what should I do?” The lady exclaimed as she tried to wipe Dio’s blood as they ran.“Calm down,” Dio said in a hushed voice as he pulled her to hide behind a

After jumping off the tree, Dio followed the direction of the voice until she saw a lady who seemed to be the same age as him. She was slowly dragging herself backwards as the basilisk in front of her slowly moved forward.“Help me… Help me… Help me…” The girl continued to mumble.Dio stared at the girl who was no more less than a noble. Her ripped dress looked like something that was used to be on display at the capital’s boutiques, her fair white skin which was touched with shallow cuts probably caused by the branches when she ran, and her red hair with a gray hue signified that she was indeed a noble lady.He shook his head when she saw how the lady’s body trembled in fear but still managed to contain it in front of an S-class beast before he stepped out to show himself.“Excuse me,” he said to catch the attention of the lady as well as the basilisk. The lady probably noticed him since his voice was loud enough to resonate in the area. Her eyes grew wide as she lifted her hands to

    Chapter 126: Shall I?

It took Dio a few more days to collect himself. Knowing fully well that he wouldn’t die easily unless he commit suicide, he decided to just continue what he had been doing-- walking without moving forward. Besides, it wasn’t that bad to comply with his grandfather’s last request: live on.Dio found himself staring at his grandfather’s grave once again. This time, he was neat-looking and well prepped. Unlike the past days when his body hasn’t been washed and covered with sweat, dirt and tears.“Should I go on an adventure?” He stood up and put his hands on his pocket. It was more of a question for himself than to Archie. Dio lost motivation to continue living but he remembered his grandfather’s words.“I need to get moving, Gramps. Please rest in peace.” He bowed in a ninety-degree posture before leaving. As he turned his back on his grave, he felt a pang in his chest. Just the mere thought of leaving the place where he spent his days with his grandfather tore his heart into pieces. He

    Chapter 125: Existence

Dio opened his eyes and he saw the dark sky above him. He looked around and realized that he was still at the alley where the boys left him. He touched his side and felt disappointed when he felt the dried blood but the stab wound was completely healed. His restoration ability was something that he inherited from his mother. It would be hard to kill him unless his heart or brain was crushed or he suffered from too much blood loss that his restoration wouldn’t be able to keep up. Though they can heal and regenerate, they could still feel the pain.“What a lousy bunch. They couldn’t even do a good job of killing me,” he mumbled as he stood up. His stomach grumbled when he smelled the aroma of grilled meat just right outside the alley. He sighed before moving his feet and walked towards the store.“2 chicken skewers, please.” He took out 4 copper coins from his space ring and gave it to the vendor. The vendor gave him his order and he went on his way. Once again, he let his feet walk aim

    Chapter 124: No More Meaning

Dio threw the shovel to the side after he finished burying his grandfather’s remains. He sat on the ground with his legs crossed as he stared at his grandfather’s tomb. He played with the ring on his finger, the last thing that his grandfather gave him, as he sighed repeatedly.“Heir apparent.” He sighed after reading the letters carved into the ring. If it was the reason why his grandfather wanted him to live on, then it would be useless. He threw everything away that day and nothing was left for him to live for.He poured mana onto the ring and a magic circle appeared in front of him. He already expected that it would be a space ring, yet his lips curved upwards when he realized that he was right. He peeked at the contents of the dimension storage and he shook his head in disbelief. In the end, his grandfather prepared everything for him to live a good life. It was obvious with the stack of gold and jewelries that he found inside as well as the amount of high-quality potions that he

    Chapter 124: Unwelcomed

While Dio was on an adventure with Matt, Archie was preparing something. He was putting the gold bars he collected for more than eight years to a spatial bag. Then he moved to the medicine cabinet and moved the highest quality magic and health potions as well. After putting a couple more items necessary for survival he then entered his room and opened a hidden door under his bed. He opened a chest full of magic crystals and lastly, he took a twin dagger hidden in the chest and moved them all to the bag. He opened his space ring and put the bag in there with a sigh.“This should be enough,” he mumbled as he put the ring on his pinky finger. He went back to the store when he heard a sudden knock.“I hope you’re ready.”“I’ve been waiting for you.” Archie let out a dark smile.“Dio!” Matt called out to the kid who was suddenly attack by a canis. They were just a few meters away from the heart of the forest when a pack of canis attacked them.Matt kicked a small canis who stood on his way
