Erin looked at the clock and sighed. She still had two hours until they were dismissed. Her mind was already on AC and she just wanted the time to pass so that she could go there and visit Kane.
“Have you heard the news?” Xander sat beside her. It was their last class and it happened to be a joint class with Erin’s class.
“News about? If it was something unnecessary, you don’t have to share it with me.” Erin docked her head on the table.
“It’s about AC. I heard that they have a valuable test subject in their research department and that the subject had been assassinated last night.” Xander pulled his lollipop out of his mouth before he faced Erin. “Don’t you think it was a waste? That was a valuable test subject that would help deepen AC’s understanding of awakeners, but now it’s dead.”
Erin looked at Xander with wide-open eyes. “What did you say?”

The sun was about to rise when the plane landed. Kane took his bag and went out of the plane with an expectant heart. He knew that he was still two hours away from his destination but he was already in the capital city of the southwest region.“Mr. Kane Silva?” A man in a suit was holding a cardboard with his new name on it. “I am Clay Ronaldo and I was the one sent by Mr. Romero to bring you to your apartment.”Kane nodded his head and followed him. He held the strap of his bag tighter as he entered the car. The moment that the car stopped, he was sure that his life would have a great turn.Kane Silva.Mr. Romero told him that he would pose as his nephew who lived abroad. He would live in an apartment owned by him and there he would start his training.B-Class. He just had to tell them that he was a B-Class awakener so that not much attention would be given to him.The old man made sure to provide him the documents t
“Are you ready to shop for today, Kane?” Clay asked as he started driving the car. They were headed to the capital city to buy some of his daily necessities since he had nothing except for the bag that contains his important documents and wallet. He only got 50,000 Php as an advance payment from Mr. Romero and he would be taking the rent from his monthly wage. Would that be enough? Since he forgot the value of money, he was not sure if what he had would even last him a week. However, Mr. Romero messaged him and told him that he could apply as a hunter there to get an additional income.“You’re still a student, right?” Clay asked him. “Are you thinking of enrolling in a university here? Though you could have just asked your uncle to enroll you in the best university that is located there.”“Do I have to? Since it was already the middle of the semester, I still have a few months to think about whether I’d resum
“Excuse me, can I sit here?” The woman smiled when she asked the man who saved her using a sweet and polite tone. The man seemed familiar and she had the feeling that it was the same man who rescued her last night when she was almost kidnapped.“No can do,” Kane blurted without even looking at her. “You already have a spot so please just stay there and let us eat peacefully.”Clay almost choked when he heard Kane’s reply. Just what the heck was wrong with that man? He saved her but now he was being totally rude toward her!He looked at the woman expecting her to have a hurt or offended expression but the woman just smiled and sat on the seat beside Kane. Did she not hear what he said or did she just choose to ignore him?“Thank you.”Kane did not even try to hide it when he rolled his eyes. He continued eating while ignoring the woman while the woman ate while glancing at him from time to time.<
Kane woke up early and went for a jog. Fortunately, there were parks near him where he could go jogging even when he was in the countryside. He thought that living in the countryside would mean that he would live somewhere near the sea or near the farms. He was actually relieved that the place where Mr. Romero sent him was a civilized one.He took his phone and plugged his earphone before he started jogging. The first reason was to keep him from being bored and the second reason was to block the noise around him. He savored the wind blowing past him as he ran. That was the peace that he had been looking for. Though he could not remember, Kane seemed to be yearning for that kind of serenity. Even just for a day, he planned to set aside everything and just let himself do the things he wanted to do. He was sure that after that day, he would be busy training his ability and suppressing the monster within him.As the sun started rising, Kane tried to make his senses
After that talk, Kane messaged Mr. Romero and asked if he had details on people who were awakened with polymorphic abilities. He received the message the next morning so he asked Clay to give him a bit of time before they go to the hunter’s guild. He scanned the information that Mr. Romero sent him and grinned. He was not sure about the extent of his abilities and he wanted to try the process that was started in the documents. If he succeeded, then he might provide the researchers with additional information about his S-Class ability. He read the instructions once more before he went to his room and locked himself inside. He recalled what he just read and started thinking about the parts of his face that he wanted to change. First, the color of his hair. Then, his eye shape and color. Lastly, his complexion. He wanted his white skin to be a little tanner since it did not suit the place. He took a deep breath as he visualized his mana channels within
Kane patiently waited in line while quietly observing around. He noticed that most of the people having their evaluation seemed to be young. He thought that maybe the region valued the experience so many youths would go to the hunter’s guild to gain experience in hunting in the lower-ranked dungeons.“You seemed younger than me. High school students are not allowed to enter dungeons, even here.” The man who stood in front of him, who seemed to be in his early thirties, asked Kane.“But I’m no longer a high school student,” Kane muttered as he tried to ignore the man who seemed to be looking down on him. He was tall for his age so why did that person mistake him for a high school student?“Did you stop studying? The young ones should really stop acting recklessly. How could you people abandon your education and jump off to dungeons that could not even guarantee your safety?” The man shook his head in disappointment.
While Kane was waiting, he noticed that Clay had been typing on his phone with a serious expression. He looked at the man and patted his shoulder.“If you have work to do, you can go now. I will wait here for my ID then I’ll try to familiarize myself with the place.”“Are you sure you’ll be fine? I’ll come to pick you up later after I finish what I have to do,” Clay insisted but Kane shook his head.“There’s no need for that. I can go home on my own.” Kane smirked. “I just need to take the bus and get off on Maple St. After that, I can walk my way to the apartment.”“It seemed like you’ll be fine even without me.” Clay gave in. “But if you need me don’t hesitate to call me, okay?”“Sure thing.”Clay walked out of the building and Kane just covered his head with his hood. He did not want the attention that was on him so it w
Clay went to his apartment the next day and dragged him out. He informed him about the rookie training but the latter just became more eager when he heard about it.“Why do I need to come out of my apartment when I need to prepare for the rookie training?” Kane asked as he unwillingly followed Clay and entered his car.“It’s because you need to know about this before you leave for the rookie training. You still need to train to get used to your ability right?” Clay started the engine of the car and they took off.He started explaining to Kane about the place where they were going. “It was a place that your uncle prepared for the hunters contracted by the branch of AC here in the southwest region. Since there was no one using the place, that would be your secret training place. If you want to be prepared for the training, you should at least train your ability, right?”Kane kept his silence. Though he did not want
